May 4th is here, and with it comes the first episode of Bad Batch on D+.

The first episode is 71mins long... 👀

It was an ok thing. I haven't come close to seeing all of Clone Wars, but I didn't really feel like I was missing anything important.

There's a lot of rough edges on this cartoon, similar to my Clone Wars criticisms, but none of them are that big a deal and it's fundamentally a kids show and does a good job of being one.

You will probably need to click the video title for this to work; the embedded player probably won't play nicely and the video is cued up to start at a specific point (56:00 into the video)

I enjoyed the Bad Batch premiere. The immediate aftermath of the fall of the Republic is an interesting period to explore.

Also, pretty impressed at Dee Bradley Baker managing to voice five characters who sound different, despite all having the same basic voice.

They also brought back Ian McDirmand for ol’ Sheevy Palps! Or else they were reusing dialogue from RotS.
Either way, it’s one of the rare (only?) instance where Tim Curry is a downgrade

From the article, I doesn't read like it was "thanks" to the acquisition, but rather that real-life got in the way, and then it missed its window of opportunity? Still sucks though, since it sounds like a much better alternative to the actual Princess Leia miniseries we got.

Quick couple of questions about Bad Batch for those of you who are better versed in Star Wars lore than I am:

1) Is the planet they're going to at the end of episode 1 supposed to be significant or nah?
2) This little girl is 100% probably a clone of a Jedi, and knowing the tiny universe of Star Wars where everyone knows everyone, it's someone we know, so what's the best bet?

I’m not expecting much more than Girl Boba Fett as of yet.

And given all the other Filoni Star Wars’, I’m also expecting her to become one of my favourite characters overall within a season or two.

Having watched the pilot episode last night, I gotta say that this is the first time that a Clone Wars cartoon has made me feel invested in what's going on. Honestly wasn't expecting that.

While I don't think you're necessarily wrong on that point, I feel like the fact that the new girl is voiced by a New Zealander makes it really obvious who she's a clone of.

I guess that would be possible, but that’s not usually how cloning works. It just seemed like the show was coding her for being force sensitive.
However cloning usually works, they are very obviously both coding her as Force-sensitive AND as a female Jango clone. She senses emotions and knows Crosshairs is at the door with troops before it opens. All of them have an unusual trait, aside from the cosmetic; this is hers.

Yeah, the Kaminoan lady said there were five remaining enhanced clones, and Echo isn't one. Omega is the fifth.

Why didn’t Crosshairs’ chip fail like everyone else’s? We’re his mutations just that much less drastic than everyone else’s?

Also, by sheer coincidence, I’d watched the Clone Wars arc about defective Order 66 Chips just that morning.

The episodes were written years apart, but it’s kind of weird that the Kaminoans went from being incredibly secretive and obsessive about the chips, to not really giving a dang that they made a bunch of Super Troopers that the chips are useless on.

It still bothers me a lot that the Jedi in general were completely thrown off guard by the clone army's betrayal, when just the idea of the clone army to begin with should have been a red alert stop everything maybe we're the baddies kind of moment for the Jedi Council. Like, hey, creating a slave army is *really bad* maybe don't do that! And follow up that research of why there even is a clone army to begin with. Maybe twist some arms and learn about the control chips and exactly what they do years before they go haywire on you.

That last point actually is raised in that episode I mentioned; they know about the chips, but are shown that they’re to prevent the Clone Troopers from experiencing PTSD and discourage them from going off-mission, and none of the Jedi thought to ask if they had any kind of secret Evil reason to exist.

The rest of the points stand, including “the Jedi kinda suck”

I think Crosshair's particular deviation, his sheer devotion to single focusing tasks (note, in the mess hall fight, he keeps eating), made him closer to the "regs" and therefore more susceptible.

"Master Kenobi found this army created in secret by a mysteriously vanished [or dead? I forget] Jedi, and they're all clones based off of a bounty hunter who tried to have a Senator killed."

"Use them for our own ends, we must! Question them, we won't. Trust them implicitly, we will. Useul cannon fodder, they are. Mweee-hee-hee-hee!"

Meanwhile, Sheev's over in the corner going "Damn it's super lucky that there was a Jedi Master who had a name that sounded conveniently like my Sith alias and had a habit of going poking around corners of the galaxy where I could have him disappeared instead of just chilling on Coruscant with the rest of them. If it wasn't for that I'd have been totally hosed. Utter non-starter."

To be fair to Yoda, he didn't trust them enough to put his safety in their hands.
No, just the safety of the rest of the Jedi order and visa vis the Republic.

Meanwhile, how Yoda couldn't sense Palpy's obviously ominous intent is beyond baffling.

And I know Mace Windu is a badass, but maybe don't send basically just him to go apprehend your suspected Sith Lord? Maybe some backup is in order?

How did someone as dumb as Anikin manage to keep his love affair secret for years?

Oh no, I thought about Star Wars too hard :(

Mace had backup but they may as well have not even been there because Sheev light-shanked them all in a matter of moments.
