They did have that splurge back in 2018 when they got Yelich and Cain, but yeah, definitely doesn't feel great to have your rival get a star like Arenado.
That's one of the things getting me even more excited for the Blue Jays this season: the Yankees, Red Sox and Rays have all been fairly quiet. I guess the Yankees bringing back LeMahieu is the biggest deal any of those three have made.

Don't know if we have any Padres fans here, but if we do, congrats on that Tatis deal! One of the rare deals that feels good for everybody involved. Tatis gets paid, the Padres get a bona fide star and face of the franchise for what could well be a bargain, and baseball fans everywhere get to look forward to a tight NL West race for years to come. I mean, I guess that's not great if your a fan of the Rockies, Diamondbacks or Giants. Sorry about that.

It's just, this team will almost certainly reach it's 20th consecutive year without a playoff appearance this fall, barring some miracle performance this season. Some years, like 2014, were fun to watch even though they fell short, but overall it fucking sucks being a fan of this team when they don't show any sign that they actually care about winning. And then to see the people at the top show themselves to be such awful people I can't even explain the benefit of my being a fan anymore. Like, if I was a Yankees fan or something like that and saw this out of my team, at least I could say that I've gotten some good baseball out of them recently. But no, we have to deal with shit like this for the privilege of experiencing more years of futility. What the hell is the point?

Imagine being a Seattleite that only likes baseball. You watch the Sounders, Storm and Seahawks win championships all over the place and consistently make the postseason (hell, the Kraken will probably win it all before the Ms make the playoffs). UW football is making bowl games on the regular, its men's team has made the tourney several times in the last 15 years, and the women's team has made a Final Four recently. Meanwhile all you have is the biggest failure of a professional sports franchise in the 21st century and now it turns out the people at the top are awful. Gotta be brutal.

Except unless you're one of those "women can't sports!" fuckheads you've got some quality B-Ball to watch, and if you are one of those people you don't deserve the Storm anyways.
I mean, even if you are, you've got the Huskies to root for too. But it just hits different, especially when their seasons don't overlap. A big part of the appeal of NBA basketball is that every team comes to visit you so you can get to see the entire league playing in your town, even if your team is ass/not worth rooting for. And having the Storm play for you doesn't get LeBron, Harden, Durant, Curry, Zion, Luka, Giannis, etc to walk onto a court for you to watch play, unfortunately.

Happy for San Diego and Tatis. Imagine coming from the DR and inking a deal for a third of a billion dollars at age 22.
He probably grew up fine with a father who earned $17M playing the game himself.
Never said or implied anything to the contrary. Mans could have come from Palm Springs and my sentiments would have been mostly the same. $17M is a lot of money. $340M is generational wealth, and he's got it at age 22.
The Royals plan seems to be "Make it 2015 again through science or magic" and I wish them luck. I am not going to sneeze a signing a fan favorite, if marginal, player to a small contract for one last go around. (This is about the Royals bringing back Jarrod Dyson.)
MLB is gonna pull the 2021 All-Star game out of Georgia. Feels mildly weird to see MLB be on the right side of history for once, but I'll take it.

Blue Jays have lost five in a row, after they were on a hot streak. The last four have all been close - within 2 runs - and the winning runs were scored in 9th, 12th, 8th and 9th. All at home, all against division rivals. Just a heartbreaking streak of loses. I can't watch the game today, I can't watch them suffer a four game sweep to the Rays.
The east is just a tough division to be a pretty good young team in.

Yeah, doesn't help that the we've gotten all of 4 games from our big free agent signing too.
That said, our position player core has been super fun. Vlad is playing like an MVP, Bo Bichette and Teoscar Hernandez are great and Marcus Semien is looking like the best signing of the offseason.

I made the mistake of watching the beginning of today's game. First inning isn't over and the Jays are already down 5-0. Sorry guys, that was my fault.
EDIT: I made the mistake of watching more. Blue Jays managed to tie it by the 8th with 4 home runs (2 from Vladdy) and a great performance from Ross Stripling. Rays went ahead 7-5 in the top of the 10th, Marcus Semien homered to tie it at 7 in the bottom. Now it's the top of the 11th and the Rays have gone ahead 14-7. I hate the Tampa Bay Rays.
