Football 2022: Time Makes Fools of Us All

Assuming the season even happens. If it does, I expect New England and Tampa Bay fans to be disappointed around the same time.

My friends and I just started our usual fantasy football group text, and the guy who runs it started by noting our money will be refunded if they season is cancelled. Also whomever's team hast he most Covid-positive players over the course of the season wins $5 because we're terrible people.

I can't believe its been 10 years since the Chiefs won the Super Bowl. I wonder if they can do it again after all this time.

Season begins tonight. Chiefs/Texans playing right now. This whole thing seems like a bad idea but maybe it takes football players dying for certain segments of the population to actually care about Covid.

My friend group's Final Fantasy Football started up too. But at my urging we're doing it differently this year, since none of us expect the season to be completed. And even if it is, it's kinda going to be inherently hectic/unfair when players/teams start dropping like flies.

So what we're doing this year is using fanduel to do weekly fantasy matchups. Where everyone gets a certain budget and can draft whoever each week. And whoever wins the week wins a small token winnings from whoever lost the worst that week. (We're giving each other Mexican Pizzas from Taco Bell to eulogize the soon to be extinct menu fave.) This way, we can still be engaged with fantasy, it'll receive minimal disruptions/not matter if the season is cancelled, and it's nbd if people forget to set lineups for a week unlike normal fantasy. Plus, it lets us do drafting on a more frequent basis, which is most of the fun of fantasy to begin with. I highly recommend it!

I kind of hate myself for watching right now, but I also love watching these Chiefs.

Edwards-Helaire looks pretty good and Mahommes remains great. Watching Deshaun Watson always makes me a little sad, because I am half convinced his coach/GM is trying to get him killed.

I thought football teams were supposed to have superbowl hangovers. These guys look unstoppable tbh.

Also, that whole game was freaking weird. I couldn't stop thinking about/staring at all the people in the stands. Same with the college games yesterday. It's gonna be fun to hear about how these became super spreader events like a month from now, and even more fun when nobody cares.

I moved to the only state in the central US that wasn’t showing the vikes and could not be bothered to find an illicit stream of it so I half watched the eagles play for a few minutes and then lost interest. I think I’ll sit this season out.

The Lions take a 17-point lead into the fourth quarter and a two-score lead into the last five minutes of the game, fall behind, then get into perfect position to make the game-winning play and just fail for no discernible reason. All while committing penalties on the regular, including a uniquely stupid one.

Thank you for the sense of normalcy in 2020, guys!

I think it is hilarious that they felt forced to change the name, but were so lacking in the ability to think that they could not come up with a new name.

Drew Magary made a point that it's just as likely that Dan Snyder did it this way because a lot of people would then continue to call them the [racial slur]s.

That was my assumption or they just picked something stupid on purpose to own the libs.

The whole situation to me feels like Dan Snyder was still spitefully holding onto the stance that he was never going to change the name until literally the day that it came out that they were changing it. So of course he had nothing lined up to replace it at that moment, and will stubbornly drag his feet as long as possible. Something happened behind closed doors that forced his hand to change his tune overnight. I assume the sexual harassment stuff hit the league offices before it did us, or something of that nature, and Goodell basically gave Snyder the ultimatum that he has to change the name, or he'll get Donald Sterling'd.

The Chiefs played what looked like a Super Bowl hangover game today. I spent most of the three quarters just wishing anybody on the team would look like they cared about what was going on. Honestly, they really only seemed to wake up when they realized that time was really running out. Mahommes still threw for 300 yards.

Well I certainly hope D.K. Metcalf learned a valuable lesson yesterday.
I'm very happy with how that all went down, since that single play at the goal line basically won me between $10 and $40 this week in my friend-fantasy league, depending on how MNF plays out.

I'm not trying to pick a fight with the Russell Wilson partisans around here, but Patrick Mahomes is the best football player on the planet.

You could definitely make an argument for either of them at this point. Seahawks/Chiefs Superbowl would be a helluva game, I'll tell you that.
