Octopus Prime

Looks like the Black Panther sequel is going to be subtitled “Wakanda Forever”, and the Captain Marvel sequel is going to be called “Marvels”.

Which I feel pretty confident is not a reference to the Kurt Busiek comic

While it's most likely just a "Phase 4" thing, that shiny "4" towards the end has got to be a deliberate tease, now. All the clickbait media sites are going to blow up at it.

Their, loss, honestly. At this point in the franchise, I think they could afford to do a "person on the street" story that looks up at the goings on around them.

I don’t think they’re trying to be sneaky. It’s very clear that they’re going to make a Fantastic 4 movie.

That's actually the exact image they used when they announced Fantastic Four. While then it was more "yeah, we're making it.....someday", I think it's now "yeah we're making it......sooner".

My guess would be in addition to Rambeau, we might get Kamala, too.

That’s been confirmed
Not only that, but there were some set photos leaked earlier of Ms. Marvel in costume for her upcoming Disney+ series!

Loki has been moved up! Uh... two days? Alright.

I guess since Black Widow's coming out on a Friday in the middle of Loki's run, Disney/Marvel don't want to compete with themselves? Remains to be seen if Wednesday will continue to be the day for new Marvel D+ episodes.

also worth noting is that the origin of "Wednesday" is "(W)Odin's Day"

so, you know, Anthony Hopkins confirmed

I'm skeptical that this will able to recreate the magic of the first one, which felt like a happy accident, but I hope it's at least in the ballpark.

Octopus Prime

Looks like it’s leaning in more to being an intentional comedy than the first, which is usually cause for concern, but I have faith it’ll still be a fun time at the movies.

And it’s coming out on my birfday!

I was sold on "Ta-dah!"

But I was pre-ordered on "Hello Eddie, hello Venom."

The trailer definitely convinced me that their marketing department has done a survey of what people on social media like about the first Venom movie.

I'm just generally skeptical of making any assumptions (good or bad) about the actual content of a movie based on a trailer. They're still often fun to watch on their own merits, just not necessarily as an indicator of what the movie will be like.

The Patton Oswalt MODOK started airing.

Based on the first episode, it’s a kind of a cross between Venture Brothers and Better Off Ted. Just with Marvel characters.

I finally got around to the Venom trailer. I still don't get it. I legit think the first Venom is just a really bad movie. Baffling and often interesting, but also not good or actually fun to watch. That looks like more the same. Good for everyone who liked Venom, I guess.

Venom is incredibly good. But I feel like the reasons why it's good is because it's so earnest in trying to be this edgy, eXtreme, psychotic anti-hero thing. And that most of the comedy is unintentional. It's just like, pure 80s comics distilled into a weirdass movie. And I fear that the next film will be self-conscious and thus try too hard and miss the mark.

Octopus Prime

Partly that, but for me, more of it came from Tom Hardy decided, independently from everyone else, that the movie was a romantic comedy and only some of the cast was willing to play along with him.

Daikaiju

Salma Hayek as Ajak, the Eternals’ leader; Lia McHugh as the youthful-seeming Sprite; Richard Madden as Ikaris; Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos; Ma Dong-seok as Gilgamesh; Angelina Jolie as Thena; Gemma Chan as Sersi; Barry Keoghan as Druig; and Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo.

I shoukd6be more excited about I Can't Believe This Is Not Jack Kirby's Fourth World but I'm not feeling it. Maybe the pandemic mandated break has killed the inertia for me.

But then I wasn't interested in Sam and Bucky's World Tour and that was fun. I think it'll be a nice enough movie, but I won't be there on opening day.

It's... a nice teaser, it kinda sorta gives a little bit of info on who all these people are, but... hopefully the full trailer will give us a reason to be interested in them? A narrative conflict, a purpose to their existence, a justification why the adaptation of a comic that only existed as an excuse to give us Kirbytech splash pages has zero Kirby aesthetics in it...?

Yeah it looks pretty enough but as of right now I haven't the faintest clue who these people are or why I should care what they're up to.

As for me, they have quite an uphill battle to climb, because not only do I not really know who they are or why I should really care, but if they're really as powerful as Marvel keeps touting them to be, where the hell were they with regards to Thanos?! Did half of them die, or are they beyond the power of the stones? And no matter what the answer is, they certainly didn't seem to care about fixing the problem, they left it to humans to fix it, so they can piss off.

Marvel made Groot into a household name, and they made Iron Man into an A lister. I feel like they've earned a bit of trust when they introduce obscure comic characters.

What's the opposite of "An ant has no quarrel with a boot."?

If Marvel were to make a Kirby-esque film, then they'd have to start answering tough questions like "Who is Jack Kirby?" and "Why have you done so much to minimize the legacy and contribution of the individual whose work is the foundation of your entire media empire?"

Ha ha.. just kidding. MCU fans don't care about shit like that
