Capsize the Vote! The Popularity Contest General and Nomination Thread

JRPGs is up! As is cartoons, musical numbers and Mario characters.

BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, Adrenaline just hit entry #25 (via a tie) so you know what that means! Call for submissions for the next list.

Sounds good to me. I would have done something sooner but the pace was going well so I didn't want to derail anything. OK, folk, for the next four days, submit your topics for the next list.

I used to have a whole... thing but I'll just keep it brief:

schoolhouseelection1.jpg

Most people probably know all this but in the event someone who hasn't tried it before wants to, I want to make sure that there's no sense of a barrier to entry/enjoyment. If you don't know what the Popularity Contest is, basically we come together to make a list based on a particular topic. For example, the top 50 fantasy novels or top 50 detectives. People who want to participate submit their personal top favourite 25 things in that topic and all the lists are taken and points tallied and a top 50 list is made from all of that. Its fun. But first, we need to decide on a topic AND a host. And that's where YOU come it.

People who want to host submit their topics. Here are the general rules.

1) So I don't miss your submission, please BOLD your suggestions.
2) Please no joke suggestions. At least, not in BOLD. People have some whimsical ideas for lists so I don't want people submitting a list and I put it up and then they are like "jk, stupid!"
3) If you give a BOLD suggestion, YOU must host. Granted, if something comes up you are free to pass the duty onto another but I just don't want people submitting lists under the assumption that SOMEONE will do it.
4) One submission for person please.
5) Don't insult or put down another person's suggestions. Discussing feasibility, concerns or issues with it are fine, but please don't just say "well, that's a stupid topic". At least one person thinks it isn't.
And please...

If you have any other questions or concerns or I just missed bungling something up, drop me a line.

The deadline is exactly 4 days from this post dropping. So look at the post time and imagine that same time but for Sunday Morning/Afternoon (depending on your time zone. We will then do a four day vote. If you lose this time around, never hesitate to submit again. Its usually worth it if you can be patient.

Ah, the other side of the very fuzzy line between a fancy tank and a tanky robot.

Contemplating whether I'm up for another one of these yet, but you know, let's throw something a little lighter than my last one out there and see if it sticks...

Top 50 Plants

We've had lots of people and animals and robots but the plant kingdom has barely gotten any showing (I think there were a few in Snacks and a few can be found in some game enemy lists but that's about it). I'm thinking this includes both real or fictional, though I'm open to arguments if people think that would be too cluttered.

Top 50 32 & 64-Bit Video Games
Since I was about to ask I just looked it up myself, and it looks like the major players for this are
  • N64
  • PlayStation
  • Saturn
  • Jaguar
  • 3DO
  • PC-FX
  • 32X on a Genesis
And some also-rans like the FM Towns Marty, Amiga CD32, Apple Pippin, and the Casio Loopy

We are up to four candidates so far:

Top 50 32 & 64-Bit Video Games - Issun
Top 50 Cartoon Characters - Johnny Unusual
Top 50 Fictional Vehicles - Zef
Top 50 Plants - Kirin

And we have until half way to Sunday if anyone wants to add more.

No. Black Sabbath is a band, but Ozzy Osbourne is not.

If you truly believe that the E Street Band, or the New Power Generation, or the Heartbreakers were world-class bands without Springsteen, Prince, or Tom Petty, then I'd say by all means vote for them, but for this list I'd be interested in bands rather than individuals.

Since it's February, this time I'll lose the nomination round with a whole new list: Top 50 Fictional Ships (as in romantic relationship)

Edit: to make voting easier, Top 50 Fictional Romantic Relationships

Simpsons Episodes is up, our unofficial/official list from Octo.

I should point out a couple of these lists have blank parts due to... what I assume was list host oversight that was never cleared up. If anyone has answers for me, it would help.

Detectives is up (thanks for Rascally for collecting the list on the first page). All that's left is the most recent list (until Rock Bands happens)

I'm sure people have noticed my slow pace on the Rock Bands list, and I want to apologize. Work has been really rough for me with a project deadline I wasn't expecting hitting soon--both times I've taken some time to chip away a little bit on the list, it's meant a pileup on my real-job work that I then have to spend the rest of the week compensating for. I'm not sure it'll get better soon, either.

I hate that this may mean pushing back Issun's list, which was tied with mine and which I told him I'd prefer to go first on precisely because I thought my work would be light for now, only for that to not be true at all. I know we typically don't run two lists simultaneously, but I think I'd rather let Issun open the floor for nominations and "play through" rather than wait months and months for Rock Bands to limp toward the finish line. Would everyone else be OK with that?

I think we understand things happen. If Issun is OK with it, I am and I'm sure a lot of other people are fine to let you go at a pace you can go at while Issun does his.

I'm fine with starting my nomination thread on Monday. It seemed to work out okay last time we did this for VG Enemies and Horror Films..

Sounds like a good plan! Totally understandable that work schedules changing would throw a wrench in things.
