Football 2025-2026

Starting to get texts from the friends I do fantasy leagues with! I need to remind myself what trades have happened in the offseason...

Lions already facing injury issues in the fucking preseason. Really hope this season isn't like the last in that regard, it was super frustrating.

While it was lovely to watch a whole Lions game without a season ending injury for once, we looked completely unprepared on both sides of the ball. Play calling sucked on both sides of the ball, offensive line looked shaky at best (and that's being charitable - Goff had almost zero time to look downfield pretty much all game), pass defense was getting cooked all day, our run game was kinda meh. Only decent outing was the rush defense which was great. Other than that, it was a rough start to the season (and against the fucking Packers, no less. As much as I hate the rest of the NFC North, that team winning against anyone sucks, especially the Lions. Ugh).

Yeah, that Bills/Ravens game was one for the books. (I don't have anything I can watch sportsball on, so I just look up the highlights on YT.)

I'm not expecting much from my beloved Saints this season. I'll be pleasantly surprised if they have more wins than losses.

Bears look godawful. Packers, meanwhile, probably take the division if we don't win out our divisional games. Sheesh

I know the Steeler's defense was mostly off of Temu by halftime but our QB was Sam Darnold so I'd say the Seahawks did pretty OK today.

Not sure if JJ is going to have a job much longer if Carson Wentz pulls anything like that sunday Vikes game off again.

Even got to see the third string quarterback play because, why not? He’s not going to give up 40 points.

This is hilarious in hindsight. I was clearly panicked from our week one shitshow. We take the division easily this year barring injuries.

The Packers lost to the Browns and tied the Cowboys. Lol. Lmao

I do not understand and cannot predict football. What the hell is going on this year lmao

Sports in general are less predictable than people like to pretend because human beings are unpredictable.

See also economics.

The other thing is that long term trends are stronger than short term, week-to-week results. Also worth noting the Eagles are literally two years removed from a complete collapse, which was covered up by them replacing both coordinators. Kellen Moore went off to Nawlins, so it's possible they're regressing. (I happen to believe they'll figure it out enough to be a good playoff team, but probably not reach the same highs.)

I'd say sports are entirely very predictable, otherwise Vegas wouldn't make as much money as they do on predicting outcomes.

Just like Dark Medusa said, the macro picture is way more clear than the micro. Also, the NFL/football specifically is a sport where one of the central appeals is how chaotic it is. You watch 22 people try to achieve an objective while also smashing into each other like human wrecking balls. It's like trying to predict how the break is going to play out in a game of pool. There's just too many variables to keep track of in real time.

NFC West is real competitive and then you have the Arizona Cardinals. Something about the longest tenured team in the NFL also being one of its most consistently disappointing while also being moved from Chicago to St. Louis to the surface of the sun just encapsulates a certain something about sports.

Hey, they hit the World Series a couple times during my childhood in STL I think. (And that’s the only thing I remember about sports from when I was a kid.)
