Digital Down-Low for 11/06/2020: We Spared No Expense

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption

Remember to eat all your Halloween candy before you play any of these EXCITING NEW VIDEO GAMES, kids!

Kind of a thin week, this week. But we also had a whole bunch of stealth releases after I posted the thread last week, so WHO KNOWS?!?! And first up is Jurassic World: Evolution; a theme-park-em-up about a place that has a... checkered past with attendee safety, we'll say. But maybe you think you can do a better job running the place than Richard Attenborough. That's not a high bar to hit, admittedly, but still feels like the height of hubris to claim.

Anyway, get yourself down to ol' Isla Nublar, and get yourself a zoo full of dinocritters, and I am going to go ahead and presume that there is no Win State for the game, since Jurassic parks tend to end badly.

Roah looks like it wants to be both Shantae and Guacamelee, just with a manticore girl instead of a half-genie/full Luchadore. So I will give it points for offering representation to a less visible section of monster-girl, even if nothing else about the trailer made me stop and go "OOOOH".

Seven Knights is a port of a mobile RPG that I've never heard of before, but I'm assuming it's had millions of downloads and is Gacha based. I can neither confirm nor deny this by the eShop page for it, as there is no video game being shown in any of the screens, and the description is not especially informative. I feel like it's the right thing to assume in my gut-bones, though.

Yestermorrow is far and away the most interesting thing this week; it's a troid-em-up (I am assuming) where you've got to navigate between a serene Past as a l'il girl and a desolate monster-pocalypse future as an Adult Lady. Just watching the trailer made me go "Well shucks! That looks like fun!" a few times. Might wait for some impressions on this, but I've got an eye on it.

Memoranda is a weird-style point-and-clicky adventure game about a lady in a Magical Realism world forgetting her name, and meeting other people with weird Magical Realism problems. It's like Amelie except everyone else is also a weirdo.

And finally, we've got Iris and the Giant, which also makes me stop and go "oh... what have we here!", but in this case, what we have here looks to be Slay the Spire, just with a different, neat art style. Walk up to a giants front door, using trading cards to beat down monster armies. It just has more of a story than other games like this, and it's all chock full of emotions and whatnot.
