A Comprehensive List of Video Games Where You Play as a Little Frog

Octopus Prime

Mystery Contraption
(He/Him)
Frogs! Those Little Wet Jumpers have fascinated humanity since the first Caveman looked at the night sky and wondered "I wonder if there's a little squishy dog that eats bugs?". Now, at last, in our incredible present day, we know that the scientific answer answer is "Yes! Frogs are that!" and what greater way to commemorate out little pals than by putting them in video games?

TRICK QUESTION! THERE IS NO BETTER WAY.

Here's some Frogs that Made the... *jump* from Real Life to Video Art:

No less as illustrious resource as the Chrono Trigger Fandom Wiki describes Frog as "Frog (カエル, Kaeru) is a knight and the deuteragonist from the Middle Ages in Chrono Trigger. His real name was Glenn (グレン, Guren)."

I just wanted to talk about one Frog, but Frogger has FIVE of them! What an incredible savings, in this, the year of our Lord, 2025!

Even that incredible jumping man himself knows to respect the true king of jumping around on stuff! Looking sharp, Mario, but when it comes to jumping, you're no Frog.

A small child is certainly no Super Mario, but he also knows the benefits of dressing like a frog in order to jump on stuff after you ply them with candy!

Are Frogs Toads? It's impossible to say for sure, and everyone we've asked has thrown a rock at us for asking. But let's look at the facts; he Jumps Good; he's Wet, he's green *sounds like a classic frog to me*.

It's supposed to be a wizards curse, but I don't know how anyone could complain about being a Frog! It's a wonderful KNIGHT for hopping and eating bugs!

Frog is a brave knight who is also a large anthropomorphic frog-man. Frog was once Glenn, a squire of considerable swordsmanship acknowledged by his knight and best friend Cyrus. When Cyrus was killed by the fiendlord Magus, Glenn bore witness and was transformed into a giant frog and left for dead. Surviving, he would feel shame and self-loathing for not being able to save his friend, he exiled himself from his kingdom and lived alone in the Cursed Wood. Eventually he meet time travelers Crono and his friends, who needed his help to save one of their own. Frog soon proved his worth, would regain his self-respect and would soon join the team in an effort to save the world from a great evil.

Frog is our first individual Chrono Trigger member to rank and he’s a good one. The character has what you want from your JRPG party member; interesting look, tragic back story and fun play set. He’s definitely my personal favourite of the team and the one that comes to mind first when I think of the game. I do have a fondness for characters who are sensitive souls trapped in monstrous bodies (see also Marvel’s the Thing) and I think he really stands out visually from the rest of the cast.

Frogmonster is a Metroid Prime-like with the exception that it has challenging combat mechanics expressed through a huge number of immensely creative bosses that are the highlight of the production. Excellent voxel-based visuals give it a lot of character.

Seriously, if anyone here hasn't played Kero Blaster, but is a fan of oldschool, 2d shooters, play it. I normally don't like these games that much, but this one is a blast. I think many people here are probably right in the target audience.

The Frog Detective trilogy is a series of good-natured and sincere detective fiction yarns starring the titular detective frog. Short games, funny writing, great genre spoofs.

Frogatto & Friends; free short-ish version, longer paid version on Steam. I loved the free version 10 years ago before the Steam version came out, so give it a shot!
Frog Bog/Frogs & Flies for the Intellivision and Atari 2600, noteworthy for only needing one button to play
Mega Man Soccer, notably the only playable appearance of Toad Man. And a lot of other robots! He's not even a unit in Rockman Strategy. Boo! Even Aqua Man gets to be in that game!
Mega Man Battle Chip Challenge: You can be ToadMan.EXE! And a lot of other NetNavis! A frog comprised entirely of data has to be about as small as it gets.

I have! But I'm pretty terrible at it, so I haven't gotten very far. I can say that moving around might take some getting used to: you can only jump to a spot that's either directly opposite or diagonally across from where you're currently positioned (think bouncing from wall to wall in Rocket Knight, except in turn-based form), and you can only jump so far (no jumping to a spot across the screen for you, mister!). This, in turn, can make positioning yourself to take out an enemy or avoid an attack a might bit tricky, but the tactically-minded sort can still find a good time. You can also throw your sword and stop time (that second one requires you to kill a few dudes to charge it up).

It's kinda like if Dandara and Hoplite had a baby and gave it frog DNA.
