Did you know Sailor Moon got a new dub without any weird edits?

Utena has a very similar look and vibe, and everything but the look and vibe is present in the original versions of... really any of the what like 40 or 50 now Super Sentai series whose fight scenes are carved out to make Power Rangers.

Past that uh........ you might enjoy Princess Tutu?

I was thinking Card Captor Sakura myself. It must have been a challenge for Nelvana to trim out the gay parts while still making the localized version of the show coherent. (There's a young boy who flips out when he sees another male character, and it's not clear why he acts that way until you learn that oh, he had a crush on him.)

Wedding Peach is a clear imitator, were the structure of an episode, and in some ways the whole show, was clearly borrowed from Sailor Moon. Aside from that, just look for Magical Girl anime. There should be more than enough.

Are there any magical girl shows where their transformed forms are Armored suits instead of frilly dresses, or would that just be a regular-ass Sentai show at that point?

Bubblegum Crisis is the only example that springs to mind

Pretty Cure is basically the modern equivalent for Sailor Moon, albeit with a new continuity each season and is usually less queer unfortunately. Yes 5 being most obvious imitator, Hugtto having the same director as Sailor Moon season 1. For what's actually licensed in English, Kira Kira is fairly Sailor Moon-ish (by way of Tokyo Mew Mew) and features store brand Haruka and Michiru, while Netflix did goofy Americanized dubs of the Smile and Dokidoki seasons (as Glitter Force).

For power suit magical girls, there's Symphogear and maybe Nanoha. Both are much more interested in the gross otaku audience than Sailor Moon was, though. Actually I'd suggest Granbelm which is literally just magical girls piloting mecha.

An interesting Western take on magical girls was W. I. T. C. H., but that was as much Harry Potter as Sailor Moon. I think it was executive produced by Greg Weisman from Gargoyles, which helps explain why it was a better show than its contemporary Winx Club. It had a compelling, complex team of characters... I would recommend giving it a shot.

Rei brings store brand cola.

Pluto brings a 19th century bottle of Coca-Cola.

Tuxedo Mask would bring milk.

Just enough for himself, and he would judge everyone else for not doing the same

I've been watching the new dub here and there, it's really good! It's hard to shift from "Serena" to "Usagi" but I'm having a good time.

Crystal just showed up on Canadian Netflix, so I’ve started watching that. Thoughts based on the first episode;

Don’t like the redesigned characters; they’re not drastic redesigns, but everyone looks taller and… I dunno… pointier? Slightly different in a way that bugs me in any case.

I will never get used to Luna not sounding like a grandma. There is no justification for her not to be Grandma. Make that cat old.

The opening credits are way better. Love ‘em. Liked the original, but dang.

The spinny transformation sequence is absolutely amazing looking now.

Mamaru is a complete sack of trash from the moment he appears on screen. As is proper.

The fact that the first season is only 13 episodes makes me worry that there won’t be much focus on Space Vanpires Rubbing Small Businesses; and that’s the greatest tragedy of all

Yes, it is very close to the manga, which didn't have monster of the week stuff, indeed. The designs are also, if my memory is correct, very close to the manga designs, so they are basically the original versions.

It's a long time, since I watched Crystal, though, so I'm not 100% sure.

I did like the design to Narus Fake Mom was some kind of weird furry fish lady thing instead of a emancipated skeleton vampire.

Also, her mom was kidnapped instead of “probably dead and nobody comments on it ever”

Not a word of exaggeration or lie; I would love a whole series about the a whole series of evil space vampire start-up businesses.

I want a whole episode based on Jadeite stressing about how he's going to present another business loan application to open an evil smoothie shop, after the third time the same school girls exploded his evil sports bar and destroyed the staff of his evil shoe-store.

All Jadeite has to do is start an evil vape shop or something, then he can start carding people before they’re allowed in; then boom his problem with teenage superheroes exploding his employees is over!

Doesn’t matter how much of his staff are made up of transformed sexy buckets or stop signs or whatever; the Guardians never acknowledge a threat until it involves them personally.

He can get a pretty good ROI I’d imagine!
