I've just resized my regular and Xmas avatars to better fit the circle instead of looking like I ran headlong into a window, so I'm good either way. I feel like I'm not taking advantage of the empty space, though.

Does the forum support transparencies?

EDIT: Just realized that the default mode applies a white backdrop to my transparent PNG, and the After Dark mode applies a black backdrop. I'm good :D

It will take up the same amount of space either way, and some people could use the extra real estate. And if you like circles, you could still upload a circle shaped avatar. I’m not any good with transparencies, but I’m pretty sure there’s a way to do it.

I voted for circle simply because I optimized this newest avatar to display in a circle and don't want to have to revisit it so soon.

Embrace change!

I'm honestly fine with either way, but I voted for circle because I think it looks pretty stylish!

I'm not sure whether it spites my face, but the circle definitely cuts off the tip of my nose!

ROUND 2. FIGHT!

What are our feelings on "square but with rounded corners"?

Rounded square looks perfect. Don't change a thing.

Thanks for doing this. The circular avatars kind of bothered me but I thought it was too trivial an issue to bring up. This looks way better.

All circles will fit within the square.
If you want a circle just trim your avatar image.

Overall, the rounded corners look is neat! I like it, looking at other people's avatars.

OTOH, it does really weird things to *mine*, 'cause I had a one-pixel square border on it, which now gets cut off oddly. I don't necessarily hate it, but I might go back and remove it at some point.

Looks like I fucked up the transparency, though.

The background color is automatically added to fit the theme (white for light themes, black for dark themes). As far as I know, it's the only thing that changes when I tell the system a theme is light or dark -- all of the theme colors are configured separately, so I could lie about whether a theme is light or dark if I wanted -- and I don't have any control over that behavior.

If it's any consolation, it blends in really nicely in night mode.

Replace instances of "@xf-AvatarBG" in template > core_avatar.less with "transparent". or find out where template variables are defined.

Hm, yours is still white all around the moogle. Or am I misunderstanding?
