I don't think I've got the cycles to host ATM, but I'm just going to mention that I'd love to vote for Top 50 Video Game Dogs if anyone else is feeling inspired.

Also, it's been long enough now that I don't recall who was pitching it, but I'd also still love to do Top 50 Roguelikes.

It was @Sensenic (paging, just in case) but they haven't been on Talking Time since we moved over to this one (unless they changed their name). So maybe you should consider hosting it or blackmail someone else into doing it for you.

Just passing by and I saw this mention. Still here, still the same name, but it's true I barely never enter anymore. I slowly moved onto twitter exclusively, and by now even that I don't browse as much as I used to, haha.

But I still lurk a bit every now and then, I keep the tab open and keep thinking that some day I'll come back! Just, you know, maybe not todat, maybe tomorrow.... and so on.

So I don't think I'm in a place to do the Top 50 Roguelikes, no. 😔
If someone wants to do it I can explain the gimmick I had in mind, if they want. It's pretty simple.

Most people probably know all this but in the event someone who hasn't tried it before wants to, I want to make sure that there's no sense of a barrier to entry/enjoyment. If you don't know what the Popularity Contest is, basically we come together to make a list based on a particular topic. For example, the top 50 fantasy novels or top 50 detectives. People who want to participate submit their personal top favourite 25 things in that topic and all the lists are taken and points tallied and a top 50 list is made from all of that. Its fun. But first, we need to decide on a topic AND a host. And that's where YOU come it.

People who want to host submit their topics. Here are the general rules.

1) So I don't miss your submission, please BOLD your suggestions.
2) Please no joke suggestions. At least, not in BOLD. People have some whimsical ideas for lists so I don't want people submitting a list and I put it up and then they are like "jk, stupid!"
3) If you give a BOLD suggestion, YOU must host. Granted, if something comes up you are free to pass the duty onto another but I just don't want people submitting lists under the assumption that SOMEONE will do it.
4) One submission for person please.
5) Don't insult or put down another person's suggestions. Discussing feasibility, concerns or issues with it are fine, but please don't just say "well, that's a stupid topic". At least one person thinks it isn't.
And please...
If you have any other questions or concerns or I just missed bungling something up, drop me a line.

The deadline is exactly 4 days from this post dropping. So look at the post time and imagine that same time but for this Sunday (depending on your time zone). If you lose this time around, never hesitate to submit again. Its usually worth it if you can be patient. I'm in the middle of one now and it only took... since the first time I did one. Which was also the first one.

Once again I will nominate Top 50 Scams and Cons.
Hi! I'm a Spanish prince and I'd like to nominate 50 Top Fictional Romantic Relationships but this is forbidden to export by my country, so if you send me your personal address and a bank account I can transfer ownership of the list to you and then you could keep part of the profits. DM me!

So I'm torn this time, I could nominate PLANTS again, which I think would be a fun, breezy little list, but also my partner had an interesting idea that it'd be cool to do a Top 50 FICTIONAL WOMEN OVER 60* which is a pretty under-represented demographic and could be really interesting while taking a good bit longer to write up. Anyone have opinions before I lock down my offering for this round?

*Exact criteria subject to debate, but obviously the idea is actual representation of mature/elderly women, so not so much with characters that are technically 1000 but look/act 15, etc.

Yes, that Russian author.

This sounds like a very interesting topic to me!

*throws out his sheet full of Fire Emblem characters*

Seriously, though, this looks like a cool list- although this is such an underepresented demographic that I wonder if I'd be able to write a full list.

Well, let's go for it and see what happens - Fictional Women Over 60 (or thereabouts).

And yeah, it's definitely one I'd have to think about longer for making my own list as well as writing up the final. I think they're out there, and a few great ones spring to mind quickly, but you have to dig a little to fill it out.

I have thought of a few already but wonder if it counts when a younger actress plays a character in old age makeup.

Oooh I like this! I think there are some characters where nailing down the exact age could get tricky but I think the intent is clear. Also from having a father who was an actor and knowing a lot of older actresses, it's tough once you hit 40, much less 60. The roles just aren't there, or are very small ones that are tough to make a career out of. Live theatre tends to have more roles for older women if you're looking for sources though.

Hmm, my first thought would be no since it sounds like the goal is more representation of older actresses, but it's a good question and I'd be interested to see what @Kirin thinks.

But surely old animated characters played by younger voice actresses would qualify.

I don't wanna derail the voting thread too much so I'd wait 'til this thing wins before getting too far into the weeds, but my initial inclination was that it's the characterization that matters most - if the character is intending to be a portrayal of an older woman, the medium isn't as important. (Obviously this would also include literary characters &c where there is no actress as well.)

Ah, makes sense! And I have to say I wanted the clarification because that could affect how I vote.
