I totally forgot this was starting this weekend.

I have been made a fool
Lead character designer is Rude Tales of Magic’s own neurotic fawn lady, Carly Monardo, so thankfully my stalking of that entire crew on twitter gave me advance notice.

To echo Sprite: It’s good!

Not involved in the writing, I should say, she’s an illustrator. Flipcup is pretty unlikely to show up and insist he knows about orgasms.

I have now watched the show, and set my DVR to record new episodes as they air.

I deem it; Very Good, and I'm notoriously hard to please.

She is a CEO, and based on the first episode, Sebben & Sebben has expanded beyond being a law firm

That is some... hmm. Could they... could they not get the rights to the Boomerang characters?

From my experience working at Turner that's right on par with their typical business practices but it's still a headscratcher of a universe reboot.

The lack of existing HB characters (except Phil, technically) is definitely the weirdest part.

I get that they’re not trying to do Harvey Birdman again, but since this show is a sequel to that one there’s at least be acknowledgement of the biggest draw of the original series

"So there's a MIND-TAKER, okay, but what's her relation to Mentok? Is this another daughter situation, or are there just a bunch of Mind-Takers out there, or what? Weird that they wouldn't explicitly link that back to one of the big memetic characters in the first run... Hell, probably the most memetic characters short of...

Hey, where the fuck is Peter Pottamus?"

Maybe I'm wrong and it's been explicitly stated elsewhere, but this is just the pilot so far. I'm assuming they wanted to establish the (original) characters and general tone first, and they just had like twenty minutes to do that. At the very least, I'm sure we'll get explanations on secondary characters and their origins as we go, and we might even get the "guest stars" as everything is more established. It's clear that, for better or worse, this is made by a more "mature" and restrained team than OG Harvey Birdman and its "let's throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" from the premiere of Adult Swim twenty years ago (!).

Or, put another way, I'm seeing Birdgirl as another DC live action show. The first episode is about a dark, brooding twenty something hero coming home and fighting mundane, anonymous drug dealers. The final episode is gathering components to build a space laser to beat back the living embodiment of cosmic entropy from the dawn of time. Takes a minute to get there.

I LOVE Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, but I'm not certain it should be anything today other than a Time Capsule of the G. W. Bush era, (with a single half-hour Trump-Era Special).
