Feels so Good to Feel so Down - The Depressing Music Thunderdome Nomination thread

We've all been there before, you lose a loved one, your partner breaks up with you, your dog dies, maybe its just the fact that you've lived through way too much shit than anyone should ever be expected to... However it happens, we all know what it is like to be sad. And, when we are depressing, sad songs are there to make us feel something, anything again.

Embrace your inner emo kid, paint your nails black, and nominate of those sad, sad, sad songs.

Rules - There must be music. Words are optional, but if there are vocals they have to be sung. I love poetry as much as anyone, a nomination of a poem reading with a musical accompaniment will not qualify. I don't want to have to tell you what a depressing song is. I hope you know. So, I don't know how I'm going to police this. It's probably going to be on a case by case basis. I don't want to tell people what music hits them in those feels when they are already feeling them. That being said if you nominate Pharrell's 'Happy' it's not making it to the competition.

Nominate your four songs here with a link to a youtube, bandcamp, etc. Preferably something that does not require a clickthrough, but given the state of the world I can understand if it does. If your song has already been nominated, do not nominate it a second time. Covers and remixed are allowed.

Nominations are open until July 9, 11:59 PM.

To me sad isn't the same as depressing so I'm specifically going bleak as can be. Like, "She's Leaving Home" is a sad song but it doesn't "depress" me. I'm going for REAL bummers and ironically, some of them aren't going to make me tear up, they are just going to bring me down.

When You're Fat - Bruce McCulloch *
Faster and Faster - Devo **
Gloomy Sunday - Billie Holiday ***
Dress Rehearsal Rag - Leonard Cohen ****

* (as a lonely dude, this hits close to home)
** (a song about a suicide but even the title and the fact that Devos songs tend to be about the human condition remind me of the terror that time movies faster. Time doesn't fly when you are having fun, just when you get older)
***(THE famous "suicide" song)
**** (Another one about taking ones own life but out of all of them this one, for me anyway, feels like the one that specifically is the most visceral even if it's all largely metaphor. So warnings for this one).

Will update and link these when on a real computer. Some low-hanging fruit, I know.

Everybody Knows - Leonard Cohen
Hallelujah - also Leonard Cohen but I just linked him so have some Pentatonix
Alan and Cerl - Breath of Fire
On My Own - Les Mis (I skipped to the main part of the song in the link)

Aw man, a bunch I came here to post are already taken, nice choices everyone. I still had trouble getting down to only four, had a shortlist of 16...

Good Night/Goodbye to a World mashup - Toby Fox/Porter Robinson/Silvagunner
How to Save a Life - The Fray
Hello -Adele
Title and Registration - Death Cab for Cutie (note: this is the official video but I know a lot of people who can't handle the papercraft surgery in the video. Personally it's always been one of my favourite music videos, because there truly is just a chaotic rush during a heart transplant, and the moment they finish when the paper all lights up is breathtaking and beautiful and how surgeons I've talked to have felt about the moment they knew a surgery worked)

Edit: Swapped one out as I think that song is depressing for me personally but not for the majority of people

You should just let four people submit another song! ;) I'll volunteer! It'll die in the first round anyways!

Not a bad idea. I'll take the next four songs nominated by people. Ill nominate however many we need if i don't get 4 before end of today. Voting thread will go up tomorrow as soon as I figure out the bracket.

Thanks again to everyone for nominating!
