Digital Down-Low for 06/18/2021: The Extra E is for "Exciting!"

Well, making one of these threads less than four hours before Nintendos E3 Direct feels... idiotic. Yet HERE I AM!

Minute of Islands is a pointy-clicker adventure game about a NERD LASS tasked with trying to figure out how to keep the doomsday-preventing machines her home is built on top of up and running when they all start going nuts at once. Can't have that kind of non-sense going on! Get yourself down a hole and start fixing junk!

Beasts of Maravilla Island appears to be a Pokemon Snap-em-up. Spent 20 years waiting for a new one and now we've got two in the same month! Could have spaced those out a bit better! This one is a bit more exploration-heavy, rather than a non-violent rail shooter, as you're exploring a weird magical forest chock full of weird bug creatures and stuff and making them OWN THE CAMERA!

Solitaire Conspiracy is a lot to take in; as it's a tense high-stakes game of international espionage with multiple factions all vying for control... that takes the form of competitive solitaire. And it's also a bunch of slightly more conventional Weird Solitaire variants, but the focus is on the spy stuff. Like SOlitairica, except the rules are different and it looks Mission Impossible-ier

Metal Unit is a 2D robo-chops-em-up platformer that looks pretty Mega Man Zero-y from the trailer, and SHUCKS, that's all I needed to see to slap it into my wishlist.

Okay, see you later!

Well, I was closer;

During the direct we had the surprise announcement and release of Strange Brigade, which appears to be a looter-shooter that's chock-full of GUN MUMMIES! And the best solution to the problem of GUN MUMMIES is more guns to gun the gun mummies with!

The best news is that the choice of gif is REAL EASY

And just as surprising, and as chockful of gunplay, but NOT announced during a Direct is Mushihimesama! This one is a bullet-hell shooter! It sure is one of those!

Tune in next week where your wallet dies!

Octo, Octo, Octo...There's a game all about a cartoon bear and cat in purgatory fixing the newly dead their last meal before heading to the afterlife coming out by the end of the week and you don't even mention it?

Frick, I knew something slipped through my fingers.

Quick; someone post that “Bear is Driving!” clip form the Clerks cartoon.

Oh! Create!

Don't sleep on Mushihimesama. Just a cornucopia of play modes and difficulties, built on a wonderful base game that does bugs right. The Windows port was six years ago already, so one hopes this might lead to more Cave releases down the line on this platform and others.

HEY! Some more Sneaky Stuff popped up! One of which I'm tempted to call the Game of The Week, based on seeing nothing but the title! But we'll get there.

Sunblaze is one of them platformers where the whole idea behind it is that it's *really tough*. People like really tough games, right? Like them Meatboys? This is one of them, except you're a girl!

But not Meat.

Well, no more meat than is in the usual person. There's more to you than mere Meat.

Seicross is this weeks arcade game, and it's... umm...

Hmm...

Man, I've PLAYED Seicross and I don't know how you're supposed to describe it. The Battletoads Turbo Tunnel if it was a shooter, and you were on a Vespa, I guess.

And finally, we have DUNK LORDS. I am excited to pull that up in the eShop and see if my enthusiasm for the title can be maintained!

...okay...

The tagline is "You might be able to ball, but can you FIGHT?

And it appears to be NBA Jam, by way of Super Dodgeball and Basewars.

A perfect combination, by any metric.

Fearful asymmetry
Can we talk about Seicross for a minute? There's a really weird juxtaposition in the audiovisuals... it looks like a tense ride through a desolate futuristic landscape, a sort of collision between the movies Tron and Mad Max. Yet the accompanying soundtrack doesn't sound anything like that; it's jaunty and upbeat and strangely old-fashioned. You'd think the hero should be traveling at half his speed and riding a bicycle with a really large front tire.
