I can't think of a more appropriate way to celebrate my Birthday Week than by showing off all the BRAND NEW VIDEO GAMES that are to exist in it!
And we're kicking things off with what may be the all time champion of bad timing for these threads; Diablo II: Resurrected a gussied up (but otherwise unchanged) console port of one of the most celebrated loot-em-ups ever made. Announced shortly after the last time Blizzard was in hot water for, you know... everything they've done and being released *scant days* after they were literally served subpeonas for everything they've done. I'm pretty sure that one is a coincidence at least.
Anyway; click on monsters and turn those clicks into new shirts and the like as they pop out of dead skellies, and it was really fun, but the idea has also been iterated on and, to my knowledge the guys that made Torchlight and Titans Quest aren't on the verge of being arrested for any interpersonal transgressions.
Just sayin', there's options is all.
Vastly less controversial is Fistifluffs, which appears to be Power Stone, by way of being a game in the Whimsical Jackass Simulator, where you dress up little kitties in little outfits and have then bust up the hosue while vying for supremacy in a multi-cat BRAWL PILE. Or you can just dress up little kitties in outfits and have them play nicely in a room.
You know, however you want to video game.
Suzerain is a president-em-up where you use TEXT BASED ROLE PLAYING to pretend to be a president of the country of Sortland and deal with all kind of President Problems, like dealing with rowdy neighbors, sharing all the hot-goss from your cabinet, and dealing with the just *rowdy* mess your predecessor left.
Make a Vote for Politics, with Suzerain!
The Plane Effect is an emote-em-up puzzle (?) game about an office bloke who wants to clock out for the day and get back home before a weird space explosion does all its funky bad business. And your commute home is unusual either because of the weird space explosion thing or else because this is one of those games that are all moody and atmospheric to make you feel strongly about walking home after a long day of work and/or trying to get home because a Weird Space Explosion is about to happen.
Beast Breaker looks delightful, and is the game in this thread I'm most likely to buy myself (not counting the fact that some are re-releases of games I already owned); it's an RPG where you're a little varmint-guy who, along with his varmint buddies, is tasked with completely disassembling GIANT MONSTERS. And this is done by pinballing them to death. It's Monster Hunter/Peggle, yo.
And it's from the creators of Threes, so you KNOW it's something you intend to play for a minute and WHOOPS, three hours have gone by.
Embr is another Whimsical Jackass Simulator, but this time you're a firefighter. Who is looking to earn a little side-cash mid-firefight through rampant destruction, thievery and extorting people for your good deeds. Also it's a competitive co-op game. So you can help, rob and explode your friends too!
And speaking of whimsical jackasses, that describes 90% of the cast of Dragonball Z: Kakarot! It's an action-rpg based on those wonderful balls that all the dragons love so much, and the rowdy fellows who fight over them! Based on expert testimonials, it's a really fun experience if you already like Dragonball Z, and has precious little to recommend about it if you do not.
Enjoy clobbering Saibamen, over and over again!
And we're wrapping things up with a game with less of a focus on clobberin' and explosions; Spacebase: Startopia, a city simulator kind of game where you've got to take a space station from Drab to FAB! And occasionally have to explode aliens who are getting rowdy, and also a narrator who is frequently rude to you.
Right now that's all I can say. Maybe later I can say things that are more interesting. WHO KNOWS?!?!?
