Fantasy Life i: The Game That Steals Time

They released a small update last night (at least for Switch owners, apparently the other systems either already had this update or parts of it already) and it addresses a few nitpicks I had with the game. Now, exits on maps are marked with an icon to tell you where they're heading, i.e. if an exit is to the next floor of a dungeon, it'll have stairs pointing down, but if it's the exit back to a different part of the overworld as some dungeons have, it'll have that, rather than just... nothing, which forced you to memorize which exit was which. Nice!

It also supposedly fixed some bugs, one of them being the city building quests not registering as completed resulting in the inability to progress, but... one of mine still appears bugged (the "free 10 villagers" one, which I've had unlocked for a long time now). It just... doesn't register as done, and just sits there as 10/10 but I get no points or checkmark for it. Ah well, I'm not that invested in the city building stuff at the moment, I basically use the city to level farmer. I really wish I could get the last special potato I need to become a farm master, but the potato boss hasn't spawned for me in a while! <-the previous sentence will make sense if you play the game, I promise lmao. I think part of my issue was it rained all day yesterday, and while that means your crops don't have to be watered all day which is nice, it doesn't seem to allow the weird farming bosses to spawn. Maybe today I'll get it.

I have hit "Hero" (i.e. max rank) for Magician, and the node that supposedly carries over stats to each job is very expensive, it appears, and I've already hit level 70, so it'll be slow going to unlock enough points to buy it. I suppose I could respec, but I kinda don't want to, as I am pretty well built for combat. It'd be nice if I could respec, see if I like the new build, and reload an old save if I don't, but because this game forces autosaves on us, I can't, which sucks. I don't like autosaves! Stop it!

EDIT: Oh, and they also changed the colors of the seeds you plant, so it is MUCH EASIER to tell when you've planted seeds or not. That was frustrating, when I'd forget to plant a whole crop and kept watering nothing lol

I hit Master on all the crafting and gathering jobs, and checked out Hunter. Seems quite fun! What seems to be left is grinding up Ginormosia area ranks and grinding enemy drops for better equipment, which isn't miserable or anything but has diminishing returns, I think. It'd probably be more fun in multiplayer - as would be the random dungeon tree things, which I've done like 8 of (I'm like at 800 years in the past, and the enemies and gather points are getting a bit too tough for my leveled classes and I don't really feel like grinding). I really had a great time with this game and highly recommend it! But at 75 hours, I think I'm good on it for now. I may come back and poke at it, though.

I've been pacing myself when it comes to unlocking new Lives so as not to overwhelm myself with too many options all at once. Even with only about half of them unlocked, it's hard to know what to focus on! Of the two combat Lives I've tried I prefer Magician over Paladin. Ranged combat is just so much more civilized, so I suspect I'll like Hunter as well. Farmer hasn't quite clicked with me yet, though I do appreciate the epic choir-backed boss music that plays when you're digging up a big vegetable.

Farmer is... weird. I got to Master rank just farming whenever I went back to base, which I'd check on periodically. You barely have to play as farmer, really, to max it out. I ended up liking it, but it's a very strange job.

An update is coming mid-June-ish that will allow you to position the camera so you can look into the distance, which is going to make exploring Ginormosia a lot less of a pain in the ass:

Thank you to everyone who has played Fantasy Life i. We will implement the viewpoint that allows you to see the map from a long distance, which was requested by many people. The update will be implemented one after another from around mid-June, although the update will differ depending on the device. Please look forward to it! Below are comparison images. At the same time, we are also responding to several other requests.

That was the big problem with Ginormosia, yeah, even though I found all the towers and shrines. That is sorely needed.

It's a very cute and whimsical game. The writing isn't, like... hilarious, but it's charming and a bit quirky.

Yeah, it's not hilarious, but it is charming. I like the bird guy that follows you around.

Still plugging away at this and having a great time.

I don't know if I'm just the last person to realize or what, but you can change your crafting Buddies' equipment from the crafting interface without needing to swap them into your party. On the screen where you select your Buddies and the quantity you want to craft, press A on your Buddy and then (-) to access their equipment. This is a game-changer for me. It has literally changed the game.

Hmm... I'm not sure that it does affect gatherers, since they need to be in your active party already in order to join you at gathering points. This game is ridiculously convenient, though, so maybe there's something I'm missing.
