We all know there's a second shoe that says "and has been hooking up with Daphne for decades" let's drop that one too in a proper official capacity.

Oh, hey, someone asked about Kaling Velma’s sexuality at NYCC.
“Again, we don’t want to give away any spoilers,” said showrunner Charlie Grandy.

“This journey of self-discovery for her is something that really drew us to this project [and] into this character, so we want to honor other interpretations and what we think feels really modern…[that’s] as vague as I can be,” Kaling responded.
So I guess the answer right now is *wink*

Also, I had seen a quote about the Scooby gang not being “defined by their whiteness,” but I like that the actual quote is “nowhere is The Gang defined by their whiteness, except for Fred.”

I’d be more comfortable if it was on a streamer that isn’t actively gutting their animated lineup but I’ll take Lord & Miller promoting it as a good sign.

I wonder if Gandhi will survive the thaw.

I have never heard of that show. Is it one of these great shows that get overlooked and have only one season? Thinking of Freaks and Geeks here.

It only lasted a brief 13 episode season 20 years ago on MTV, though it aired a lot on Teletoon, the Canadian cartoon channel, due to it being animated by Nelvana, a Canadian company, and because of Cancon rules, Canadian networks must air a certain percentage of Canadian programming so it got a lot of play.

It was also the first big series by Lord and Miller, the writing/directing team from The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street who, even though they've done less directing lately, have been writing and producing some big deal comedies and cartoons. It was also co-created by Bill Lawrence, creator of Scrubs and co-creator of Ted Lasso.

Basically, it was a parody of teen dramas like Dawson's Creek and 90210 but with the clones of historical figures, the result of a project by a secret government organization and the school principal and mad scientist. Every episode is declared a "very special episode", often parodying the "message" episodes of teen dramas (like "litter kills... but not enough litter means janitorial staff is out of a job.")

There's definitely some jokes that don't hold up, especially around Cleo and Ghandi, but a lot of it is still really great. The episodes pretty much stand on their own too. I recommend "Episode 2: Election Blue-Galoo".

Yeah, I already watched the first three episodes (the whole concept immediately sold me on it), and episode 2 especially was hilarious. And I finally know where your avatar is from, karzac - finding the media where avatars from the people around here are from is always nice.

Thanks for the info!

I also want to note that it is a show extremely well-versed and fluent in television history, so even beyond the teen dramas, it is parodying sitcoms going back to the 60's at a rapid pace. Very much a show that, like Venture Bros, if you are familiar with the source media for a lot of esoteric jokes, you will enjoy it more.

I'm also noting this because such a concept seemed fairly novel in 2000, but now it kind of has that Citizen Kane thing going where some of its best gags/concepts have become background radiation for everything.

That said, did you see the pool? They flipped the bitch!

I remember being in college and going to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs entirely based on my girlfriend at the time telling me that the Clone High guys made a movie.
Wise decision, I adore that movie.

The a la mode gag is a level of brilliance and stupidity I’ve yet to see matched by pretty much any joke in any movie.

If you’re tickled by the idea of Tails saying “I was trained by the misery of life in this foul and heartless city” then Sonic Prime is the show for you. It’s a fun mix between “gotta go fast” quippy Sonic and overwrought “war is hell” lore-spewing Sonic. It also exudes a lot of SatAM Sonic energy.

My only complaint is it’s doing a multiverse thing but you just end up seeing different versions of the same 5-6 characters instead of the litany of nonsense they could pull from. I know any non-game material would be too much to ask but the games have plenty. There’s one point in particular where I thought the Chaotix were about to show up but it was just generic furries.

Also the plan is to have 24 episodes total in three eight episode chunks, so the current “season” just kind of cuts off in the middle of things. Still, it’s decent fun. Like most Sonic shows, it’s a solid B.

Done with Amphibia. What a fun show. Great artstyle, pretty fun, and I enjoyed the relationships between the characters.

That ending was amazing. And I liked that you get a short scene about ten years later.

I just finished this too! It was a bit of a slow burn, but I really liked it as well. The ending was really good, but it gave me major sads. :-(

(Also, super surprised to see a Fire Emblem 3 Houses reference of all things in the 2nd-to-last episode)

Samsies.

With owl house ending soon feels like the end of an era with respect to good kids shows, but hopefully something new will pop up.

Anybody know their Garfield and Friends? (The 80's-90's version) I'm trying to find the episode with this one gag:
Jon had a friend/relative torturing him with boring vacation photos on a projector. I remember one part the husband was all "put on your 3D glasses now, here are photos of my wife waving in 3D."

That's the one, thanks!

I was reading through a list of every episode and may as share some things I learned:
Invasion of the Big Robots got a sort-of sequel, Clash of the Titans where Garfield is in X-Men
The singing ants got at least two more appearances after Picnic Panic: Another Ant Episode and A Vacation From His Senses

the US Acres Short The Bunny Rabbits Is Coming! is comedy gold, and I will brook no dissent.

Man, this show really went into the weeds sometimes. Wasn't there an episode where Garfield was dispelling various myths, including the notion that Wyoming was a state?

Eek! the Cat, a sort of psychotic Canadian Garfield where the cat is actually very nice but everybody wants to kill him anyway, had a similar running joke, where a family of incredibly dull squirrels would force visitors to watch their vacation slides.

Garfield and Friends rules. One of my favorite gags of all time is when Garfield, Jon and Odie are in a plane that’s going down, and Garfield checks the TV Guide to see if it’s the final episode.

There was! I specifically remember the joke that “Wyoming” is a Native American word that means “no state here.”

I remember there being some hay made about how "actually the showrunner wanted to make a show about a South Asian Teen Girl Detective but THE SUITS were like NO!"

I gotta say, if the only thing changed was the names of the characters, I'm thinking the suits were right.
