Digital Down-Low for 04/10/2026: Symphony of a Knight

Octopus Prime

Mystery Contraption
(He/Him)
We're cracking off this weeks new releases with the stuff I wasn't aware of when I made last weeks thread, and that means start off with The New Denpamen, which is the Switch 2 port of the free-to-play fourth Denpamen game! Which is, unfortunately kind of hard to get too excited about since, while I really enjoyed the Denpamen games on the 3DS, the Free to Play one is, by all accounts, a pretty miserable experience to play and is burdened with a localization that reads like complete gibberish. And I can confirm that much since even the trailer meant to get you excited for the game has lines like "Join them party" and "Ancient Canele is the ultimate sweets made by my ancestors" so... not especially jazzed for this one.

And what if you don't want a slow paced RPG? What if you want a game about going fast! And jumping on stuff a lot? What if you want a game so dedicated ot the idea of moving quickly that it has a synonym for speed for a title? Well BUCKLE UP, BOZO, because next up is Haste, which is a Roguelite auto-running game where you're a preposterously dressed young woman who has to Sonic the Hedgehog her way across a semi-randomized, and rapidly collapsing, universe on the verge of total heat death.

And speaking of young people in preposterous existential danger, we have Content Warning, which I believe had some degree of praise heaped on it a few years ago. This one is a co-op spooks-em-up where you've got the bright idea to gather up a couple of friends, explore a haunted Ghost World, and then film it for some sweet, sweet Youtube clicks; which you can then turn into ad revenue that you can use to buy better resources to explore even more of the Haunted Ghost World and take even scarier videos!

Head on down to a house of leaves and take a few pics, why don't you?

Moving on to the game that wasn't really on my radar, but then I head a podcast episode about it and now it's at the top of my list; People of Note! This here is in the rare company of Musical-themed RPGs where each party member you recruit is the master of a different genre of music, all recruited by an aspiring DJ who is looking to create a super-group whose music slaps hard enough to cancel the apocalypse. Kind of looks to be a combination of Chrono Trigger and Rock & Rule.

Or... I guess Tokyo Mirage Sessions, I guess...

Either way, it looks amazing and *yes, I *might* have Keylocker and Infinite Guitars and No Straight Roads on my backlog already but... still putting this at the top of my priority list.

Speaking of disparate genres of individuals coming together to *beat ass* we have the surprisingly long coming follow-up to Pokémon Stadium; Pokémon Champions is a straight up "take your l'il guys and bash them against the other persons l'il guys" game; no world to explore, no monsters to catch (not traditionally at least) nothin' just you, a team of monsters either purchased in game or ported over from other releases and a profound desire to *beat ass* with them.

Based on the trailer, it looks much nicer than the last couple of mainline games but that bar isn't exactly hard to hit.

And finally we have an old game re-release, and it's a somewhat tweaked version of an unappreciated Weird GBA game; Sigma Star Saga DX! The closest thing we ever got to a sequel to The Guardian Legend; splitting its attention between being a highly customizable, Gradius-y shooter and a... kind of mediocre Zeld-y action RPG where you're a guy who has to infiltrate and disguise himself as a member of a species of bug-kini clad astro-bug people and try to figure out why they want to blow up the Earth so friggin' bad. The DX of the title refers to them going ahead and making a bunch of welcome tweaks the original version badly needed, like a reduced random encounter rate and changes to how progression works.

Which is pretty darn welcome since that random encounter thing alone was enough to really hobble my enjoyment of the original release.
