Football 2022: Time Makes Fools of Us All

The NFLPA fired the "unaffiliated" neurotrauma consultant. Hard to see that in any way but cynically. The only accountability here is with someone "unaffiliated" but this consultant was far from the only person who looked over Tua and could/should have said no at any point along the four day process between his first and second concussions. If this guy lost his job over this, literally everyone involved should lose theirs as well. But the NFL doesn't care because they're not given financial reasons to care.

I went back and looked a few times, and he definitely crosses the line of scrimmage when he finally makes the pass by a toe lol. Not that it matters with a blowout like that.

His back leg (or front leg, he kind of twists around) was still behind the line. Assuming the line on the screen is accurate.

Yeah, you have the rule backwards, WH, as long as any part of you is behind the line when you throw it, it's legal.

Almost every rule in the NFL exists to facilitate big 'ol flashy touchdowns.
Not that I don't believe you, but the first thing that comes to mind is how you need both feet inbounds in the pros, but you'd greatly up the scoring and flashy plays if you only needed one like in college.

Very thankful that the NFL risks the health of its players with 4 days between games so that we can watch 2 teams with aging, declining QBs that likely won't be sniffing the playoffs this year so they can play an absolutely wretched game of football.

Also thinking of all the talking heads from 2019 to 2021 who insisted that Pete Carroll was holding Russell Wilson back and wasting his prime.

What I don't get is why they don't schedule Thursday games to coincide with when teams get bye-weeks.

Like, seriously. Let a team have a bye week. Then do the Thursday game after that.

There, it's not that hard, NFL. I just saved you guys a bunch of headaches/lawsuits and made you a bunch of money. They could absolutely work this into the schedule if they wanted. They just don't actually give a shit about player safety. They're old money fuckheads who are slaves to inertia.

Worst case scenario, you give each team two bye-weeks, so that way teams that have Thursday games very early or very late in the season don't feel cheated when their single bye-week is on week-2 or week-16. Which again, feels like a win-win scenario. You lengthen the NFL season by a week - therefore keeping all eyes on your product even longer - without losing a single fucking thing.

God I hate the NFL so much. It's the worst excesses of capitalism all rolled into one package.

Is this season proving them wrong, or proving them right?

That fact that Russ is currently cooked does not mean that Carroll should not have previously let Russ cook.

There were times in the last few years of Wilson's time here when Carroll "let him cook" and the results were inconsistent.

Wilson played his best when he was more capable to scramble and extend plays. As he got older he couldn't move like that anymore, and instead of choosing to adapt and focusing on being able to get rid of the ball quicker, he stubbornly stuck to his old style.

It's why him publicly blaming his offensive line was such a garbage move- many Seahawk fans could tell you that even if it wasn't inaccurate, he himself caused so many of his own sacks by holding onto the ball too long, even when he did get decent protection. He wasn't taking responsibility for his own limitations.

Fortunately Russ does not strike me as an Aaron Rodgers type and will likely gain some humility from flaming out in Denver.

I should emphasize that I don't really expect Wilson to continue playing this poorly. I doubt he's ever what he was during his best days, and his speed won't be coming back, but this isn't ideal circumstances for him. There's injuries on his team, his coach is in his first year, and it's his first year on the team. I doubt he'll ever be worth his contract, but I also doubt he's this bad for the rest of the year. I think that if Wilson had stayed in Seattle, he'd be better than this.

I think something that needs to emphasized- being a fan of the Seahawks, the last several years we've seen a whole lot of garbage about how the team should have won 3 or 4 super bowls by now and only failed to do so because Russell Wilson was supposed to be the next incarnation of Tom Brady and the only reason it didn't happen was because Carroll was too stubborn about running the football to pass more often. It was stupid, and I hated it because it framed the run we had with Wilson, which was very good and largely fun to watch, as a complete disappointment worthy of shame. I'm glad to see that narrative die.

Better than the 2013 Seahawks game against Tennessee. Hauschka got hurt, so punter Jon Ryan had to kick the FG. The snap was bad, so holder Chris Maragos tried to make something out of it. It ended up being returned for a Titans TD.

Fortunately we won the game and overall I think that season turned out okay for the Hawks.

Ah, flashing back to the Lions scrambling to find a new placekicker after safely relying on Jason Hanson for 20 years. Ndamukong Suh was attempting extra points at one time.

Wilson had 15 yards in the 2nd half and OT. 15!

God, if it wasn't for that defense being really good they would probably be winless right now.

Was fun watching the Bills and Chiefs go head to head again, truly two evenly matched teams. Luckily my Bills won this round, and it makes the likelihood that they'll win the next round, but I'm pretty sure the matchup that actually will matter between these two teams will happen in January.

I keep waiting for teams to sort themselves but this has been a weird season where there's no telling who's going to end up where.

I don’t know what is going on with the Vikings in the fourth quarter this year but this is just ridiculous. Longest 30 seconds of my life.

Well, it was nice to finally have a Vikings game that didn’t come literally down to the last minute. Would have been nicer if it didn’t happen because we got absolutely trounced but hey, maybe they are just resting up for having to play the pats in like two damn days.

Vikings decided to beat the NFL record for biggest comeback this week by coming back to squeak out a win after being down 33-0 at the half. I guess K C just wanted that record on the shelf.

We were hosting a xmas party for my in-laws and one of the uncles had been at the game courtesy of work. He understandably left at halftime and is not particularly looking forward to talking to his boss about it on Monday. Probably get no end of shit about it.
