Indie bundle for Palestinian Aid

I bought the last one, so sure, why not. At least IGN can't make this fundraiser mysteriously disappear...

Lately I've been using itch more and more, and the Bundle for Racial Justice was a big part why. I wonder if this is going to become a new tradition, and if so I welcome it (even if it means my backlog will be inherited by my grandchildren, but hey, it goes to charity).

BTW, this bundle is worth the price based on Mini Metro alone. There's a reason why I joke Ms. Brain's iPad is just a Mini Metro device. Brilliant game.

I'd kinda love it if people would share their recommendations here. I've started pulling out random things that look interesting, but there's a lot of noise to that signal. My enjoyment of last year's bundle was very much helped by recommendations.

I barely had to scroll down before I found a "I happily paid more for this one game than this entire bundle costs" pick with Glittermitten Grove.

The nifty thing about these collections is that you get games that cost five dollars or more on the Switch for practically nothing. I hemmed and hawed on Underhero for its standard retail price, but I think I can spare a half-cent on it.

I haven't actually played it, so this is a cautious recommendation, but the game I'm currently most interested in in the bundle is Long Gone Days, "a 2D modern-day antiwar RPG focused on language barriers". A while back I played Nanopesos, "a budget management simulator inspired by the low salaries and high living costs in Chile" by the same developer. That was pretty good.

This game piqued my interest.

It's a brick buster that doesn't require a spinner. Instead, you draw elastic bands to catch and ricochet the ball as it falls toward the bottom of the screen. I dig the novel input and the neon vector graphics. This guy might just get downloaded later; preferably on a touch device where it can be fully appreciated.

In my highly-organized method of "try things that look neat," I found Light Borrower, which is a clever little puzzle game of rotating tracks to make light shine in the right places, with a framing story in an "after the end" underground bunker. I spent an hour to get 34% completion and the first ending and will probably go back to try to complete puzzles I skipped.

Aw dang, this looks awesome and I was disappointed to find that it's only for Windows at the moment.

Super Win the Game is pretty fun. It's based on Zelda 2 - a metroidvania without a means to attack (I think), as a sidescroller.

I haven't played it, but A Good Snowman is hard to Build is often mentioned, when people ask for games, similar to Baba is You.

Becksworth

Aging Hipster Dragon Dad
Still 9 hours left on this. Looks like they added 200+ more titles. I saw Celeste is now included if you haven’t played that.

Speaking of Baba is You, that was also added.

Honestly, Baba Is You and Celeste are, if you like the genres, alone worth the 5 bucks. But it's too late now, anyway. Still, if you haven't played them, try them. They are really good.

Other games:

Pikuniku is a cute platformer with puzzle elements, and I think you can't die? Might be wrong about that. It's artstyle seems inspired by Loco Roco, and it's clearly a feel-good game.

Anodyne is a game, that's inspired by Links Awakening, in look and genre. I didn't like it that much, but I remember others liking it a lot. It's certainly not a bad game, and worth your time.

They Bleed Pixels is a pretty hard game - side-scroller, where you have to kill a lot of enemies, ideally by comboing. Dunno, it's hard to explain, and it's not my favourite, but it's definitely something to try out.

VVVVVV is a fun, hardcore platformer(?). The artstyle is very minimalistic. You die with every hit, and probably respawn very fast (haven't played it in a long time). The gimmick is, that you don't have a jump button, but you can reverse gravity. So, you basically jump from the floor to the ceiling, and back again. Or, more precisely, fall up or down.

Edit: Just found Pleasant Dreams: The Welcoming Play of Kirby's Dream Land, an ebook that talks about why Kirbys Dream Land, the GB one, is a great game. Have only read a few sentences yet, but there are around 90 pages - should be an interesting read.

Like with the bundle last year, someone made a list on itch.io of games they played, with a two or three short paragraphs about the game, and how they liked it. It's ordered by how many points the game got, with more points meaning the game is higher up in the list. I found the list from last year very useful, to find interesting things to try.

Here is the link.
