I've finally got my RG351V to where I want it. 351Elec is a big step up from stock (haven't got a feel for emulator improvements yet, but it's much snappier and more professional looking). I love this thing; it plays a lot of stuff and plays it well, but for best experience you have to faff. For example, the default reset command on the emulators is Start + Select, which is fine for most games, but means you can't save in Link's Awakening. Changing it to R3 and Start isn't hard, but you have to know how to do it.

My big bugbear is Screen Scraper. I've signed up for it, but it won't let me log in, so I can't use it. Until I do the menu's going to look pretty bare.

I got the Super Mario 64 port working on the RG351V. It has 1 major flaw: there is no camera control outside of the Mario Cam / Lakitu Cam toggle. Which is a shame, because it's higher res than the original and 60fps. Which makes a gigantic difference to the game, it's so much easier to control.

I've got my RG351V where I want it now and it's an incredible piece of kit. If the MiSTer is a high-end hi-fi then the RG351V is a really good MP3 player. It plays a lot of stuff really well with a nice screen and it's just a joy to use.

I'm on a SNES kick and completed Star Fox and am heading to the Wrecked Ship in Super Metroid. I also have a save just before my least favourite dungeon in Link's Awakening. I'm really glad I got it now.

Can you share exactly what you did? I mostly play my RG350, but I have a RG351P that I'd be happy to upgrade to if we could get around problems like the "Start+Select" to bring up main menus thing.

I put on 351Elec following this video and instructions:

I then changed the Start & Select thing by pulling up Retroarch while in a game (I think it's L3 and R3 on your model). From the “Quick Menu”, press B one to back out to the Main Menu. Move the cursor to the right to find the Settings menu, then scroll down to the Inputs section. Press A to enter the Inputs settings, then scroll down until you find the Hotkeys section, then press A again to enter these settings. For “Hotkey Enable”, set it to a different button (I chose the F button on mine so probably R3 would makes sense on yours), and for “Reset RetroArch”, set it to whatever you want (I stayed with the START button). Don't have L3 and R3 as reset, for obvious reasons. Back out with B and find the "Save configuration" bit and that's done.

I then turned the "Display Ports" option on in 351Elec and compiled Super Mario 64 for it. Sounds hard but it's really easy and I can walk you through it. I got Screenscraper working and scraped the data to it and I was pretty much done. There's some further tweaking, like changing the emulator for games like Star Fox but that is also pretty easy.

It's a faff but not hard, and the results are worth it.

If you're going to own one of these sorts of handhelds I can't recommend Retro Game Corps on YouTube enough.

MAME is an almighty pain in the arse to get working for the uninitiated but I worked it out on my RG351V and it's totally worth it. I adore this thing, it does a lot of things very well and it's a joy to use

I've been throughly bitten by the bug on this thing, I've been playing it steadily. So naturally now I want a more pocketable one. I'm trying to decide between the RG280V and the GKD Mini. The GKD Mini is more capable and has a better screen (and am actual TATE mode) but the RG280V is noticeably more portable and has Streets of Rage Remake

I have a atomic purple GBC I'm looking to get refurbished. Would any of you be willing to do so? Obviously I'm willing to pay. Or at least find out an amount I can save up.

did i do all of that?

Refurbished in what way? Backlight only? Because I'm down. PM me if you like!

So I bought an RG280V and it's a lovely little thing. As with the RG351V it's strongly recommend to update the firmware, as the performance difference is notable. The shoulder buttons work really well, but they are in a slightly uncomfortable place and I'd recommend not getting one of you only want to pay shoulder button heavy games on it.

Really decent emulation for everything up to PlayStation in such a pocket sized thing is magical.

My MemCard PRO arrived today. I'm extremely jazzed about... a memory card.

Well, no. I'm jazzed about a BIG ASS memory card that has neat features to go along with my XStation.

I want one of those big boy PS1 memory cards and I don't even have an XStation. I mean, I want one of those too, obviously...

What I love about it is that with the XStation it will just create a new memory card for each game automatically, no fuckin' around. I already copied my saves to separate cards so they'll be recognized. I need to double-check my PS3 to see what/how many PS1 saves I still have hanging around there.

That really is the coolest feature of those. If I had an XStation, I'd consider the MemCard Pro an absolute must.

I still haven't updated mine for stupid memory card reasons but I love the RG351V. After saying how much I hate achievements I've apparently got hooked on retro achievements so thanks for making me into a hypocrite, handheld console.
Supposedly with the latest release of 351Elec and ArkOS gives much better Dreamcast performance, but we're not quite there yet for that or the N64.

I've been on the fence about ordering one of these, but seeing it get a ringing endorsement here was enough to get me to take the plunge last night. Some more modern hardware with that grey brick form factor has been on my wish list for a hot minute now, and this is basically perfect! I got the wood grain one because bruh come on

I wouldn't mind getting a few details on this if you or anyone else is up for it, or have a good source handy. Would Retro Game Corps cover this?

If it's too much bullshit to even go into, I understand completely.

I'll happily talk you through it. It's mainly a case of get the right sets for the MAME you're running, as every time they update the sets the files get changed. Retro Game Corps has a great guide, as always. The best version of MAME to use won't work with the ROMs that come with the console won't work if I remember correctly.

I also recommend using some software to get rid of the ridiculous amount of duplicates that exist in any sets you may find, LaunchBox will do that for you.

Oh yeah, I worked out how to fix this too should it be of help to anybody

So, I'm thinking about getting one of these Eon Super 64's, but I can't find any information as to the aspect ratio it puts out - obviously I want 4:3, but my TV doesn't let me change to that aspect ratio when using the HDMI connections (it has regular A/V inputs and displays the N64 correctly there, but of course it looks awful). Anybody know if that will work, or will I have to wait for whenever the Ultra HDMI mods come back in stock and then risk bricking my N64 modding it to put out RGB? I mean, that's what I'd like to do even with the risk, but I have no idea when it'll come back in stock.

Otherwise, I'm planning on getting an Everdrive for the 64, and maybe later a wireless N64 pad. If anyone has recommendations on either of those fronts, I'd appreciate it, too.

Awesome! Thank you so much! Hopefully this will be enough info to work with.

I'm gonna try playing around with this after it gets here this Friday, assuming work doesn't zap me too hard.

In the process of formatting a spare microSD so I can install some nonfucky firmware on it as we speak.

Okay, so getting 351Elec running off my microSD has been a goddamn bastard so far, because I keep doing things that are Dumb and Wrong,

Things like trying to slap the image file straight onto my card, as opposed to using a flashing program like balenaEtcher to properly flash the image onto my card.

Things like thinking I can just format my card through Windows, when NOPE you're supposed to use specialized formatting software like SD Card Formatter, you dumb idiot animal fuck.

Things like maybe doing that second thing before you start bumblefucking around getting your image file properly installed on your card of choice, and maybe not wasting hours of your precious downtime getting this done.

If you already knew these things, gentle reader, I envy you.

Don't be like me.

Success! Got the install running finally, and loaded a few roms into the proper folder to test things out. So far so good!

Once I get back from work tomorrow, I'm gonna start cobblin' me together a library. 😎

Well do, because you managed to work it out in the end. While it'snot a hard process, it is unintuitive. Glad you got it working!
