Masters of the Universe: Revelation

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
It’s for people who were kids when the original show aired and wanted more of that, but with a hard PG rating now.

Give or take some cybernetic bodyhorror.

SpoonyBard

Threat Rhyme
(He/Him)
I would have liked a few more moments like Skeletor being initially batted aside by the Sorceress, yes.

Octopus Prime

Mysterious Contraption
(He/Him)
He wasn’t voiced by Stephen Root however, so one instance of him talking is far more noteworthy than the other

Is there any news on when the other half of the season is airing?

Seriously, I like He-Man and all but it's good that this new show focuses more on characters other than He-Man. His name may be on the title of the 80s show but it's still the Masters of the Universe.

It's good to see other characters get the spotlight...especially Teela, who had some interesting plot threads in the old 80s show that never got to go anywhere (The episode where she learned more about her origins also stupidly wiped her memory at the end to reset the status quo of her not being one of the three named characters (not counting Cringer) who knows who He-Man is).

I’m laughing now, thinking about the people upset about the previous He-Man cartoon. I was sympathetic to complaints about Thundercats Roar because trying to rebottle the lightning of Teen Titans Go with a more niche IP just seemed like a dumb idea to me. After having to listen to IRL friends complain about Teela looking too butch and other trivial nonsense in an otherwise faithful continuation of the 80s series for weeks, however, all I got to say is enjoy your Fortnite He Man.

i just started watching this last night, and i absolutely love it. I love the magic vs tech, i love the dungeon crawling adventure feel, i *love* teela and her midlife awakening, undercut, and complete badassery. I want to play games set in this world, and i want to see more stories about these people. I went in with zero expectations and came out completely charmed. i really dig the music and love the little details they put in the animation. The puns are kinda split between awesome and 'ok, i get it, this is an 80s show' but i appreciate that they tried.

The Mumm-Ra joke was gold. I will brook no dissent.

I finally watched the rest of this and, like, I agree with Gaer that they should've just waited until the next part of the season was done and released the whole thing. I also agree with Purple's criticisms about "who this show is for," which I kind of picked up on just based on the first episode anyway, but that got even more pronounced as the show went on. It was pretty cool though! The actions scenes were cool and well-animated, and it did a whole heck of a lot to twist around your expectations of what a He-Man cartoon was going to do.

Wait, Netflix is releasing another, completely separate He-Man cartoon from this one, at around the same time of the year?? Uhhh, what?

Yeah, both were announced back around the same time. Guess they got the rights cheap and figured they both make a quick kids show (the Fortnite-esque one) and a Gen X/early Millennial nostalgia trip.

Finally caught up. I like it! One thing I didn’t remember until we started watching is that I never actually watched the original show and have no idea who any of these characters are! For some reason I thought I did. Anyway the show works fine for someone who knows nothing about it because the lore seems to be mostly nonsense anyway.

I love how much vitriol is being thrown at a three episode arc to flesh out the non-Adam characters before bringing Adam back. He’s still in it a whole lot, guys!

They just hate women. It’s always been that.

Well, yes. It’s just especially dumb here because it will be a comparatively short part of the mini-series.

On Evil-Lyn: She’s totally going to betray Skeletor. They’re not going to throw that development away. I’m guessing she’ll end up in a lawful neutral state where she’s not really a hero, but also done with being a lackey.

I would be sorely disappointed if that doesn't happen.

Yeah, I think Evil-Lyn is clear. I'm more interested in Beastman (who seems to have loyalty to Evil-Lyn specifically) and Tri-Klops (really curious, if he will fight Skeletor, or if he will give in easily). In any case, this is essentially a show about a time after, and Skeletor has no place in it, I think.

I wouldn’t be as annoyed/upset if this does happen, had they just put the whole season/series up at once. As it was, it was a total gut shot.

Oh my god, I'm so into this. Whatever else this has to offer, it looks soooo cool.

That said, I hope they offer more story than the trailer suggests, and that we still focus on Teela, and also do something interesting with Evil-Lyn. I would be kind of bummed, if we didn't.

And watched it. It has some (visually) really beautiful scenes, and, of course a lot of dumb and goofy.

Orko was great. Again, even if it was too short.

Evil-Lyn (or just Lyn now, I guess) got a nice end, I thought, but I would have loved to see a bit more. Just a bit of her new life.

The whole Sorceress and Champion setup asks some interesting questions. I mean, they are solved now, because...I, don't know.

I felt bad for Beastman. This show wasn't for to him, at all.

Also, the afterlife is destroyed now. Paradise, I mean. But I guess the Sorceress can rebuild it, maybe?

That last scene was really chilling. I guess they were hoping for another part?

I enjoyed it, but found the first part better and more interesting. Especially the middle of Part 2 felt a bit by-the-numbers, considering how much cool stuff they did in Part 1 with playing with expectations. Still, it ended well enough, I had a good time with it.

More thoughts later, I think. Still need to let it all sink in.

Oh, and Skeletors voice actor was great. I never heard that guy, only knew the show in the German version.

Wait, you never heard Mark Hamill? Or are you refering to the original run of He-Man? Because that was a very very different performance.
