You uncs need to learn peak zoomer, or you'll yap with no rizz fr. To slay this class and not burn down the kitchen, make sure to avoid being mid and people will say you ate.

(Basically all of these come from AAVE, African American vernacular english, my favorite part is how versatile these terms can be, you can mold them for most situations. We'll cover the most popular slang words, to the most niche references.)

Unc

pronounced "unkh"

Origin: African American Vernacular English, especially through the rap scene, throughout the 2000s and 2010s. Gained the most popularity in the 2020s outside of AAVE. (this will be a common occurrence). A shortening of the word 'uncle'.

Most commonly used as a noun, but can be often used as an adjective.

As a noun, it means an old or dated person.
As an adjective, it means old or dated, or relating to old people.
Here are some examples:

"Everyone on this site is an unc." translates to "Everyone on this site is old."

"This is unc behavior" translates to "This is something an old person would do."

Pretty simple, for now.

If I refuse to learn these terms for long enough, eventually dumbass right wingers will incessantly repeat them in the wrong contexts to the point that they become meaningless and I won't need to know what they meant originally.

Mid

Pronounced normally

Origin: First used to describe low to mid quality weed.

Most commonly used as an adjective, especially as an insult.

Used to negatively describe something as average or mediocre. One thing to point out for all Gen Z slang is that they’re easily variable, and it’s most commonly seen here. You can combine “mid” with any other proper noun to imply that it’s mediocre.

Here are some examples:

Baudmid
Mega Mid
Demid Slayer
Talking Mid
Boccmid the Rock
Star Wars: The Phantom Midace

Get creative with this if you want to. If you don’t like all this negativity, the next word will be much different!

This is all the Gen Z slang I know and care to know.

Let me try to translate this:

“Who are you attracted to? That’s embarrassing. Do you love Eorzea? They’re not good. All of Eorzea’s friends bark with no bite, and they exert an aura of nonsense. You have to be lying to believe in Eorzea. The greatest in Eorzea summon others to do the dirty work. Your friends are rarely successful, which is very suspicious. The so-called “greatest”, your closest allies, seem to be failing. If you truly think they’re great, why don’t you show off the power that saved you at Carteneau? They will not abandon you, so long as you suck up to them. Your allies are little more than useless. Mediocre- every one of them is mediocre. If you listen to me, you’ll see how the delusions of Eorzea are clearly shown. Your allies don’t ignore you, which makes this feel strange. Why do they support these fake fighters? What causes men to support even these fake idols and idolize them to a massive degree? The answer is: your allies are obscure! For the world of man to succeed, man must drag the world. To this end, man will struggle through all their enemies to serve and insult. And when the losers tremble in despair, only the winners will understand the true goal. Knowing this, a single feeling is shown to the so-called hero- that of major disgust. It is a path that is desperate and losing. Only an elite man can steer the course of civilization. And in this land of delusions, lies become facts- it’s true! Fight me, champion of Eorzea! Your loss shall serve as proof that I succeed. It is only right that I shall take everything you have. For nobody here has the skills to stop me- ever!”

@Baudshaw, in all seriousness, I appreciate what you’re doing here. I always find it interesting to see what directions language goes with the passage of time.

What about Skibidi Toilet Ohio?
I'm given to understand that the whole Skibidi Toilet thing is more of a Gen Alpha thing, which makes sense since "kids in middle school" feels like its target audience.

(I say this after having given this thread a skibidi tag as a goof. I'd imagine there are some younger Zoomers into the toiletman vids as well, though)

Skibidi is used by Gen Z “ironically”. The thing is, the line between being ironic and being serious has become blurred. Eventually, irony won’t even exist as we know it.

This is a far deeper change in language, which I should go more in detail soon.

I feel like a bunch of streamers that I watch started using "riz" overnight and I had no idea what it meant until my SO (who is a decade my junior) explained to me that it's just short for "charisma".

"In the weird mountain air, the glorious pines sway. Glory to the ancient pines! The crazy icon sings charming songs into the night. Cursed and trapped, the humans show off, unable to come to terms with reality. [The equivalent of scat singing]. And somewhere, beyond this new edge, a baby sparrow wakes and is thrown into this strange dawn."

This is actually quite fun, I like doing these translations

Okay, what's "sigma"? I feel like I never see this one with enough context to really parse anything from it.

Too be fair, that one's not exactly a new thing.

And "sigma" is a weird outgrowth from the whole manosphere "alpha male" "beta male" thing from people who ALMOST realized how that whole idea was BS and just decided they personally were actually a secret third thing that's just sort of above it all.

Also he is behind the maverick outbreak.

Today's youth don't even know that Sigma was once the leader of the Maverick Hunters

Lots of old people slang was used for decades before dying out. So while some of gen Z slang could slip through the cracks and be forgotten, we don't know which ones.

Yeah I feel like trying to predict language is just as much of a fool's game as trying to predict the stock market or any other large-scale social constructs.
