Did we always have a "Trending Content" sidebar on the front page?

I noticed this on the main page just now, but I swear I've never seen it before. Didn't it just used to be people currently online, latest posts, then profile posts? Have I just somehow blown past this every time, or is it actually new?

Also, what makes something "trending"? One of the threads it linked to (game deals) hasn't had a new post for almost a month.
 
Seems to be a new feature added in the current version of XenForo, which we just upgraded to today.
 
Huh, it looks like it might be using original post order, so I wonder if it's retroactively going through the life of the forums to update itself? At least for me at this moment it looks like one from each month of the start of these forums (we started this in August 2020, right?)

It took me at least a year to notice the latest posts and latest profile posts frames so I'm glad you pointed this out, I would found it a year from now and been confused ha.
 
Do we have any control ourselves on whether to display it, or where? I really prefer that space used for recent post, my eyes keep scanning there whenever I load the forums and now the info is useless.
 
Seconding that request if possible, I also would rather have the most recent posts occupy their former space. But if this is just how the forum software is now I'm sure we'll adjust.
 
Yeah I personally am not a big fan of it, it seems to arbitrarily promote some threads when all I want to do is check on the latest posts posted. At the very least the two should swap places, imo.
 
Not a huge fan of this, really confuses me as I like to use the latest posts toolbar to see recently active threads and now that muscle memory is just resulting in me seeing really old threads. If this could be turned off or moved to the bottom I'd be a lot happier and less confused.
 
Will add my voice here; would be wonderful if someone could at least flip the trending content and Latest Posts boxes.
 
Must be my unwillingness to post new discussions, but I always use the new posts button at the top and never scroll down too much there.

I don't have the necessary permissions to make this change, but I will bring it to the attention of the admins.

In retrospect, this reads a bit entitled and whiny to me, I'm sorry if I came off that way. I do appreciate you bringing it to the admins though Vaeran, thank you!

Is this where I can ask about the changes to expand quote, or am I the only one bothered by that?
 
That sidebar can be further customized, if anybody has any further nits to pick in that regard.
 
I just spotted this thread, and I am happy with the reversion to remove "trending posts". Thank you gahitsu!
 
I would have accepted replacing the Trending Post widget with a feed of all Octo's posts, but I can accept this outcome as well.
