As always, I want to first thank everyone who has ever nominated a book, read a book, or participated in one of our discussions. Thank you. You've made this a real enjoyable experience.

Throughout the year we read 10 books. We take July and December off. This is our list for 2025:

January - The Year of the Hare by Arto Paasilinna (@Olli)
February - The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler (@Paul le Fou)
March - What Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher (@lincolnic)
April - The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka (@Falselogic)
May - The Book of George by Kate Greathead (@Falselogic)
June - I Heard Her Call My Name by Lucy Sante (@lincolnic)
August - Hyperion by Dan Simmons (@Paul le Fou)
September - Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir (@Baudshaw)
October - The Black Girl Survives in This One by Desiree Evans (@Violentvixen)
November - Overstory by Richard Powers (@Violentvixen)

I'll be making a new thread for each book/month and linking to them here. I don't think anyone minds if you get your reading in early but please don't begin discussing the book until the month has started and let's keep spoilers out of discussion until the last two weeks or so of a month?

If you recommended one of these books and you've got a specific edition or version that you think is great please mention it and link it here if possible. Otherwise I look forward to reading with you all in 2025!

Looks like a great list for next year. Thanks for doing all the organizational work once again! Excited to get started in January.

@Falselogic random request, but since The Black Girl Survives in This One is horror, could it be the October book? Unless The Book of George is horror too (I'm unfamiliar)?

Anyway, I went through my library and they have every book on here (there are a couple I already own but wanted to check). But for those of you who use the library it might be worth checking and maybe putting a hold on something. My library already has long hold lists for Parable of the Sower, Project Hail Mary and Overstory for example. Thankfully I already own or have read those but worth noting.

I think that's a great idea!

can’t find Hare, but there is a physical+ audiobook version of Sower!

Just wanted to give folks a heads up that my choice for June, I Heard Her Call My Name, may have a bit of a waitlist if you're trying to get a copy from the library. If you're planning on doing that it's worth checking and maybe placing a hold now. My own library has 11 people currently waiting, so I just put my own hold in!

Quick reminder that there is not book club for next month. I hope you all enjoy your summer vacation!

Ooh thank you for the reminder. Also looks like the August book Hyperion is almost 500 pages long so I might get an early start on that one...

My other book club is picking their 2026 books so thought I should bring that up here. It's always hard to narrow down but I would of course like to do book club again next year!

It is on the to-do list for this month! Thank you for the reminder!

The November thread, and our last for 2025, is open.

I just wanted to take a quick moment to thank everyone who participated this year. Thank you for your nominations, thank you for reading along with us, thank you for posting your thoughts and comments. I hope you all get as much joy out of this as I have.
Thanks right back to you for organizing this year after year -- I've read a bunch of books so far that I wouldn't have picked up on my own or otherwise even known about, and it's really become something I look forward to at the start of every month.

I also want to thank you Falselogic! I also look forward to it every month, and it challenges me to read outside my usual sources.
