We get it, you hate the trailer and think the movie is going to be bad. We hear you and validate your opinion. Satisfied now?

Just goofin on a movie I think looks bad. If that's legitimately upsetting to people I will stop.

I think it's not so much upsetting as nonsensical.

None of the criticisms seem to be even related to the movie except the color correction thing.

I can't imagine suggesting a movie from a major studio is definitely going to be bad because that studio has also released other bad movies by completely different and almost entirely unrelated creative teams. Just confusing!

This formulaic trailer isn't telling much that the movie will be good, but if it's bad it won't be because Zack Snyder has also directed movies for the same studio.

edit: Here's an example of a criticism that would make more sense if you want to work in a similarity to Batman v Superman. "Ugh, scored by Hans Zimmer? His brand of bland bombast is overrated! Not interested." I think this would come across as less of a reach. I could come up with more like this, if needed.

What's Shenmue?
I have a hard time imagining them going on to adapt the sequels
I think Dune Messiah might have a shot, if all goes well, since it's a good follow-up on the first's themes and acts as a good capstone to Paul's story (plus it can surely be done in one film, so it would make for a nice neat trilogy). But I can't imagine Children happening, let alone God Emperor.

God Emperor is where things definitely start getting weird, but why not Children?

Nothing against the story itself, just that it's difficult to imagine the film series being so successful that the studio is willing to produce a fourth (or even fifth— Children is about as long and dense as the original) one.

Found Lynch's Dune very interesting and gorgeous but kind of nasty and depressing. Diseased gay rapist villain getting his ass kicked by a virtuous family of noble straight people? I did read one thinkpiece saying the novels were a little less triumphalist about the heroic dynasty's... triumph. I'm sure this'll be less homophobic one way or another.

Trailer didn't do much for me and it's not because I find modern trailers boring... I love a trailer. Often appreciate trailercore songs. Subpar trailer here imo. I'm taking everyone's word that there's cause to be excited even though everything I've seen makes me feel a bit "...her?" I am sure people looking forward to it will like it and hope to as well.
My friend just texted me that House Harknonnen should be in Mortal Kombat 12 and I have to find some kind of way that more people can read that
Would love this though...

From what I remember from the books, Baron Vlad was written more as an incestuous pedophile than just a standard gay rapist, but I'm sure Herbert was just layering on the evil stereotypes at that point. The novels also have issues with portrayals of women, with the evil space witches and political marriages. No, it's not actually better to be a concubine than a wife! Just write up trade contracts if you want to increase your political power, you don't have to buy it with a young girl.

I read the first two book earlier this year and I wasn't crazy about them. But I could see how it could be adapted into a very entertaining movie and Villeneuve has my trust. I loved Blade Runner 2049 (and Arrival). Looks good to me.

The short version of this is that the ostensible good guys go on to kill 60 billion people.

Oops!

And as I recall, the first book suggests that the natives of Arrakis would've been able to make an important, lasting change to the planet's climate if Destined Hero From Far Away hadn't showed up and lead them on a destructive space jihad.

As a veteran of the trailer wars, I can say that it's a nice trailer but the proof is in the pudding. Might as well be a trailer for John Carter or a Star Wars prequel. Nice for the several minute package it is.

The water on arrakis project was within a few generations

I never thought of the Sisters as evil as maybe so obsessed with HOW to achieve their goal, that they maybe kinda forgot WHY.

Also I have never felt compelled to read anything past Dune itself. Felt satisfied with everything in the original novel.

It’s the right call. I’d rather see this in the theatres, and I’m not going this year. I wouldn’t have liked Blade Runner 2049 nearly as much if I didn’t see it on the big screen with that booming droning soundtrack.

I wonder! Regal's shutting down. Imagine others will follow. I mean, I don't doubt I'll someday get to see new blockbusters on a big screen, but I'm worried my local independent rep theater will close for good. It sucks!

Not to get too specific but I think my workplace has just totally distorted my perspective on risks and going to the movies just doesn't rank. At least there is a social norm there against talking. (let alone shouting) Haven't heard of any movie theater related outbreaks either. (maybe I should have!) At any rate, theaters need concessions and huge weekend numbers to operate, which they definitely won't get. I miss regularly being able to see movies alone on weekdays/at all. (pre-pandemic, v. common) Pandemic bad.

e: just checked, closest theater to me is dead. tmyk

What's Shenmue?
New trailer:

Still very much cut and edited in your typical "Hollywood tentpole film" style, but it shows off a lot more of the cast and some glimpses of the world. It looks great. I can't wait for this.

More seriously what I find really weird about this trailer is how much it looks like the original Lynch version. Like, that had a really unique original look to it that I appreciate, but it's weird to revisit that rather than try to work out what the book was really implying, or go in a new direction, or run with the visuals Jodorowsky was going to go with. Hell, he's still around isn't he? Let him just straight up do it. Can't use the kid he raised from birth to play Paul anymore, but otherwise?

Maybe it’s just the way this trailer is cut, but it looks as though they’re transferring some of Stilgar’s role in the story over to Chani. That would be smart filmmaking.

I still can't believe we finally have a Chani and a Paul who plausible look like they might be in their middle teens.
They're roughly the same age as the actors in Lynch's Dune when it was filmed. So either today's 20 somethings look younger than the 80s', or you're getting older

I actually watched lynch's dune a couple of weeks ago. I really liked it. It was far too dense at some points and Act 2 had so much going on I'm not sure I actually noticed anything happen. It was really fun though. I'm a little scared that this will be glossy and hollywoody to the point of being sterile, but I've never seen any of Villeneuve's work so I'll take everyone's word/faith
