I can’t believe the McMahon family would be involved in this kind of carny grade grifting.
My favorite thing about NFTs is that their ostensible function (of providing a cryptographically secure proof of purchase/ownership) can easily be accomplished using minuscule amounts of energy through cryptographic techniques that have been known for decades, rather than burning the planet at the altar of the blockchain.
As ever it appears that "the blockchain" is a solution in search of a problem.
I mean, cryptocurrency in general only exists because someone took an intro level course on monetary theory and thought that creating a new form of scarcity currency would somehow dethrone fiat currency. Blockchain theory and crypto algos were merely the ingredients used to create them.

Pretty sure a lot of them do, at least enough to find their own spin on the grift. One of the proposed use-cases for NFT assets in gaming is to have "ownership" of in-game items that you purchase from the publisher, so that you can resell to other people for real money. Yeah, that thing that MMOs ban you for? They want to legitimize it, probably by taking a fee out of every such transaction. Another proposed scenario is some sort of global gaming ecosystem where you buy an asset in one game, and you can take it to a whole different game and use it there, Wreck-It Ralph style. Nevermind that this is an utterly laughable idea that would require massive infrastructure and code development coordination between all studios that buy into it, it would basically homogenize the medium and turn it into goo.
This such a stupid, stupid time to be alive.
