Animal Crossing General: New Horizons in our New Horizon!

I’m so glad they added most of the missing special characters as Roost guests. They’re not even limited to amiibo, either, I’ve seen Reddit posts of Resetti and Don showing up at the counter randomly.

I naturally used my Resetti figure and dude has calmed waaay down with his new gig, and is trying to stay less angry due to stress. Though if Reddit is to be believed he does have at least one freak-out line, that life should have a reset button. I love you, Resetti.

I've begun staffing my island's various features with Gyroids as I dig them up. Finally, my restaurant makes narrative sense!!

I got an item from an animal who didn’t live on my island, so that definitely happens.

I really like the DLC so far. It straddles a good place between feeling like a separate space while still having goodies to take back into the main game.

I had Reece customize some magazines for me since after all this time I'd still only seen one version, but the other versions still aren't showing up in my catalog. I noticed some items had a ReTail logo when I went to customize things and after playing around a bit it looks like only those show up in the catalog. So that's kind of odd?

Not all of the basic customizations you can do show up in the catalog. For example, the magazine rack will show the kinda woods you've had it colored but not the different magazine types. Same goes for beds; it'll show the frame but not the color of the sheets.

Anyway, the llama symbol means you can have Cyrus do a customization that you yourself can't do, i.e. "Change an object to variations you'd normally have to find on another island".

I put the Night Owl on and still manage to miss the Able Sisters every day, but do actually get into Nook's Cranny before it closes on the regular now. So there's that!

ETA: One of the new K.K. songs is Mongolian throat singing, oh my god

Hopefully one of the minor patches addresses how little of a difference Night Owl makes. Don't have much use for it myself (I'm using Bell Boom right now), but it'd be nice for west coast visitors if they could stop by Adventure and the shops were actually open to them.

Yeah, same with Early Bird. I turned it on and nothing is open before I go to work, which was exactly when I wanted to play. Oh well, Night Owl is fine and I can always shift my Switch's time if I want.

They deliberately made time travel less punitive in this game. I think the only real consequence is that turnips go bad if you travel backwards in time or past their spoil date.

Yep, the week I do the travel any turnips I have would spoil (so hopefully I'm smarter than that) and the market crashes but after that it's fine unless I change again. I had it offset early on in the pandemic due to my work schedule and it was fine. I'm sure there's another game that uses the system clock and would be weird because of that, but it didn't affect anything I play.

i've been enjoying the new update even though i haven't really sat down and started engaging with the cooking or the decorating mechanics and am mostly just doing the daily routine of digging up fossils (for cash), doing a Kapp'n Tour, and checking the shops/Co-Op.

I keep forgetting about Kapp'n. I've only done the tour where I found Brewster. But similarly I don't think I've had a block of time to play the game, it's been short stints after my lunch break or before work or dinner or whatever. Should have time this week though, burning some PTO days.

The Kapp'n tours are nice and there are some special islands with stuff you can't get from regular tours, but there are also a bunch of plain islands where the only real difference is the guaranteed gyroid fragment on each one. Which, don't get me wrong, is still more than enough reason for me to go every day.

At the very least islands can differ in terms of what season they are, so you can catch some things you normally couldn't.

The shop "expansion" comes in the form of the Paradise Planning office in the DLC, which offers an additional 5 items per day. (Albeit purchased with Poki which you earn from designing homes, rather than bells.)

Spoiler on the HHN shop: eventually Wardell will let you use Poki to order from a catalog of items you’ve used in designs, with some exceptions (similar to Nook Shopping Network). That’s… a pretty huge incentive to play the DLC!

Is it specifically items you've actually placed in houses, or just items that were available to you to place? Because if it's the former, this is going to become my new design aesthetic:

It's the latter. If it's a furniture item, wallpaper, or floor that you've unlocked in Happy Home Paradise that you could potentially order with Bells over in Nook Shopping, you can order it with Poki.
