Elemental Who Would Win!

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
I feel like I don't know the match well but what I got is that Rachel is on the outside a mean girl/bad girl with hidden depths and Kapp'n won't shut the fuck up to the point of driving people up the wall. I feel like this'll not so much be a physical altercation as a bad chance meeting and Kapp'n'll really bore Amber to death.

I would put Marvel Heroes above most FF summons (uh, Final Fantasy summons) in most cases but I agree, this is a bit of a mismatch for Reed. I think if it was just fire it would be a closer match but it's magic fire and I feel like even if his rubbery body is more resistant to fire than most, it's not one of his stronger resistance buffs and Ifrit will burn him. If this was a rematch with time for Reed to pull out a cool new invention, then 100% Reed wins but I feel like that's not what is happening.

Between Kapp'n and Amber, I feel like any match between them would have to take place on his boat. Kapp'n would yammer about this or that until Amber gets annoyed, she'd yell back at them, and perhaps things would escalate to the point where they start shoving each other. Regardless of who starts it, Kapp'n would win because he's almost certainly the better swimmer, so he could certainly recover from being pushed out while Amber is less likely.

As for the other match, my gut is telling me that Mr. Fantastic wouldn't be able to get the advantage unless he could find a way to hurt Ifrit without touching him, which I'm not sure he could do with his stretchy powers alone. Maybe if there were a body of water nearby or materials to construct a freezing device he could gain an advantage, but even then I'm not sure. Still, I'll leave this match up to the comics experts.

Olli

(he/him)
Reed would not be a match for Ifrit in a vacuum, but on any real arena given his intelligence, he would be able to construct some kind of protective gear (yeah, he's no Tony Stark, but he's done that kind of thing before) and figure out Ifrit's weakness sooner or later.

I'll give the other fight to Kapp'n because he won a coin toss.

Kapp'n has an oar which he could bring into the battle as a fairly theme appropriate weapon so I think he could use that to beat up a teenage girl like Rachel. So Kapp'n makes a win happ'n.

Ifrit burns with victory and Kapp'n takes a slow boat to victory.

Team Fire takes this card for me. The opposition is just too flammable.

Intelligence beats anger, hence Almost Brilliant beats the Angry ""Sun""

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
Yeah I don't think Almost Brilliant is taking this one, oh well. Hate to vote against my own nominee though so I'll just abstain. Actually you know what, I think Almost Brilliant will figure out the pattern and win. Giving it to her. Koromaru has fought multiple demons and things similar to Mothra and won so Koromaru takes it.

Yeah the Sun’s single attack pattern is annoying but surmountable for Mario; an agile little bird shouldn’t have much trouble dodging it, giving her time to survey the environment and find a turtle shell or something which, given her extensive knowledge of almost everything, she should already know can knock it out.

And then yeah I guess pupper’s extensive attack magic kit should have enough in it to at least drive off the big moth if not take it down permanently.

Olli

(he/him)
Yeah, bird's going to take the first bout. It's not going to be easy, but the sun is ultimately dumb and easy to avoid. Dealing the coup de grace is going to be tough, but there's going to be something in that bird brain that allows her to figure it out.

Mothra is a force of good in the world, so she's not going to attack a good dog. Mothra simply flutters away to other things, possibly off to save the world again.

Olli might be right that Mothra and Koromaru won't fight but if they did then I don't really think Koromaru could actually do much to Mothra. Here are some stats on Mothra:
50 Feet / 15 Meters high
75-225 Feet / 25-75 Meters long
225-750 Foot / 75-250 Meter wingspan
Weighs between 5000 and 25000 metric tons.

Has Koro defeated anything of the that magnitude?

Also, I could see AB baiting Angry Sun into charging and the Sun will keep falling for the same trick. AB could use that to cause the Sun to crash into all sorts of unpleasant things or fly out of bounds. So I think Almost Brilliant can get the ring out or win on points.

I happen to have a screenshot of the final boss battle from P3 Reload as a desktop background so gonna say yes? It is with teammates so take that into consideration I suppose.

I was going to go with the sheer relentlessness of the Sun but I've been convinced, Almost Brilliant can make it through this.

Mothra isn't just big, he's powerful. Mothra actually beat Godzilla once. Pretty resoundingly, too. Koromaru can fight big monsters but generally as part of a team.

Fourth Card

Iroh Vs. Pazuzu

Uncle Iroh has proved to be a favourite here but this is a trickier opponent; an actual (quasi-benevolent) demon. Iroh is a master of martial arts and fire bending and is just… cut. But Pazuzu has powerful winds and forced other demon gods to the underworld. Both have their feet in the world of good and evil, with Iroh initially working with the Fire Nation army and Pazuzu representing both destructive and protecting winds.

Olli

(he/him)
Susan is going to win the Fantastic Two bout, no question. Johnny's only offensive option is massive fire damage, and I can't imagine him using that seriously against his sister (outside of a mind-control situation or similar), even in the face of getting killed himself. Sue has a much more varied offensive kit at her disposal, even if you discount her top-tier defensive abilities - she could easily bonk her brother unconscious with a force field, for example. The only situation I can see Johnny possibly winning would be a race, as his flight speed probably beats Sue's force field propulsion by a good amount, but even then, Sue could block his flight with a force field.

The second fight will be a tight one. Fire feeds on air, and I'm assuming Pazuzu's wind power could create a near-void which could put out any fire-based attacks from Iroh. Still, Iroh is a man of many talents, and he could claw back and defeat the demon/godling with ingenuity and his mastery of martial arts.

Violentvixen

(She/Her)
I haven't read much Fantastic Four, but every time I did Johnny seemed obnoxious and entitled while Susan had to deal with/clean up his nonsense so I'm giving it to her because she seems to actually be capable of following through on a task.

Abstaining from the second, seems like an interesting one though.

Kirin

(he/him)
Okay so I'm'a dig a little on Iroh vs Pazuzu.

The Avatar world doesn't really have gods/demons as such, but it does have spirit world beasts and incarnations, some of which can be very powerful and dangerous if angered. While a talented bender could often deal with a lower-level spirit, the really big ones could easily get beyond the capabilities of any single mortal, requiring either the power of the Avatar or a concerted team effort to contain. Of course, the *right* answer to dealing with angry spirits was often not to directly confront them at all (except maybe long enough to prevent them from doing damage), but to figure out why they were angry in the first place and do something to fix the problem.

So, how does all of this apply here? Iroh is a world-class firebending master *and* a very experienced warrior. He could certainly put up a good fight against a powerful supernatural foe, but I don't know that he has the power to take down a demon/demigod in direct confrontation. And in this format, he can't fall back and call on allies. But... the info we have here tells us Pazuzu isn't just an evil demon but can also be a force for good. Iroh's strength could be enough to gets its attention and maybe respect enough to open up a dialog. And then what? It's not always clear how these parlay solutions would go when the context/stakes/consequences of the tournament are a a bit nebulous other than "bragging rights", which I don't think either of these two would care about all that much. But we do also know Iroh can be really good at talking down more hot-headed warriors, so let's say he convinces Pazuzu there's no good reason to continue this fight and potentially hurt other combatants.

As for the other match, yeah, Susan.

Torzelbaum

Yeah, I think Sue could just wrap an airtight force bubble around all of Johnny except for his head and then just roll him out of bounds for an easy ring out victory.

I'm not sure about Iroh vs. Pazuzu. Would Iroh's lightning allow him to get through Pazuzu's wind storm defense?

Purple

(She/Her)
I feel like actual god beats laid back grandpa who'd prefer to be at a restaurant or something even if the latter is made of pure chill.

And... yeah the fantastic 4 faceoff I'm pretty sure has been canonically answered a lot with Sue.

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
Susan simply has the better power set and head on her shoulders for this match.

Iroh is strong and wise... and I think he knows better than to fuck with the literal forces of nature. Pazuzu will win by default.

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
Sue wins with clear eyes. Pazuzu blows down Iroh. The Human Torch is eliminated.

Air Man Vs. Calcifer

Will the robot with a fan on his chest blow out the living flame or merely fan the fire?

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
Look, Hawkgirl is rough and tumble but she won't beat up Guy for being annoying. But he will serve her food and she won't sugarcoat her feelings and Guy will be bummed for a while. This is a default "win" for Hawkgirl but only in that it's a clear crushing loss for Guy.

Califer has some power but I think Air Man has more juice. MAYBE he'll fee Calcifer's fire but he'll keep going till he's blown out.

Purple

(She/Her)
Sadly, blowing out a fire with a big fan is faster than melting a whole robot with a wood fire. And... birds are known for being totally immune to spicy food so I guess Hawk Girl wins there even if it's some sort of food based battle.

You know what, RT-55J argues a solid case. Calcifer takes it.

In difficult mode, Air Man takes 2, 6, or 6 damage from Atomic Fire depending on its level of charge. While this isn't quite as much damage as his primary weakness (Leaf sheild inflicts 8 damage), this is enough for me to classify it as a secondary weakness.

Conversely, Air Man's air shooter does 2 damage to Heat Man, indicating that it's not super good, but it's better than a lemon.

Now, given Calcifer's feats later on in Howl's Moving Castle, I have to say that I think he'd be able to inflict more than 5 half-or-fully charged atomic fire's worth of damage to Air Man before needing to tap out. Thus, Calcifer wins.

As for the other match: I'm sorry Guy but Hawkgirl has got ya beat. The only scenario I can imagine you winning is an episode of Iron Chef, but that this is not.

Olli

(he/him)
I'm also on board with the Air Man math, so Calcifer takes a surprise win here.

Unsurprisingly, the superhero with various powers beats the regular person; according to Wikipedia, she has enhanced healing, strength, vision and limited hover abilities when not wearing Nth metal. She speculates that this is due to her prolonged exposure to the substance. So even without her signature gear, Hawkgirl is able to defeat Guy Fieri without problems. They may fall in love in the process, though.
