I love all of my friends. When you take photos of them all the time, you get attached.
But I also like to have new models for Photopia and Amiibo cards are still pretty dang pricey if you wanna do things legit, so...
Five new friends over the past month. Beardo, Merengue, Tia, Camofrog, and Mint all left for New Horizons so Audie, Simon, Raymond, Maple, and Fuchsia could join us.

I had a cicada shell drought for a while but after reorganizing my trees I've found like three. Still looking for a fourth (one for the museum, three for a model).
The only bug I'm missing from this season is the golden stag. And it's one of only two bugs I'm missing altogether.

Still just had one cicada shell, no golden stags, and I'm short a couple other beetles. But I've been playing a lot less in the second half of the month.
But it's fine, once we hit March my self-imposed time travel ban will be up and I'll get those bugs then.

I haven't really been touching the game regularly for about a month or more, so I think I've resigned myself, or at least embraced apathy about, not getting all the beetles before the month is up.
Just saying that out loud gives me a twitch though, but frankly I never feel like I have the energy to actually do any of the big changes I want to make to my island or house, and staring at them as they are only serves as annoying reminders of that, so I think I'm ready for a break.
I am sad I missed all but the first bobbly antenna hats from the fireworks, though. Are those catalog orderable? D:

I wish you could just give people bugs and things; I haven't had a particularly hard time with cicada shells.
And is there any way to know what you're missing without a guide?

Seriously. You can give everything else! And you can look at the app on your nook phone and see gaps in your collection but without a guide you won't know what they are.
Spent an hour or so on a stripped down island. Finally got my cicada shell. I'll be doing it again at 5 pm for the Golden Stag and Horned Hercules and then again at 11 pm tonight for scarab beetle and giant stag.

One of the recent Judge John Hodgman episodes was about a couple arguing over Animal Crossing. Goes down a rabbit hold into a discussion of Capitalism and has a lot of great moment.
So I spent like... two hours last night trying to farm the last few beetles I was missing. And I managed to get at least one of all of them, including a horned hercules and a couple giraffes, which I hadn't managed to get before.
But GOLDEN STAGS!
Golden stags. My nemesis. I might have scared one off, but I'm not sure because I've never known for certain I was looking at one, they are so rare for me. The only times I've thought I might be seeing one was as something was flying off before I got a good look at it. Next year I guess.

I managed to catch a giant stag late last night (never saw the scarab or the golden stag) and then because it was so late. I accidentally ended up setting it free instead of the giant water bug that I wanted to let free...
So I guess I'll complete my bug library next time this year, maybe?

On more than one occasion during my own Golden Stag hunts I considered hitting the video capture button so I could get a better look at whatever just flew away, but I generally decided against torturing myself like that.
I've been staunchly against Time Traveling since the game came out, but if I ever dive fully back into playing I'll probably excuse myself to travel back to months to catch bugs and I missed. I'm not thrilled about waiting 10-11 months for the particular brand of already-a-pain-to-find beetles to reappear.
I'm hoping catching the bell cricket isn't end up as difficult to catch as all the stags and beetles were last month.
I think I noted it on the old board, but I have a strict no-time-travel rule until the game's been out a year.

On the one hand, it's weird not having Al here. I considered him expendable for basically forever, but the guy was amazing in photo shoots and he was one of my frequent go-to models. He will be missed.
But on the other hand...
It's pretty awesome having three wolves, even if I do have two snooty doggos now. I'm thrilled to have Freya, Audie, and Vivian in Adventure.
Went on way too many trips to find her (was looking for Del or Ankha), but I wasn't about to turn her down.
Also got Rooney on the way to fill my empty cranky spot for now. He asked for Nibbles at the campsite without me even having to reroll. I'll miss having her in Adventure, but using her in shoots is just a matter of taking the Joy-Cons out and scanning her Amiibo so I don't mind.
But on the other hand...
