1) What magazines have you had subscriptions to?
2) Where do you work out?
3) Which video game shoot 'em up would make the best movie?
4) What would be your 90s-style hacker name?
5) Which is your favourite basketball player?
1) He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra: Princess of Power, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Garfield (I think on those last two; might have just gotten them at the grocery store), Nintendo Power, Game Players, Ultra Game Players, Game Buyer, PSM... and I guess technically Nintendo Force and Mega Visions, though those were more comps. Oh, and I just got a cheap sub to Retro Gamer a few months ago... I should check in on that.
2) On my sofa.
3) Contra
4) I came up with this one in the '90s, will it suffice?
5)

Olli

(he/him)
1) What magazines have you had subscriptions to?

A generic local gaming magazine Pelit and a popular science magazine Tiede at least. Also the sci-fi zine Tähtivaeltaja.
2) Where do you work out?
Mostly at home and outside these days. I'd love to get back to a gym, though, maybe for a cycling class.
3) Which video game shoot 'em up would make the best movie?
Oof, this is a tough one, because I can't think of many that would be any good. Sunset Riders?
4) What would be your 90s-style hacker name?
Mad Cow
5) Which is your favourite basketball player?
Jordan or Joonas Suotamo

4) What would be your 90s-style hacker name?
5) Which is your favourite basketball player?
1)Our family had a National Geographic subscription I would always flip through for cool pictures. Older, I had a subscription to Wizard Magazine, which used to be my favourite but most of it, especially the jokes, aged poorly (see also Toyfare).
2) YMCA and when the weather is better, just running outside. Oh, and Ringfit.
3) Lifeforce. That's the one that took place inside a space monster, right? That seems cool.
4) Fuseburn. Not even a term, I don't think.
5)

This guy is just the worst. That's why he's the best. He's a hard worker but will also cajole a shoesalesman into selling him Air Jordans for 500 yen.

2) If you were a genie, where would you live?
3) Which beat-em-up would you most like to live in?

1. A New Hope is the one I’m Not able to be objective about. I recognize that other ones are better, but that’s not what you asked
2. Jansport backpack
3. I’m struggling to think of one where my life span wouldn’t be measured in minutes. I guess Scott Pilgrim vs. the World?
4. In terms of the fruit itself, nanners. In terms of Real Fruit Flavor, oranges
5. Will Smith Greatest Hits

SET #1
1.) What is the ‘80s-est song?
"Time After Time," by Cyndi Lauper.

2.) What’s the best condiment for French fries?
Garlic aioli, although malt vinegar is no slouch.

3.) Suppose that your name was going to be used as a unit of measurement (like the volt, the watt, the pascal, the gauss, etc.) What would it be a measure of?
This one already got determined for me, actually. When I was in my MA program, my friends used to use my last name as a measure of the spiciness of food.

4.) If there were a triband flag of you, what colors would it use and in what order? Vertical or horizontal?
Horizontal. From top to bottom, royal blue, forest green, white.

5.) What’s your favorite body of water? Fictional ones count.
Lake Michigan.

SET #2
1) What magazines have you had subscriptions to?
In rough chronological order, Discover, Nintendo Power, Scientific American, my undergrad university alumni magazine, the Journal of the American Academy of Religion, Zygon, and my Ph.D. university alumni magazine.

2) Where do you work out?
Until relatively recently I used to have a subscription to a local gym, but I finally got real and admitted to myself that (1) I hated exercising while masked and (2) I wasn't going to feel comfortable being in a gym while unmasked for the foreseeable future. So, these days I exercise at home and on a path that runs by a local canal.

3) Which video game shoot 'em up would make the best movie?
Are we using the strict, videogame-centric definition of shoot-'em-up? If so, Fantasy Zone. If we're including FPS's, Half Life.

4) What would be your 90s-style hacker name?
dark_blue

5) Which is your favourite basketball player?
Steve Kerr. I get a kick out of the fact that he's a really successful coach now.

SET #3
1) Which is your favourite Star Wars movie?
The Last Jedi. I'm tempted to say more, but at times like this I have to remind myself of my rule: I will discuss politics on the Internet. I will discuss religion on the Internet. I will not discuss Star Wars on the Internet.

2) If you were a genie, where would you live?
In an old book.

3) Which beat-em-up would you most like to live in?
I gotta go with Octo here: Scott Pilgrim seems like most livable of the available options.

4) What is your most eaten fruit?
Apples. Grapes are probably second.

5) What's the earliest rap album you remember getting into?
If we're counting trip-hop as rap, Massive Attack's "Mezzanine." Otherwise, "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill."

Olli

(he/him)
1) Which is your favourite Star Wars movie?
The Mandalorian. It counts as a movie if you watch it all in one go, right?
2) If you were a genie, where would you live?
An empty paper towel roll.
3) Which beat-em-up would you most like to live in?
Guacamelee
4) What is your most eaten fruit?
Has to be either apples or bananas.
5) What's the earliest rap album you remember getting into?
Public Enemy's Muse Sick-n-Hour Mess Age was the first one I bought. It wasn't exactly an easy way into the genre, but it worked?

3) Which beat-em-up would you most like to live in?
4) What is your most eaten fruit?
5) What's the earliest rap album you remember getting into?
1) Rogue One, probably, followed by A New Hope.
2) Coca-Cola bottle. Preferably a full one that never empties.
3) TMNT.
4) Waaaaaaanna say watermelon? But I'm not certain. Seems most likely, though.
5) Big Willie Style.

3) Which beat-em-up would you most like to live in?
4) What is your most eaten fruit?
5) What's the earliest rap album you remember getting into?
1) The Last Jedi, maybe? I'm way too far removed from the classic trilogy, mostly because the lack of original cuts make me less interested in watching it.
2) Container of ice cream. Something with chocolate and peanut butter.
3) Spider-Man, so I can meet Spider-Man (and Namor, I guess, if I have to).
4) Apples
5) Young MC, Stone Cold Rhymin'. My sister made the Columbia Records club error but she got a bunch of tapes and CDs and this got a lot of play in the car as a kid. Bust a Move was the breakout song but the Fresh Prince-esque Principal's Office and the quintessentially 80s "Just Say No" lives on forever in my brain.

3. Nope
4. YMCA is the only one that springs to mind, so it wins by default
5. Blades for aesthetics, but Skates for the fact that I have terrible balance

1) What's a good name for a coven?
I can't decide between calling a coven Tree Carol or calling it witch.io

2) Which fighting game do you feel doesn't get enough love?
I'm afraid I don't know much about fighting games beyond Street Fighter, and I certainly am not up on Fighting Game Discourse.

3) Do you have any trophies?

I still have a few trophies from my high school Battle of the Brains/It's Academic/Quiz Bowl years that I keep because of nostalgia.

4) What's your favourite Village People song?

I really like their tribute to everyone's favorite cryptid, Mothman:

5) Rollerblades or roller skates?
I'd fall and break something if I tried either of them, but the '90s were pretty formative for me, so I'll say rollerblades.

Johnny Unusual

(He/Him)
1) Autumn Chill. Also a great SiriusXM channel.
2) Jump Ultimate Stars for the DS is easily the best Shonen Jump fighting game and the best Smash Bros. Clone, particularly in it's system of using a comic grid to assign usable characters, summons and buffs is great.
3) No. I did get a button for a "don't watch TV" week but broke it out of shame because I accidentally did watch a little TV that week without thinking.
4)
5) I guess blades but I don't know if I ever tried classic skates.

1) They'll probably need to operate in secret, so how about "Duck & Coven"?
2) TMNT Tournament Fighters on SNES.
3) As a matter of fact...
4)
5) Whatever, I can't use either. I guess I prefer blades from a stylistic perspective, though.

1. Regardless of if it’s “only one breed of animal shows up”, or “the town is bereft of all life but for one animal” or “town is inhabited by humans and one bespoke critter” the answer is “Friendly Dog”
2. Movies; Thor, Comics; Cap
3. Got a bad back and two kids
4. I reheated some cold pizza, that counts
5. Some kinda fish monster

1) Cats
2) Iron Man, at least in the movies. And cartoons. And some comics.
3) I only assume we have neighbors.
4) ...I honestly don't know. Microwaved some leftover Chinese food earlier, but I doubt that's what you mean.
5) Probably in my Movie Mario costume, or some other cosplay.

Olli

1) If you were a mayor of a town inhabited by only one type of animal, what would it be?
Dog
2) Which is your favourite Avenger?
The Hulk, although it depends a bit on what flavor he's currently on.
3) What do you know about your next door neighbors?
Their last names, presumably.
4) What's the last thing you cooked?
A tomato-based Orzo soup. It's my first time trying Orzo, it turned out alright.
5) If you owned a mannequin, how would you dress it?
Sherlock Holmes.

1) If you were a mayor of a town inhabited by only one type of animal, what would it be?
Under my benevolent leadership, Owltown would be a peaceful, prosperous, and above all quiet place.

2) Which is your favourite Avenger?
I am a Comics N00b, so I only really know the MCU, but Chris Evans’s Cap took a character I’d always kind of rolled my eyes at and made him one of my favorite superheroes.

3) What do you know about your next door neighbors?
My current next door neighbors moved in relatively recently, and I haven’t really interacted with them yet, but my neighbor across the hall is an elderly Englishwoman whose son works in China.

4) What's the last thing you cooked?
The last thing I actually made, as opposed to just heated up, was tacos with a chorizo-chickpea filling.

5) If you owned a mannequin, how would you dress it?
I’d put the largest, most extravagant hat I could find on its head, and call it done.

1) Gentlemen, welcome to Pugopolis.
2) She-Hulk. Frankly, I made this question to see if anyone would say "Emma Peel" or "John Steed"
3) Very little. One pre-pandemic night I asked them politely to keep it down when I was seriously ill and NEEDED to sleep. They used to party a lot but I never minded but this was a rough night for me. And they were kind enough to do so.
4) A seafood mixture with veggies and cream sauce.
5) Like a Jojo character. Not a specific one, just something cool yet impractical.

1) Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of men?By this point in history, I would have thought it was pretty obvious to everyone.

2) Do you wear any rings?
I wear a simple, white gold wedding band.

3) Which is your favourite Egyptian god?
I go back and forth between Ptah and Amun—I like the big, old, mysterious ones.

4) What kind of aircraft would you like to own?
The movie itself wasn’t really anything to write home about, but I liked the bubble ship from the Tom Cruise movie Oblivion:
dana-klaren-bubbleship151a.jpg

5) What was the last school you attended?
Boston University for my Ph.D. We’re probably priced out of the city now, but I miss living in Boston every day.

3) Much like how I spend them now: sleeping.
4) Iron Man, I think?
5) Disney's Aladdin

1. What is your ideal toilet like?
Clean, calm, soundproof.
2. How often do you play video games?
It varies wildly. Sometimes daily, other times weeks pass between sessions.
3. If you were a vampire, how would you spend your days?
In a coffin. Can't go wrong with a classic approach.
4. What's the last VR game you've played?
I haven't played more than a handful anyway; the last one was an edutainment "this is what it feels like to be in a trench during a war" simulation in a museum.
5. What's your favourite musical?
Ooh, this is a tough one. I'll go with West Side Story with the power of the recent remake.
