AestheticallyPleasingAnimalsDome - survival of the fairest

It is time. Let's get right into it.

Match #1:
Instead of a pair of owls a pair of Als have entered this match - Alex and his pick of the Alpaca. They're facing off against me and my pick of the
Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrel. (Note: I privately talked to Alex about providing image links that show more of the animal which is why I'm using a different image than the one that's in the nominations thread.)

Match #2:
But now we do actually have an owl, as Daikaiju's choice of the Great Horned Owl is squaring off with Kirin's pick of the Maned Wolf.

Here's the bracket:

I tried to make sure everyone's picks were evenly distributed and that they had an equal number of byes and preliminary matches. But the number of entrants didn't really allow that so two people were randomly selected to have 3 preliminary matches. And that wound up being me and Kirin. (Sorry, Kirin.)

Guess I better get my votes in then, for a Dwarf Flying Wolf in this case (which would be adorable and terrifying).

I do also love the other two entrants, but I suspect that’ll be true in every single round so it seems like it’ll be superfluous to say so…

Tail of the Tape:
Hailing from South America is the Alpaca (Lama pacos), a domesticated camelid bred for their wool. They stand between 2'8" and 3'3" (80-100 cm) at the withers (shoulders) and weigh between 100 and 200 pounds (50-90 kg).

And from the sub-alpine forests and boreal evergreen forests of Japan is the Japanese Dwarf Flying Squirrel (Pteromys momonga). This small squirrel is 5.5-8 inches (15-20 cm) long with a tail that ranges from 4-5.5 inches (10-15 cm). P. momonga is one of our lighter entrants, only weighing between 5-8 ounces (150-220 grams).

Coming from the Americas but mostly in the North is the Great horned owl (Bubo virginianus). B. virginianus has a body length between 17-25 inches (43-64 cm) with a wingspan of 3-5 feet (90-150 cm). On average males weigh 2 lbs 11 ounces and females are 30% heavier.

Coming from the other hemisphere in the same continent is the Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) of South America. C. brachyurus is the largest canine of its continent, weighing between 45 and 64 lbs (20-30) kg and standing up to 3'7" (110 cm) at their withers.

I do also love the other two entrants, but I suspect that’ll be true in every single round so it seems like it’ll be superfluous to say so…
Yes, they're all goods dogs ... and cats... and birds... and more, Brant Kirin.

That squirrel is cute but the alpaca is an aesthetic animal.

and while it feels bad to vote against an owl I got to go with that stilty boy

Results pending. Continuing with the next matches

Match #3:
You'll definitely be seeing red for our next match as the Red Panda (picked by Mogri) goes up against the varying amounts of red coloration of the eclectus parrots. These parrots were picked by Paul.

Match #4:
Our next match is not only wild but also wet as Alex's pick of the ocean-dwelling Beluga Whale faces off with Johnny's pick of the amphibious Axolotl.

Japanese dwarf flying squirrel and great horned owl are moving on.

Matches 3 & 4, Tail of the Tape:
Representing the eastern Himalayas and southwestern China is the red panda (Ailurus fulgens). They have a head-to-body length of 20-25 inches (50-64 cm) and sport an 11-19 inch (28-48 cm) tail. Most of them weigh between 7 and 33 pounds (3-15 kg).

Hailing from all regions of Oceania (but New Guinea and Australia in particular) is the eclectus parrot (genus Eclectus). These birds measure about 14-17 inches (35-40 cm) in length. They also have the unusual trait of reverse sexual dichromatism with both sexes have differential coloration. Males are mostly green, with bright red underwings, blue primaries, and a yellow beak, while females are bright red with a blue underbelly and black beak.

Swimming from the Arctic and the sub-Arctic is the beluga whale (Delphinapterus leucas). The beluga is our largest competitor with males growing up to 18 feet long (5.5 m) and weighing up to 3,500 pounds (1,600 kg).

From Mexico we have the axolotl (Ambystoma mexicanum). Adults range in length from 6 to 18 inches (15-45 cm) but are most commonly 9 inches (23 cm) long. Axolotls are a type of salamander with a rare (but not unique trait) - they are amphibians but they remain aquatic even after maturing.
