It almost looks like it’s got a blob of iridescent purple paint all over its face.

Yes, say have I ever told you all that I once held a hummingbird in my hand? All hummingbirds are stunning
My girlfriend got this (and its companion book, Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World) for her sister for Christmas! I've only seen a couple of pages but it's great.Delightful. Reminds me of The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of North America which I highly recommend.
"Diane, still no word about my missing hawk. I have no idea where this search will lead us, but I have a feeling it's a place both wonderful and strange."That’s so cool, linc! You should probably let Cooper know that you found his hawk.

This sounds pretty fantastic, I'm jealous. We get the occasional junco in our yard! They are a rare treat. My girlfriend got way into birds at Christmas and we now have about 5 feeders going, which attracts a pretty big crowd of local birds. We were initially overloaded with sparrows, but she built some sort of hanging tentacle thing that looms over the main feeder and that keeps their numbers down. Now we mostly get house finches (like a sparrow, but smaller and with some red coloring), cardinals, chickadees, starlings and the occasionaly woodpecker, junco or nuthatch. It's been really nice to have abundant birds to look at, especially when I work from home. They definitely appreciate the offering, it has been extremely cold here lately and business is equally brisk.
