Final Fantasy Tactics ReWhatever Is A Real Thing

Wiegraf fight is still a pain in the ass.
I just got to this a few days back (on Tactician no less, because I'm a self-flagellating purist I guess), and had to back out completely because there was nothing I could do. Not with my Ramza's skillset at the time, anyway.

I finished the game on Tactician recently. I tried to avoid random battles...

Oh not me. Once I hit the wall with Wiegraf, I started grinding like a goddamn apothecary. It probably didn't help that it had been literal decades since I played through this, and therefore didn't remember enough to really optimize my build .

That, and I just really like grinding JP. I'm a JP junkie. I like making my little grid dudes do cool things.

Yeah, I'd forgotten the fight started with the 1:1 battle and got annihilated immediately as Ramza was an archer. Redid things, made it to the second stage and killed a couple demons but still got wiped out. Decided to back out to the map and go buy some chameleon robes and whatever bracelet blocks confusion and will try again this weekend.

Damn I'm impressed.

Same! I try to have all tavern quests cleared before advancing the story and so spend a lot of time wandering around. I like being able to select which stage I battle on, that's very nice. If that was in the original I don't remember it, but I thought it was all random.

I didn't even get past the 1:1 ! 😓

And yeah, if I remember right, the original had you wandering from spot to spot until a battle triggered, so getting to just pick a spot to fight is a great concession. Though I did find out that if you fight in one spot enough times, the game makes you move on to another spot and come back before you can fight at your preferred spot again.

I'm also liking the voicework more than I thought I would!

I don't hate it (and the new script) as much as I thought I would.

But I do have a couple of nitpicks:
1. Argath/Algus's voice just isn't quite punchable enough.
2. Changing the insulting version of Elmdor's nickname to the Silver Demon was a change for the worse.

Argath/Algus's voice just isn't quite punchable enough.
This is just a me thing, but I actually really liked his voice direction. Just snotty enough to nail the arrogant noble archetype, but also able to speak with enough conviction to be taken seriously as both a threat and a tragic figure, even if a lot of the tragedy is of his own making. This motherfucker is a true believer, twisted as those beliefs are.

A lot of my opinions are probably also colored by the fact that this is the first time I've done a serious playthough of this game with an updated translation (I tried with the PSP and iPhone versions way back when, but didn't get too far), and damn if it ain't like I'm just seeing this world for the first time.

Also finally beat that bastard castle, no thanks to Rapha's ass trying to belly flop onto the nearest sword the whole time. Like, DUDE YOUR BRAVERY AIN'T EVEN 40 WHAT ARE YOU DOING????

Okay, so you know that one random encounter you can get at Grogh Heights that's like 12 monks at once?

...

I fuckin' won it 😁

Granted most of that was just me abusing Arithmetiks to cover 'em in status effects, but still!

I recently came across this video of a couple of the English voice actors playing through a little bit of the game. It's a nice watch.

I also fought the Oops! All Monks battle recently. (Using Earth Clothes / Gaia Gear and Draw Out / Iaido was my winning strategy but it was a long, drawn-out fight.)

Anyone still playing this?

I was playing for 100% achievements and finally got all of them. I have 127 hours of playtime (but that probably could have been done in less time).

I beat it, I'm not going for 100% or anything for now but really, really enjoyed my time with it.

I dropped off of it, trying for 100%. I think I was one or two fights away from the end, based on my convo with my FFT superfan cousin, so I should probably just finish it.

I finished the final story battle near the beginning of November. I wasn't playing every day but it still took a while to get the 100%.

Do you remember what the last battle was that you completed?

Yes, that's in the endgame sequence. You're very nearly done.

I did a little more skill gathering and then completed a victory lap where I clobbered the final battles. I got a lot of play time (over 130 hours) out of the game but I think I'm done for now.

On a side note - Move+3 Ninjas are terrifying. I'm glad they're generally only ever on my side.

Also, if you want to see some interesting gameplay you could watch this series of videos for a "solo" Ramza playthrough (which is still currently in-progress):

True Doom Murderheads run single-class solo Ramza challenges. (I did one back in the day -- I was the first to win a run with a dummied Priest, which could equip anything at the relatively minor cost of having 0 C-Ev.)

A surprising number of jobs are winnable under those restrictions. Bard is not one of them.
