Other contenders for thread title include “Yo Ho Ho, he took a blast of shotgun” and “Ye best start believing in science fiction stories… you’re in one!”
But first, a different game! Volgarr the Viking 2, specifically! The original Volgarr was a pretty darn solid sidescroller much in the Ghosts and Goblins vein, but much Conannier, and this looks to be much the same thing, but *now* there’s multiple playable characters.
But it’s still brutally difficult but expertly balanced game about hacking the ever loving trash out of everything that is so arrogant as to exist in your general proximity.
Next up, it’s one of those pirate games I implied! But not the robot one; it’s Cat Quest 3! The sequel to Cats Quest 2 which was *itself* a sequel to Cats Quest! I didn’t really give the first two the time of day, assuming they were junky, janky Diablo-em-ups. But this one looks *fancy* and pretty fun! Also pirate themed! And chock full of cat puns. And equally chock full of l’il nooks and crannies to be rewarded. And further full of spooky ghost pirates.
I’ve got the demo downloading now so *keep watching this space*
And speaking of pirates, we’ve got the game I’m operating at the highest level of Jazzed for; Steamworld Heist 2! The Steamworld series, overall, is one of astonishingly high quality and Heist might well have been my favourite of the lot.
What we have here is a side scrolling turn based strategy game, which is fine enough on its own, but the *real* jazzamatazz comes from the simple elegance of trying to set up bank-shots so you can blast a bots hat clean off their head and claim it for yourself. This time there’s a lot more variety of mission types AND ship to ship combat which is always something I enjoy.
Raise your hook and raise your sword, steal a ship and fight the horde!
That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime: Isekai Chronicle is next and it’s an adaptation of the anime of the same name! I ain’t watched it, but I know it’s got its fans. I didn’t see any slimes amidst the playable cast so I’m always suspicious.
Anyway it looks like a Tales game. So if you like the show and also an implied similarity to Tales, then HERE YOU GO.
Next we have not one but *three* Adventure games! Of wildly different tones and content! First up is the one that is not a monster raising sim despite its title; Natsu-Mon: 20th Century Kid! Based on the anime of the same name! It’s a walky vibes-em-up game where you’re a kid, there’s a circus in town and, y’know… stuff to do. Scamper around, catch a fish, do… i’unno Generalized Kid Stuff. Conversely if you want Vibes and would prefer them to be Teenage Punk Rockers, we’ve got Delirium! This one is more puzzle and exploration based! And finally we’ve got a remake of Fate: Stay/Night! Which, as I recall being told, really needed a second whack at its story overall.
And now we’re on to the ReReleases of Old Games, and the biggest of them by far (by my standards at least and *I’m the one driving the bus*, is Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team on the NSO Expanasion Pass. Which is amidst my favorite of the Pokemon spinoff games!
It’s a Mystery Dungeon style Rogue-em-up where you’re one of those incredible pocket sized monsters, the Pokémon! And the difficulty is kind of scaled down because they want this to be accessible to wee scamps! Not toothless, but nothing that will break the skin either.
Next we have another Jalecolle game (that’s Jaleco Collection, you see); Yokai Club! This one doesn’t have any childhood affection from me, and indeed was never released in English prior to this, and it seems to be an action RPG that gave me some Demon Sword vibes. I don’t think it’s *like* Demon Sword but I can’t help my knee jerk reactions!
Anyway, first localization for a Famicom game and it’s got stuff like savestates and achievements added so… yeah.
These Jalecolle releases are doing real good by me so far.
And finally we have another Egg Console release; Arguice no Tsubasa. Which is a mid-80s PC RPG with no English text so… that’s a barrier for entry.
OKAY GO HOME!
