Atomiswave Now on Dreamcast!

A dude by the name of MegaVolt85 has been converting Atomiswave arcade games to Dreamcast disc images. Because the hardware is nearly identical (the arcade board has more RAM, but that's really it), these games are not ports, they're conversions that are running the original code natively. So far, we've got Metal Slug 6 (damn that game is stingy with ammo for special weapons), King of Fighters XI, and Neo-Geo Battle Coliseum. But he's said he plans to do all of them, which has me very hype for Dolphin Blue. I won't share links here, since I think that's still a no-no on this forum, but I've tried Metal Slug 6 on my GDEmu and it works great!

This is definitely cool, but I'm gonna be that guy who says this really isn't worth the effort to play Metal Slug 6 :p

Yes, kinda, but that game is still widely available on Xbox Series (and PS3, with a JP account), so I'm less enthused. No doubt the original arcade versh has its perks though.

I would like to play Dolphin Blue, mind

That's the one I had and I thought it was great at the time. I even unlocked all the secret lads. Neo-Dio, Mizuchi, and I think one other. Good times.

DOLPHIN BLUE.

Supposedly made by Nazca expatriates, it's like Metal Slug meets In the Hunt, kinda. Stranded in the arcade until now.

Not yet, but MegaVolt has said he plans to do all of the games on the format.

EDIT: Spoke too soon! That one went up TODAY!

I ended up emulating Dolphin Blue earlier this year (on my work laptop, because my personal one is junk). It was pretty solid!

Yeah, it's a fantastic game - I had a go at a London arcade a while ago and it's an almost perfect meeting of the raucous military slapstick of Metal Slug and the precise, measured gameplay of Contra. Unfortunately, though, it's the only one of the new Atomiswave conversions that isn't working properly (though it's definitely worth having on your GDI just to check it out). There's a section on stage three that loops endlessly without any enemies spawning. Hopefully after the other conversions are finished and more is understood about what could be going wrong, it'll be sorted.

With all of the advances in online netplay via Bear\NullDC builds, does this mean online KoFXI is a thing?? CvS2 has been getting a lot of traction lately, and while it isn't rollback, it isn't bad by all accounts - and it's a link-heavy game!

It's all very exciting and I am reaaaally considering looking into a MODE or w/e options are available for my model. (Although self-boot CDI images have been popping up for various conversions too, I think that due to the prevalence of SRAM editing to change Service menu settings or remap controls really favors the convenience of just editing and transferring an image.)

MegaVolt has said that he's getting them all out first, then going back to do bug fixes, etc. Which, honestly, is fine with me. And at the rate he's releasing them, it won't be long before they're all out, anyways.

MegaVolt is just doing straight conversions, making the code run on the Dreamcast. I'm sure SOMEONE could hack in online for the folks still loving their Dreamcast broadband adapters, but as of now, sadly not a thing.

Nice! Funnily enough, I'd played through it a month prior to all this Dreamcast porting through Demul. It was pretty solid.
