Games you want to play, that don't exist

A JRPG in the vein of PS2 era mechanics / style and none of the protagonists are under the age of 25.

(One of the big reasons I liked SMT: Strange Journey is because everyone in the game is an adult, a demon, or both.)
Yeah, I can get behind this, too. I don't hate those games, but it sure would be nice to play something that is mature (like a lot of WRPGs) but in a JRPG context.

It sure does get old when the "all washed up ex-adventurer" character shows up and they're like... 22.

I'll take modern ports of FFT, FFTA, and FFTA2 onto modern platforms please. Especially the later two. It wouldn't really be hard or a lot of work even. If they wanted, they could upgrade a bunch of the background graphics and sprites, but I just want to play those games again without fiddling with emulators or digging out decaying platforms from their tombs in my closet.

Short of that, I'll also take just more Ivalice content (FF14 you don't count, go away) because that's honestly the best FF setting there is and it's criminally underused. Imagine a modern game that looks like FF15, but plays like FF12 and is set in Ivalice. Can you imagine? Also, this time if they try a game with the kind of scope FF12 had, at least have the fuckin' dignity and smarts to make at least one playable party member a moogle.
How 'bout all them Xenogears sequels/prequels/interquels that never got made
I thought they wrote themselves into a corner with Xenogears, and Xenosaga was an extended reinterpretation, or something. Where the ideas from the prequels and sequels also was included, in some way?
The problem was that Xenogears was supposed to be part 5 in a series, but Square owns it, so when Namco let them make Xenosaga they had to not directly connect it, then Xenosaga was supposed to be seven games. But then episodes I and II of Xenosaga were intended to be just the first game, and episode III was a hyper-compressed version of *the other six*.
The idea of Xenogears being part 5 in a series is mostly just some Star Wars level of nonsense where George Lucas posthumously declared Star Wars as "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" and "I swear all along I had nine parts all written out ahead of time!" The four parts leading up to Xenogears are mostly focused on different incarnations of Abel, but the stories you could tell in each one are extremely limited, in a way that I don't believe they were ever actually planned out beyond just being setting flavor for Xenogears in the way that we experienced within that game. Part 2 is the story of humanity first setting up after the crash of the Eldrige, and I struggle to imagine how you could tell a protracted, involved, deep story that merits a full game in a setting where there's no real civilization or people yet, and it ends with the protagonists dying tragically. Same with Part 3 and the Zeboim Civ, where Kim is just a doctor guy who works cloistered in a lab the whole time as society collapses around him. Part 4 you could tell a pretty conventional RPG story about since the principle characters all have arcs and participate in a large, protracted, world war. But we already know the major plot beats of that story, and it again would be a bummer to sit through 60 hours of game to just end up with a bad ending. And after Xenosaga was basically the story of Part 1, I basically lost faith in the ability to turn that rough outline we saw in the Xenogears Perfect Works so long ago into something interesting. The only real thing I'd be interested in would be a direct sequel to Xenogears, where the same cast from Xenogears have to both rebuild their world and maybe attempt to rejoin the interstellar community or what's left of it and fend off whatever baddies Deus was originally designed to fight.

But what I'd mostly just settle for is a Xenogears remaster/mild remake a la Star Ocean 1 where they clean up the sprites and backgrounds, throw in a bunch of new voice acting, and maybe flesh out the 2nd disk content a little better. Not necessarily to completely wipe out the char interviews (because you NEED those to maintain the spirit of the original game) but to reintegrate some exploration and world events back into the game that were clearly planned but abbreviated.

A Final Fantasy VIII prequel starring Laguna, Kiros and Ward. I first realized that I wanted this when FFX-2 was announced, and imagined it in that style, but the modern FFXV or FFVII Remake style would suit it even better.
FF8 remake would be great. You could even position the whole thing as Squall fighting to remember who he was and to get home from Time Compressed Space. No real interest in a prequel though. Or at least, a full game dedicated to it. The time-skips in FF8 works well because of how integrated they are into the story of the present and the timey wimey stuff that Squall does to basically ensure his current present happens. Separating the two into distinct games kinda loses the point, but that's just me.

If that includes non-console computers and you are talking about the PS1 version of FFT then sign me up. (And I wouldn't mind if they took some of the rough edges off of those games in the process.)

The PSP version of FFT was great. The only real problem with that version of the game IIRC was the emulation hiccups it experienced that would slow the game down to a crawl during elaborate spells. Which basically went away if you played the game on a machine with a little more horsepower like on an emulator or on the Vita. I have very little doubt that a modern port wouldn't experience those problems.

I would love to have seen the last five episodes of Sting's Dept Heaven series and what crazy game play concepts they would have included. Even though the last game in the series, Gungnir, was the most traditional there were still elements in it that made it unique.

Also a new Ogre Battle game would be nice.

A lack of controller support and a few slight annoyances with the touch UI aside, the current mobile version of Final Fantasy Tactics is pretty good. It's basically the PSP game with visual tweaks and the option to rotate the camera in ways it was never meant to be rotated.

Like, it's good enough that I'm surprised it hasn't been ported to modern consoles.

Ninja'd! Yep, the PSP version can have that slowdown removed.

There's also a patch to go the other direction - putting the PSP script into the PSX game, if you're so inclined.

Vagrant Story 2
Very much yes.

While I'm dreaming, how about a new Parasite Eve in the style of the first game?

Re-skin/re-imagining of the 2007 game Overlord where you replace the Overlord with Gru and the gobbos with minions. I'll take my million dollar cheque now.

I'm replaying FFTA on one of my emulator handhelds now. It really wouldn't take much to put it on Steam, and boy, is it an addictive time-suck. I'd love them adding a feature where you get more clues of how to successfully complete dispatch missions after you fail once, though.

I've wanted a "Suikoden 6" that takes place long after the events of 3 (in the same world) for, um, ever.

I want more Link to the Past-style Zelda games. Link Between Worlds was beautiful. I want more of that.

Another Kirby game with the easy/casual couch co-op of Star Allies, too.

I'm not sure if this is a knock on High on Life being a similar premise and cringey as hell, or the bottom falling out on the Intellivision gang.

Secret of Evermore 2. Forspoken is probably as close as we'll ever get to that, and it's looking shaky...

A sci-fi game that's all about mundane sci-fi life.

No space shootouts, no fight or flight against alien monsters. You live on a space station and your job is moving inventory to where it needs to go on the station and occasionally transporting cargo to other planets. Your starship is for moving boxes to other planets, not playing Space Invaders. If you use a mecha at all it's basically a forklift with legs.

The majority of the residents you meet are various species of alien and different kinds of robots. You choose your species (or model in case of robots) and preferred pronouns at the start of the game. There are options, you don't have to look human or even humanoid.

You can get to know the residents and those of other planets as you do your job, and partake in various tasks around the station and on planets you visit. Your transporting job is on commission so you have room to mess around. Work out at the gym or play games at the club or get drunk or go racing, whatever.

You can buy amenities for decorating your quarters, clothes, mods (both physical and mechanical), and food and you can give gifts to other residents. You can also upgrade to a larger quarters if you wish. Or a better starship. Or a more efficient cargo mecha.

That sounds like Escape Velocity if you don't do any of the plot missions or pick fights or encounter space pirates.

Oh hey, I guess this is sorta related?

I mean, it's a game I dreamed of making, but if someone else made it, I think I'd probably still want to play it. And either way, it doesn't exist.

Just remembered this thread exists, and I just posted this yesterday, which seems like it would fit...

(And yeah, it skews a little more towards Mega Man, but look at where I posted it. It really does apply across the entire Capcom board, though.)

Hmm, I wonder if this is worth its own thread for discussion, or if that would be too self-serving?

It doesn't have the other stuff you mention, but for a dose of "mundane sci-fi" there's Hardspace: Shipbreaker, where you're a construction grunt working on breaking down spaceships for salvage.

I want a Pokemon game, that has no form of combat. Some form of turn-based puzzle game would be nice, where you maybe place Pokemon, and make them evolve, at the right time, or something? Dunno, a puzzle game that is based on the differences between Pokemon, instead of one where Pokemon are just arbitrarily added.

The other game I would like to play would be something, that is focused on collecting them all, with no fighting involved. Maybe just with a focus on the first gen mons. Like, instead of fighting, you befriend the different mons by learning about them, and solving puzzles (like finding some food that Bulbasaur wants, or whatever), making them want to come along with you. Basically an adventure game, but without moon logic, and with puzzles that take into account how the different pokemon are. And maybe use the abilities of Pokemon you already have into abilities you could use.

Maybe also just a "Tales of Kanto" thing, where you play through little stories of inhabitants of the world. Dunno, sounds like something for an Anime instead of a game.

Edit: Thanks for making me aware that I already created the thread, Peklo. Dumb brain.
