I've seen people claiming it is helping people in countries like Argentina where hyper inflation is a problem.

This ignores the fact the blockchain, by design, gives us an immutable record of financial transactions of crypto currencies readily available, and they show no unusual volume of crypto transactions or owners coming from Argentina or similar struggling countries relative to their populations.

Maybe anecdotally, but there is no evidence of a widespread trend of it.
