There's definitely a navigational "puzzle" there. There are points of light (not the lines of grace) scattered around the map that lead you on a safe route through the snowstorm. They also bring you near several points of interest.

There's a ghost NPC near the beginning of the area that clues you into it.

huh

well i got through it on both playthroughs but just ignoring it, then

i guess if you want to spend time navigating the area instead of just ignoring it, you can also do that

the more you know

No i get that you want to go for the map location. This is just the first time there was a consistent weather pattern that popped up and I was curious if I needed to get an item or something else to deal with it.

The storm was the new thing. Thanks for the direction.

This is what I meant, thank you.

the more i think about it, the more i think it's funny that there's apparently a navigational and obscured visibility puzzle with the alternate solution of "just ignore it, there's nothing keeping you here"

looking at other discussions of this area elsewhere, i see there are apparently a lot of "fuck the devs for [area name]" type threads of people saying that section is awful, but i think i cleared it both times by just riding past it on Torrent and ignoring the enemies... it didn't even register for me as an obstacle, to the extent that after beating the game twice i was still confused by how there was even a question about how to get past it.... i got past it by paying no attention to it at all. by that point in the game, i just wanted to get to the haligtree and primarily experienced the obscured visibility as a narrative/atmospheric effect

i feel like i played a totally different game from the people who experienced this as a frustrating challenge while i just mr magoo'd my way through it with no noticeable resistance lol

It's not that surprising that people have different experiences in a game with a relatively open ended structure. In both world design and character building.

When I got there the will-o-the-wisp things could basically oneshot me if they nailed me with a counter hit. Regardless, I didn't find the area frustrating at all. My reaction was more "this is neat - like DS2's frigid outskirts, but not miserable".

estragon - don't worry. I did it "the right way" and still feel the same as you about the whole area.

People survived [pick anything from anywhere in the game] but THIS is the breaking point of frustration? Really?

i'm not exactly worried (or surprised), i just sincerely think it's funny that there's apparently an infamous challenge here that provoked some degree of online backlash, and i didn't even notice it, twice

It didn't seem like much of anything to me either, for what it's worth. Are people really getting so mad about it?

apparently yeah, although in fairness finding people getting mad about video games online isn't exactly a super hard task!

The weather pattern is just part of that area, and I don't believe there's anything you can do to fix it. That said, it's only for the first half of the area, so once you push through you're in the clear. That place was a bit of a pain for me the first time through, but if you just put down a couple markers along the road and toward the map section, and beeline your way toward the blue lights, you can get through in relatively short order. Also, I kinda liked it. It's an open world and we're on snowy mountaintops, why shouldn't there be a blinding snowstorm now and then?

That said, there is a lot of stuff actually hidden inside the stormy area, stuff I only went back to get later. There's a troll-pulled hearse with a weapon in it (Not the one guarded by 2 Night's Cavalry at night, a different one), there's a rotten gladiator duelist who drops some of the rot-duelist gear, and there's a whole-ass catacomb dungeon along the Eastern wall. Some other less-critical stuff too.

Oh, I was not talking about Consecrated Snowfields, whatever that is (I'm not there yet still got a big big guy to take care of). I was talking about the snowstorm that occurs in Mountaintop of the Giants between the Freezing Lake site of grace and the First Church of Marika site of grace.

Though Estragon's, and other's, advice to simply run toward the map marker location held true here as well.

Ohhh. Yeah, what Regulus said. Also, that storm does clear up, but you'll figure it out when you find the source.

I found the source of the storm, cleared it up, and I've located the Consecrated Snowfields (after defeating Commander Niall in the cheesiest way possible)

What way is that? I thought they just patched out the actual cheesiest way possible (shooting him with arrows through one of the arrow slits in the walls from outside the boss room).

After taken dozens and dozens of attempts on the
Fire Giant I beat Godskin Duo
on the 2nd try?! That was unexpected, but welcome!

Yessss.

They can be a roadblock, but using summons/ashes and/or using the sleep status against them can make it a much easier fight to approach. Congrats!

I let Lhutel the Headless get close to them while I peppered them with Meteor Shower and Comet Azur.

Lhutel is great. Most of the time he never gets hit AND actually engages the foe enough to keep them off of me. I know Tiche is supposed to be the BEST but I can't beat her yet...

Best way to beat her (if you don't mind some cheese) is
to jump on a rock on the edge of the arena. She has a tendency to get stuck on the geometry and it makes her much easier to deal with.

Welp, I've made it to Radagon and with a summoned ash I can beat him. But, by then my ash is usually dead and Im out of my flask of wonderous physick so the battle against the beast is the big road block. I got to find some way to not use so many resources on Radagon.
