ASS OUT, IN-SERT - Ring Fit Adventure

Things I learned while Ringfitting:

1. You can jog silently without squatting all the time: just move your legs without lifting your toes. Still counts as jogging and if you need to run, then you'll have to lift your knees.

2. You can get decent exp by either constantly blowing air or vacuuming while jogging even if there isn't anything to hit or hoover. However stop if you need to do a necessary action.

3. Had to play with the sound off because main tv was occupied and other half was asleep in the same room so I managed to do my warm up custom list and a set of planks while carrot farming purely on rumble sound alone. Probably can do a lot more but lack of time prevented me from doing so.

4. A fan goes a long way to help me endure extended periods of play.

I started this yesterday! As someone who used to work out a lot, it's a surprisingly good workout. I was sort of expecting a Wii Fit kind of low impact experience, but I had a good sweat going (I did the first three stages in one go, ending with the first Drageaux fight). I like it!

That ankle twist seems less like exercise and more like "this is where your genitals go."

I wish I didn't have a pulled groin so I could get back into this. Or any other exercise. At least I can still do upper body stuff in general.

Of course, where I am in Ring Fit is...right before Allegra's first all-leg stage.

My four year old niece is going to try it on the weekend. We are hoping it will inspire her to try running more. She seemed to like the test run in Beginnia and was giggling the whole time (first time with a video game that isn't an tablet educational app) but she can't wrap her head around running and place and keeps moving forward.

Went to play this today and my left joycon ran out of battery. I’ve been leaving them in the ring and strap between sessions, whoops.

Yeah, I typically use a pro controller, so I have to remember to charge the joycons from time to time since they mostly just live in the Ring Fit accessories. I've been playing Galaxy using detached joycons recently, though, and it has reminded me that the drift on my left stick is starting to get worse. It's a pain, because if I send them in to get fixed then I can't play Ring Fit until they're back.

Leaving joy-cons to die in Ring Fit accessories (or the grippy things after a Fitness Boxing sesh) is a constant problem for me. Mostly because I bought new a new pair a while ago, and the old ones are used exclusively for those exercise games to keep the new pair safe from the excessive hand-sweat.

The game even tells you to keep them charged 🙂

I imagine it would be a sore spot for me as well, except that I bought a second pair ages ago because my kids kept forgetting to charge them. (Well, that and so we could play 4p.)

I had a shot at using this with my kids a while back and they weren’t into it (“this is just exercise”), but I took another shot today with more success. We tried a few props for them before settling on a couple of toy soccer balls that gave a reasonable squeeziness. They tended to do a little bit of each exercise before taking a rest but got fairly into it, especially the jogging sections. If I can keep their interest then my rate of use of this thing could go way up since it won’t be restricted to after they’re in bed.

One disadvantage was that I let my older daughter do the heart monitor thing after the last course I did for the day, which got her sister very jealous. I wound up going back and doing level 1-1 again to get access to the heart monitor thing again. Twice, because the first time I did it outside of adventure mode and it turns out it doesn’t give you the monitor option after that.

There's a little gap between my entertainment center and one of the TV speakers, I just kinda jam it in there and it's hard to see.

I leave it between the couch and DVD shelf. My guitars also live there, so I know the ring is in good company.

For those who also enjoy the arr pee gee aspect of the game and would like to see a (nearly) complete skill grid. Google knows the last two.

The only problem is then the Tipp's language changes too so instructions for warmup cool down might be hard to understand. They're fairly obvious though.

I have Ring's voice set to feminine German. I kinda got tired of the fake Amethyst voice saying "THREE!"

Weird discovery we made: If you do reps in the offline mode, it's stored in the Ringcon, not the Joycon. We have two Switches and one copy of Ring Fit and accidentally redeemed the other person's reps.

Anyway, we've started doing workouts side-by-side since one person was often just hanging out until the other finished their workout session. We've been alternating whose game we play on. It's fun and I use a physical therapy band as a Ringcon stand-in.

Wait, does that Ringcon actually have data in it? That's really weird, I just assumed it could only function as an extension of the joycon.

Is it normal that I’m overlevelled? My character is about level 50, the stages are saying they’re for level 40 or so. Does this mean I should turn the difficulty up? Or down?

Now that I’m playing with my kids in the room I wish the audio cues were clearer or repeated more often or something. If the kids are making noise and I’m doing something where you have to look away from the screen then I’m often missing the prompt that I’ve done it. Also it’s very annoying to be told to match the speed of the animation when doing the move makes it impossible to see. (Not) looking at you, warrior pose 3. Also didn’t realise I was supposed to straighten my back leg on that one until I’d been doing it a while, for the same reason.

I believe difficulty only changes the reps/duration/intensity of the exercises, not the combat difficulty. It's very easy to get overleveled, but you'll still have to do exercises to defeat enemies, so it's not that big a deal.

I’d rather need to do more different exercises to defeat enemies, but not more reps of each one. I suppose I could unequip attack increasing gear for that. Since my goal isn’t to beat the game but to exercise, I’d rather not blow through it too quickly.
