Well, here we are! I'm excited for this.

BTW, here is the bracket. If there are any match ups on the first round between the same participant's list and you DO mind them facing off in facing off in round one, let me know and I can change it!

Here is the bracket!

Oh, and I REALLY appreciate everyone and I mean EVERYONE including their artist. I don't think I specifically asked for that and it does make sense in the context of the dome's theme but it sure saves me time and effort (especially in games when sometimes there are more than one musical artist and I get confused who does what.

So, no more further ado!

Round 1

Match 1

We start with the tune Cracking! from the shooter game Rayforce. This opening salvo is from Tamayo Kawamoto, who did the entire Ray trilogy with her in-house band ZUNTATA. On the other side is an apropos match 1 choice: "First Steps" from Celeste. The soundtrack is by Lena Raine, who also did music for Minecraft, Guild Wars 2 and Chicory: A Colorful Tale.

The choices are from @pudik and @Issun, respectively.

Match 2

NEXT, we have a JRPG match up! Our next tune is "Valse di Fantastica" from Final Fantasy XV, a beautiful and rousing waltz piece as the name implies. Then we have "Beware the Forest's Mushrooms" from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Both are from from Yoko Shimamura, a legend whose name is going to show up a LOT in this competition as she has 69 (nice) credits alone for composition on wikipedia, not even counting "arrangements" and "other"

Choices by @Torzelbaum and @Issun

Oh shoot I didn't realize she did Chicory.

I'm also very confident that this dome is going to result in me going "wait, I didn't know X had a female composer" A LOT which is exciting as I'll learn some new good things.

"CRACKING!" for sure. RayForce is an incredibly presentationally driven game and the music plays as big a part in the proceedings as the rest.

Celeste takes her first steps to victory and Super Mario RPG and Final Fantasy are tied. First person to vote who hasn't yet breaks it.

@Beta Metroid @conchobhar @Regulus @Ixo who brought forth songs are all in good positions to break the tie!

Match 3

Next up its "Zangief's Theme" from Street Fighter II by Yoko Shimamura. Yoko did a lot of RPGs but she also did a lot of iconic fighting games and beat em ups too, like Final Fight. Then we have "Always on My Mind" from Silent Hill: Shattered Memories. Its sung by Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, a voice actress who's work includes dubbing Queen Diva from El Hazard.

Me and @Purple nominated these ones.

Match 4

Then from Zone of the Enders: 2nd Runner, we have "Beyond the Bounds". The music is by Maki Kirioka and the singing is by Maki Kimura. Then it's "Water World" from Donkey Kong Country 3. This one is by Eveline Novakovic, who was credited as E. Fisher in her earlier career in game music.

@Regulus and @Beta Metroid nominated these ones.

You probably know her best as the voice of Major Motoko Kusanagi from the Ghost in the Shell franchise (except for the very first movie).

"Beyond the Bounds". Even for a game as generally good as The 2nd Runner, that one single song manages to carry and justify all the drama and pathos it otherwise attempts.

What's Shenmue?

I'll break Match 2 in favour of "Beware the Forest's Mushrooms".

For the latest batch: "Always on My Mind" and "Beyond the Bounds". The Silent Hill track is really interesting, a mash-up of dark ambient and trip-hop… I've never listened to the post-Yamaoka albums but maybe I should give this a go.

I mean if we're citing random VA credits, the one to mention here is Nina Williams for Tekken. Got us a fighting game crossover battle, kinda. Also works with Red Shadow but nobody but me cares about Bushido Blade.

Anyway, wow, definitely a "no really listen all the way through there's some slow builds" set here and having done so...
