I'm looking forward to Disney putting it up on Disney+ this holiday season.

This isn't actually going to happen but it would be fucking hilarious wouldn't it.

They're doing a Lego Star Wars X-Mas special this year. No word yet on Wookie Life Days or Bea Arthur.

I went in to it just last year with a heart full of joy, reasonable expectations, and the full knowledge that I am Octo, and judge things by that standard

And yeah... it's... rough.

I'll say this of the Special; Bea Arthur doesn't know or care what a Star War is but I think she is trying in her role as "singing Tatooine cantina owner". Of course that scene is also trying but with a different definition of the word.

With some extensive editing, honestly, it would have been pretty solid.

But instead, they did the opposite of editing and padded out everything past the point of enjoyment and also had an extended music video with Chewbacca uncle enjoying a VR porno

Hey. HEY. The Star Was Christmas Special gave us our first look at Boba Fett (for whatever that's worth).

Which would pay off in such dividends as not being allowed to disintegrate people, standing around, picking up his daddy's head and wackily falling to his death. That last one might actually be worth it.

Also getting 3/4s of an actual character arc in the Clone Wars cartoon before the writers got bored with him and decided to resurrect Darth Maul for shits and giggles.

Just his helmet, actually. If you watch the scene closely you can see the shadow of Jango's head falling out of his helmet when he's decapitated.

But yeah, outside of the expanded universe Boba Fett is basically just a guy with cool armor and a cool ship who got done in by wacky cartoon antics.

There was in fact another pre-Empire Strikes Back appearance of Boba Fett, in the Star Wars daily newspaper strip. He ends upp getting defeated by a magnet. So it's definitely true to his character.

In a segment animated by Canadian animation studio Nelvana! They would go on to squander the opportunity afforded by such a plum job by making Rock & Rule.

Nelvana also worked on the first Star Wars animated series, Droids and Ewoks.

Weird fact (that's getting further afield of the topic), Nelvana was also working on a Doctor Who cartoon for a time.

In retrospect, I have to give ESB props for the scene that sells Vader as terrifyingly powerful, even if it is mostly in retrospect. In the 40 years since the film's release, practically every Force-user waves their hands around when doing the telekinesis trick. Yoda does. Dooku does. Ahsoka does. Palpatine does. Kylo Ren does. Everyone waves their hands around.

When he's fighting Luke on Bespin, Vader is just standing there hurling shit around with his brain.

I appreciate Rogue One for backing up his power in that area further, though he does wave his hand a bit in that one.

There's a fun bit in Jedi: Fallen Order where you're trying to run from Vader and he's just tearing up the bridge you're running on. Then later you blow a hole in the submerged walkway you're in so you can escape and he uses the Force to just hold the water back.
