Speaking of cheeky, I really wouldn’t expect this to win, but it just popped into my head: Top Musical Intervals

Like, minor 3rd, major 5th… there only so many, so good for a mini list if anything.

Realizing "I don't know what an interval is" I decided to read the wikipedia page, listen to the examples on some of the pages and watch this very concise video.

I have no clue. I guess... notes... but... distance?

EDIT: Maybe what I need is some examples of each on in a familiar song or piece.

Yeah, an interval is technically just the scale distance between two notes, but any given interval tends to have a “feel” and examples definitely help with that. Like for instance, the first two notes of the Star Wars theme are a Major 5th, and it shows up in a lot of heroic, uplifting kind of stuff, like also Superman, Back to the Future, etc.

Or like a Minor 2nd, two notes right next to each other on a keyboard, is “dissonant” and tends to sounds “wrong” or “on edge” and hence gets used a lot for suspense or things that are supposed to make you feel uneasy. Shows up a lot in Severance for example.

Surely someone’s done it but I’d have to search. Though if I ran this list I’ll probably end up having created a half decent reference by the end of it, lol.
