Football 2022: Time Makes Fools of Us All

Why you would call a lateral at the end of regulation when you're tied is beyond me to begin with. I guess we will never understand Bill Belichick's galaxy brain.

My understanding is he did not call for it, it was a simple draw to run out the clock. But when the RB gained like 30 yards he decided to flip it to a receiver instead of going down and that receiver did what he did.

Just tuned into the Bills game and see an ambulance is on the field and CPR is being administered. Obviously no idea what happened yet other than that were was a collison but it's horrifying.

I had just turned it on myself. It was a completely unremarkable hit (which makes it even more scary to me), and he popped right back up then just collapsed.

Why the fuck do I watch this sport? Why haven't they cancelled the game?

Earlier this year (probably after Tua?) I told my friends who run my fantasy leagues I'm unlikely to join next year. I really enjoy the sport and playing fantasy with my friends is so much fun, but if logging into that website supports this I can't. I just can't.

As I'm typing this the Bills are packing up stuff on the sidelines so thankfully they seem to have had enough sense to cancel this.

That is the scariest thing I've ever seen watching pro sports. Good on McDermott and Taylor for putting their collective foot down and doing what the NFL wouldn't.

It was reported to be cardiac arrest. Obviously a really scary scene, but seems like it's only obliquely related to playing football.

fuck.

as a Bills fan... just fuck.

I just hope he retains as much of his quality of life as possible.

It certainly was what caused it, I believe Higgins's helmet hitting the left side of his chest is what did it.

I'm sure the hit could have triggered the arrest, but this isn't something that happens normally in football. It's not a common risk like a concussion is.

Even though the Lions community is generally seething at everything Seattle-related right now, that pales in comparison to our ever-burning passion to destroy the Packers and everything they love (I have a ton of respect for their history, being a publicly owned team, and putting the third-biggest city in the state of Wisconsin on the map, but in the sphere of harmless competition, I do get extra pumped for Lions-Packers). Much less frequent is a Lions team actually capable of doing that, but they've been overlapping a bit more often recently.

In any event, congrats to Seattle. The contingent of Lions fans like myself who are also MSU fans are thrilled seeing Kenneth Walker thriving, and I hope to see him barrel his way through the playoffs.

As for my Lions, it was refreshing having them in the hunt and seeing an 8-2 finish down the stretch to secure a winning record. Really hope they can continue to build on this (and hopefully not start in a 1-6 hole next year). Longtime Lions fans have gotten very wary of placing any emotional investment in ongoing upward trajectories or sustained success, but from the coaching to the management to the on-field performance, the team seems to be going the right way.

As I'm living in Detroit right now, seeing the Lions have a good season makes me happy. Also the whole rustbelt, awful for a long time team connection between the Bills and Lions.

On another note, wow, Hines taking it to the house on the opening kickoff sure was something!

I hope Mahomes's ankle is okay. I think this is the most balanced Chiefs team during Andy Reid's tenure and if Mahomes is close to 100% next I really think we should be able to get back to the Super Bowl.

I'm assuming the explanation is that Pacheco is rookie and the coaching staff has more faith in McKinnon to not fumble or try to do too much when they just need to run clock, but it almost seemed like the Chiefs were deliberately preventing Pacheco from getting to 100 yards rushing.

That was a frustrating Bills game to watch, even as an LSU fan. It's hard watching the Bengals with three backup linemen somehow have a field day with Burrow and Chase against a purportedly good defense, and the offensive line tank any chance of the Bills having a chance. I'm not sure where the Bills go from here - their draft picks haven't provided any new stars (although some solid role players at worst) and they're stuck in this second tier of the AFC right now. I do think that the Bengals are a bad matchup, and that they would have a chance against the Chiefs, but they gotta beat the best to be the best. Hope the Bengals seal the deal so I can be happy for my boys Burrow and Chase.

Just realized this is the first Superbowl since I started watching sports back in '06 where I really don't have a rooting interest. Weird.

My main involvement in the Superb Owl this year is that work is doing a Super Bowl Squares raffle thing. My ending digits are 0 for the Eagles and 7 for the Chiefs so I have a chance. They're doing a gift card based on the score at the end of each quarter so should be fun.

I mean, we'll probably watch it while I play Fire Emblem or something but since we have an antenna I feel less gross about giving the NFL ratings/money. Also I plan to have the Puppy Bowl on too.

The guy who usually hosts our yearly super bowl party fucked off and went fishing this weekend. Some of my friends still showed up to his house and let themselves in for the weekend but the vibe just isn’t there.

I invited my family to my house for a Super Bowl party and they all initially said they'd come and then cancelled last minute. Good thing I already got all the food.

The only two times we had legit Superbowl parties where there was actually a large number of people present were for 48 and 49 (for obvious reasons if you know where I live), but other than that there's just a few people in attendance. We always have homemade buffalo chicken dip though.

If the Chiefs weren't playing, I likely wouldn't be doing anything. I grew up about an hour from KC. My earliest football memory is watching the Chiefs fall apart in the 1993 AFC championship game. Last time the Chiefs were in the Super Bowl we did something at my parents house. The one before I was away at law school. I had hoped this would be the first time I hosted something at my new home.
