Beat Nier:Automata (ending A), glad I finally played this! That said it took me almost three weeks to play for the 10 hours to get to this ending, so not sure if I'm going to pursue the other endings before my Gamepass runs out. I'll definitely check out the other endings though.
Just so you know, you can't just look up the "endings" to see the whole story because the second and third playthroughs are different games.

Oh yeah, I wasn't clear about that. I watched a Let's Play/long edit that covered them all. Also I played a bit of B just to see how different it handled and accidentally triggered G right off the bat, ha! I really like how many goofy endings there are.

Also I did easy mode so I could have the chip for auto pod shooting on, because I wasn't able to hold that button down and fight without physical pain. Is the idea of normal and hard that you can't shoot constantly and have to adapt your fighting style accordingly, or was I missing something?

@ShakeWell: You really weren't kidding about Double Dragon II: The Revenge being easier on Famicom. I just blazed through it with only two deaths. Enemies take a lot less damage for sure. I assume that's from not playing on Supreme Master? It's been so long since I played on Warrior on the NES version since you can't take on the final fight in that mode.

Yeeeeeep. I blazed through it last month on Switch Online, and hot damn, it's so much more fun on Famicom.
 
Cleared Mega Man Zero 1 on the Nintendo switch collection. I used the save assist mode, which makes the game a lot less punishing.

Previously, I have never been able to beat the final boss, I discovered you can pretty much tank him if you have two sub tanks and two cyber elves that rescue you from pits!

The factory level gave me a lot of problems in the past. There are some nearly blind jumps required. The safe assist feature makes this part in particular much easier. There are generous check points throughout.

This game has a lot of really annoying things about it. It’s pretty darn hard, it doesn’t give you many extra lives, and there’s tons of pits and instant kill spikes. You have to really grind for crystals if you want to earn sub tanks. The music for the overworld and base is pretty bad. And yet… I really like it, and I played it on both the game boy Vance and the DS collection, and I see myself playing it again in the future. I guess the weapons and cyber elves make it feel really customizable. The story is simple, but has some weight to it. The world is cool and the bosses have tight patterns.

I’ve never actually played Zero 3 or 4, So maybe I’ll actually get to them this time with the save assist feature. It makes a play through relatively quick.

Finished Horizon Zero Dawn a week or so ago. Overall, A+ game, very satisfying. There were a few issues that popped up here and there, but in the end, I really liked it and I'm stoked for the sequel. I started a NG+ but I think I'll abandon it and do another full run on NG+ to lead up to the sequel.

Or maybe I should burn through this run on Hard to unlock face paint for when I do another full run to lead up to sequel...

Thanks to liberal abuse of save states and the rewind feature, I finally was actually able to beat Wild Guns (thanks to Gogglebob for reminding me that that’s an option). I am one hundred percent certain I would never see the end of this game otherwise. Fortunately, there’s a built in level select so I’m able to see between about 3 fifths of the game under my own steam.

It remains one of my favourite arcadier SNES experiences, and I’m pleased as punch it’s been re-released so often, and that it got the Good Kind of remake

I battered at that game for quite a while to get the legit win. I think you'd probably get it at some point, but it's not an easy time at all. But sometimes depending on when you trigger a full meter, it can really bail you out. My winning run had some extremely fortuitous meter timing.

And yeah, it's a great game. I've always liked the Cabal-like games, and this one executes it extremely well.

I think the super bar is just shooting stuff over time? But since you don't lose any meter when you continue, you start stages with varying levels of bar, which ends up giving different timing on when it finally triggers (I don't think you can hold it and trigger at will).

The lasso is just rapidly hitting the fire button, as opposed to holding it. I didn't know why it was triggering, either, and I would occasionally get a stray lasso when I didn't want it. Honestly, that's one mechanic I didn't find useful, but maybe someone can tell me why it's awesome and I should use it!

It’s helpful for enemies that don’t move much but just constantly heap bullets at you.

Less helpful in execution for enemies that move around very quickly since actually landing a lasso on them is a crapshoot

The Super Bar raises by shooting enemy bullets before they hit you. The lasso is done by mashing fire, instead of holding it.

I didn’t even realize that shooting bullets out of the air was an option.

Or is it just shooting enemies who are presently aiming at you?

No, literally shooting their bullets, the big blinky ones (not grenades and stuff). If you can shoot the bullet before it hits you, it fills the meter a bit.

I have beaten Street Fighter 2010 plenty of times in my life. But it was time to challenge myself: no powerups. No shot lengtheners, no happy fun ball following me, and especially no flip shield capsule on planet Sand Dune. The only things I allowed were health refills and 1ups.
Fighting with almost no range wasn't as impossible as I thought it would be, but the two biggest walls were Basher and his random mace swings, and the part on Sand Dune where you fight two Red Stings at once while little sand gators nip at me. So, things that can move around fast.
After about 90 minutes and a lot of deaths I did it, with one save state before the final boss. The shot meter on the lower right corner is empty.

What's next? I had a pretty fun time with it, and would like to try it again and get a faster time. Maybe even upload a vid to Youtube.

For whatever reason I only made it about half way through Shovel Knight when I first played it years ago, but I decided to give it another shot and found that three full campaigns had been added to the game in the meantime. The Specter Knight campaign really clicked with me, and I played through the whole thing over the last week or so. The fluidity of climbing up walls and dash slashing through floating objects is delightful.

I think I'm going to go play something else next, but I'll keep those other campaigns in mind for when I want something similar.

IMO, Plague Knight is the most fun character to play as, his moveset is really unique, flexible and fun. His campaign reuses the exact levels from Shovel of Hope, but it has a whole different story that I honestly thought was kind of touching. I've kind of burned out on Shovel Knight (never managed to complete King of Cards), but I think Plague Knight's campaign is really superb.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind! I played through the first few minutes of each of them, and Plague Knight's powered up jump seemed tricky. I'm sure I'd get used to it if I stuck with it though.

Honestly I have the hardest time with Plague; the learning curve for his jumps is a bit of a hurdle; and his levels are designed around making sure you have a good handle on them fast.

Specter was my favourite for controlling, King was my favourite for level design and story, and Shovel is the guy sitting most comfortably in the middle

Shovel was the OG, I keep meaning to go back and replay it some day. I remember really enjoying Plague Knight's controls, too, despite their being pretty wonky, because you could ultimately do some crazy stuff with them. Specter Knight, I never quite got his wall run down because I kept instinctively trying to wall-jump, which led to a number of frustrating falls. Something else about it just didn't quite click with me, but it was still enjoyable. Still haven't played King yet - which I should really fix!


As for beating my own games, I got through Night in the Woods the other day. I dunno what it was, but I really enjoyed it. I'm moderately interested in playing through again and seeing some other content - I missed a few side hangout vignettes, and spent most of my hanging out with Bea - but for now I'll just kinda appreciate the glow.

I played through all four campaigns of Shovel Knight when King Knights campaign came out. One after the other. It was great. Did even some of the harder achievements, but got burned out, eventually. But damn, I put a ton of hours into this game. Probably the most-played thing in my Steam library.

I love all four campaigns, though Plague Knight is my least favourite. I feel like it shows, that the levels were only adjusted for him. Still a blast, though.

One day, i will get all the achievements. It's just so, so great.

Finished Control. Ultimately I quite enjoyed it, although the combat got really samey and it had huge visual clarity problems. Enemy projectiles were especially difficult to see. Loved the weird setting though and the interesting directorial choices, and the environmental design is fantastic. I ended up doing the Alan Wake DLC 2/3s of the way through the game, and regretted it. The DLC itself was quite good - I especially liked the puzzly bits - but the combat was way harder than the main campaign, and I never played Alan Wake, so the plot was nonsense. It made the last bit of the game much more of a slog - I wish I had done a couple other sidequests instead.

I might come back to it to do a couple missions here and there when I feel like shooting guys, but mostly I hope Remedy gets to make a sequel.

It was alright? But then I'm pretty lukewarm on Alan Wake himself and I think the world Remedy's created around him is more interesting than the character himself. Remedy's already hinted in a few places that their next game is going to be centered around Wake again if it doesn't star him again.

Judgment is in the books, all side cases complete. The game has its issues, both common with its parent series and unique to itself but it had a compelling plot that finished strong. If I had my wishlist for a sequel it'd be making the crane style not kinda worthless, nixing the entire Keihin gang concept (most especially the character whose personality is just "fat" but really the entire thing just isn't very interesting) and cut way the hell down on the tailing missions. In general the game uses a lot of the ingredients of Yakuza to create a very different mood and style so I think there's a lot of potential in further Judgment games. It feels like the game as released has a lot of half-implemented systems meant to lend more detective flavor and I'd be interested in expansions on the ideas around disguises, lockpicking and infiltration but they really only show up in a handful of places in this game and feel more like partly implemented concepts than gamechangers.

This all isn't to say I didn't have a great time with the game, just that it feels like a Judgment 2 would really shine.
