I decided to root for both 164 and 854/Divot, and sad to say Divot lost her first match. But I did find a cool video of when they removed a snare from her neck years ago:

Oh yeah, I saw this and then noticed that today was the first time they had an "I am not a robot" checkbox.
Also Otis lost this weekend. They paired it with a nice "concession walk" video.

Yep, the video above says each salmon is about 5 pounds and ~4500 calories. Since bears don't eat all of every fish they rounded down a bit but yeah. Dang.

I'm just kind of glad the bears don't even know they're in a contest. Imagine just minding your own business, having a sandwich, and some guy runs out and hands you a medal engraved with the words, "Congratulations! You're the fattest fucking bear in America! There's literally nobody more gluttonous in your species than you, and it's a fat, fat species!" Then the guy tells you with a wink, "Now don't eat the medal, it's not made of chocolate."

So dates haven't been announced yet (but probably will be early October) and I gotta say 164/Shower Bear is a front runner for me personally. I love that he sits in the waterfall and hunts down below.

So actual Fat Bear week will be 04-10Oct (and may be delayed if there's a government shutdown), but Fat Bear Junior 2023 starts in a couple hours! Here's the page with info about the four contenders and here is the voting page!
My projection is the twins will win because (spoiled for sad) they were triplets but one cub disappeared during the summer and people have been pretty sad about it.

Fat Bear Week is likely not to happen because of the incompetence and cowardice of Speaker McCarthy.

In seriousness, going out to Katmai is a bucket list thing for me for sure. But it's a pretty intense trek as you have to hire a small plane and such.
Yeah, I am hoping it's just delayed but of course who knows.
