Elemental Who Would Win!

Lich would definitely be a tough battle for Iroh but I think he could pull it out in the end. Fire is the go-to against early Lich, which Iroh obviously has covered, and even though he loses the weakness later high level fire and lightning spells are still a decent strategy - and Iroh famously developed the ability to channel lightning, meaning he could sling Lich’s thunder spells right back at him. It’s a risky move but I think it’d give him the final edge he needs to take the monster down.

I'm here to end the reign of giving out free wins based on likability!

Iroh has made it as far as he had because he has kindly grandpa energy and a good head on his shoulders, and keeps coming up against brash young punks. A lich is the opposite of that, with more knowledge and wisdom, and also bunches of spells, and the inherent unkillability that comes not only from being undead but also having a special "ha, can't kill me if I still have this!" trinket stashed away somewhere. Neither is really in a position to dodge anything, and I feel like if they just trade big blasts, the guy with skin in the game is going to suffer from the ol' mortality, giving a win to Lich.

Meanwhile I really can't see The Thing and the regular ol' dog being in a position where either feels comfortable attacking the other, so we'd need some alternate means of resolving this, like I dunno, a contest of endurance or something. Whatever this alternate method is though, at some point tournament organizers are basically being put in a position where they're setting up SOME sort of thing where they're subjecting a grown adult with weird skin and a regular freakin' dog to something unpleasant, whether it's damage of some kind or a long time on a treadmill or whatever, and at some point some sort of animal rights group is going to have to step in and insist they knock that off and let the nice dog just go home, at which point I'm pretty sure The Thing would move on, bearing a grudge against the organizers of all this because really how did we arrive at such a place?

Yes, but this is a JRPG Lich not a pen and paper / tabletop RPG Lich.

I'm still keeping my vote for Koromaru, but this really made me laugh, A+

The Thing would not beat up the good dog, but I agree that he would best it in most surrogate contests of feats.

As for the Lich, a well-prepared party of benders wouldn't have too much trouble taking him out, but unless you come in overprepared he's not the kind of boss you want to fight solo. Sorry Iroh.

Thing and Koromaru tie. Both move on.

The Lich wins. Iroh is eliminated.

I can't see a conflict really happening in the first set. Toph seems like the sort to just be completely smitten by the charms of Calcifer, and might just accept a loss if it means getting to hang out with a new demon pal who likes cooking for friends.

And you would THINK Karnov would have the latter well in hand, breathing fire and all that, but those fireballs tend to come in at head height, and Eartha Kitt has been known to be al slinky and writhing on floors and such. Karnov might be taken in by all the wiles, and the dirt on various celebrities, and, perhaps most effectively, having a musical number all good to go to lure Karnov back to a life of evil!

Olli

Toph could presumably suffocate Calcifer with relative easy.

Eartha wins by outsmarting Karnov, who isn't exactly a rocket surgeon.

Toph is more of a fighter, plus earth beats fire by Pokémon rules and while I wouldn’t apply a pure elemental ruling to every pair, in this case Calcifer *is* fire and earth is pretty good at containing that. Plus Toph has experience dealing with firebenders.

I feel like Toph's ability to detect vibrations wouldn't work on Calcifer. But I doubt that Calcifer would stay quiet long enough to take advantage of that. And Toph could probably locate him in some other way(s).

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
I haven't seen Howl but the description of him makes it sound like he shrinks from conflict unless it's serious so I feel like Toph has it before it starts. Karnov seems like a decent guy. So he will probably be putty in Kitt's hands.

With so many winners in the element of AIR (and one remaining fire competitor), we are going to have the remainders battle in the REMAINDER ARENA

Air Man Vs. Ifrit

One of these video game characters is going down. Will Air Man breeze through this one or is Ifrit simply too hot for him to handle?!

Hawkgirl Vs. Aang

Flying superhero with magic disrupting mace and elemental controlling monk.

Not a lot of time to dig into details right now, but briefly so I don’t forget:

I don’t think Air Man has any particular weakness to fire, but he’s a person-sized robot made of metal. I don’t think a few blasts of air are gonna slow Ifrit down enough to keep him from melting the bit down with some well placed Hellfire.

The other match really depends on whether bending counts as “Magic” for the purposes of that mace. If it shuts down Aang’s powers completely, he’s gonna have a hard time doing much to a capable fighter like Hawkgirl, but if it doesn’t work at all his mastery of all elements should give him plenty of options for containing her. I’ll split the difference and say it has *some* effect and gives Aang a hard time, but if he can still dip into his real Avatar power he should still be able to come out on top.

In difficult mode, Air Man takes 2, 6, or 6 damage from Atomic Fire depending on its level of charge. While this isn't quite as much damage as his primary weakness (Leaf sheild inflicts 8 damage), this is enough for me to classify it as a secondary weakness.

Conversely, Air Man's air shooter does 2 damage to Heat Man, indicating that it's not super good, but it's better than a lemon.

Oh, I forgot! Well all the more reason for Ifrit to take it, his attacks are gonna be at *least* as strong as fully charged Atomic Fire.

Air Man and Aang. The former based mostly on vibes; the latter because she's gonna have a heck of a time getting anywhere near Aang.

While I would undoubtedly categorize Aang's abilities as magic that can be "nullified" by Hawkgirl's mace, I need a clearer understanding of nature of its nullification properties before I can consider giving the match to her. It's one thing for her to use it to stop some wind, but it's another thing for her to use it to stop an incoming boulder.

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
I think Ifrit's fire is powerful enough to melt down a robot, especially one that can fan the flames of his power.

The second match is a real tough one. First, I don't think Aang would bring out his Avatar State for this. But I think it remains a tough bout for both parties. Hawkgirl's strengths; she'd probably go pretty hard. Aang is a kid but Hawks generally are rough fighters in general and even a sparring match is gonna draw some blood. I suspect the Nth Metal would have an effect on disrupting Avatar and bending powers which canonically comes from supernatural sources (the spirit creatures that gave humans bending). That said, the magic is in the bender, not the elements bent; which is to say the mace would work on the elements like they would on natural elements but wouldn't repel them more strongly for being magic. The effectiveness would be dependent on actually hitting the bender. And that might turn this one into a chase, as Hawkgirl chases Aang around trying to take him out.

Now, both are wise fighters and while I'd put Aang as more naturally a lateral thinker in terms of powers, any superhero with a long-standing career is used to having to use their wits. I think if Aang takes one hit he is out but he can't keep running. Wind alone probably won't be super effective so it will probably be dependent on not only using bending but combining elements in ways to neutralize her. He has ranged attacks and while Hawkgirl can probably repel boulders, she is still a close ranged fighter. So I think it comes down to if he can try tricker attacks using sand/dust or maybe using fire and air to generate smoke to take her out.

This is where it gets trickier. Like a good fantasy hero, a good superhero needs to be able to overcome trickier attacks. Can she figure out what he is going to do? Or react and counter attack appropriately? This is a tough one for me; I feel like my answer could change on what day of the week you ask me. But I'm going to say while she'll make Aang really sweat, Aang will win this in the end and at the end of the fight might ask if he can learn from her.
