Bands You Feel Like No One Has Ever Heard of Except You

I'm going to start this off with Angel Electronics. I swear I'm the only person who has ever heard of this band and they're incredibly fun and weird. It's one of the many projects of Ada Rook of Black Dresses, another band I feel like I'm the only one who has ever heard of.

Headcanon: this is an alternate past where John Flansburg was much less cynical after hooking up with a manic pixie dream girl who‘s also Aggretsuko.

Anyway that’s pretty fun, thanks for sharing.

Oh hey is this the thread where I get to post about Pete and the Pirates? They were a British indie rock band who made two EPs and two albums and then broke up in 2011. I've never even heard their second album, but I was a big fan of their first one Little Death. It was clever and sincere without being cloying, and hooky as hell.

In the early 2000s there was a show called New York Noise on the local public access channel here. They aired music videos from mostly local indie bands (which is where I first saw/heard The National), but they also showed the two videos below, and that's where I found these guys. Unfortunately they only seem to exist online in potato quality, but it's better than nothing. I think the low budget charm still shines through, especially on the first one ("Mr. Understanding").

I'm almost certain that I'm mistaken in thinking they're not well known, but every now and then I'm amazed that I don't hear more FreezePop. They're great.

I can tell you they weren't known to me, but they are now. I love it.

Just caught up on this thread and oh hey, I know Freezepop! Though it's been a hot minute since I thought about 'em. I feel like they made a moderate splash in nerd-pop circles like a decade or more ago. I remember liking Bike Thief.

I don't know Freezepop's broader catalogue, but I definitely remember "Less Talk More Rokk" as one of the highlights of Guitar Hero II.

The only thing I know about Freezepop is that they cover the Jem theme song and its amazing.

In the internet age its hard for me to list any band and feel safe that no one has heard of them. I will say I like Golden Smog and the Toadies a lot and it feels like both bands deserve to be more popular. But they are not unknown.

The Rosedales are probably the band I listen to with smallest audience. I'm not really sure how to describe them. Kind of like the Misfits in that they have a strong horror theme to the band, but they are less tongue in cheek.

Oh man, I LOVE them. Thank you so much for sharing. This is right up my alley.

I'm glad you like the Rosedales!

I discovered them listening to a horror music and movie podcast (I forgot the name!). Most weeks the show would review a metal album which I could care less about. But the Rosedales similarly captured my interest when I heard them for the first time.

So many bands that "no one" listens to. I have a whole playlist on Tidal of stuff that I've never heard anyone talk about. Here's one.
