Alternate Covers

Aging Hipster Dragon Dad
So two things.

First off, for the past year or so my son has been wanting to get into my Switch game covers and use them as chew toys (hopefully he’ll be growing out of that soon...). Most notably, the cover art slips for Breath of the Wild, Mega Man 11, Dragon Quest 11 S, and Fire Emblem Warriors have taken some serious damage.

Secondly, however, my wife recently bought a fancy high quality color printer for her work, and I had an idea. Buy some glossy paper and print off some new covers. My initial exploring for cover shows that finding files for the outside seems easy, but finding the inside art is harder, let alone find both together in a single file that is properly formatted so it will print on both side of the paper properly aligned and everything. Given I may not be able to restore the covers to their original factory state, I was curious about alternate.

So long story short, here is a thread to post alternate cover images you like.

For starters, I like this one for Breath of the Wild. The front is basically the standard art, but it wraps around back and adds some more art (not sure if I’m linking to imgur right..):

What's Shenmue?
Custom covers are great fun. I've printed out ones for games with particularly lacklustre covers, like Ico and Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, or to maintain design consistency within a series, like Ace Attorney. I've also moved most of my GBA games into DS cases, with covers to match. I don't really do it any more, though, because I find the process of printing and cutting to be fairly tedious. But every now and then I find a new project.

A while ago, I bought a copy of Cookie & Cream DS off of eBay. It was a loose cart, which wasn't ideal, but I had a few empty DS cases around, so I figured I could just put it in there and find a scan of the cover online to print out. But then after checking the usual sites for that, it turned out that nobody had actually uploaded a scan of it. So it was up to me to make my own.

Here's what I came up with:

It bears zero resemblance to the actual cover (aside from the text), and is instead a mélange of elements from the Japanese and European releases, DS and PS2, covers and manuals. It's probably for the best that it came without a cover, because I think this is a significant improvement (not to pat myself on the back… too much).

And now it sits neatly among the rest of my DS games. :)
