Games you want to play, that don't exist

I think we don't have this thread in TT 3.0, so I'll make it now.

While reading through Brickroads LP of FF IV, I saw (among a ton of other photoshoped pictures) the one where someone put a plant- and a fire-type Pokemon next to Kainazzo, in the fight against him. And now I really want a SNES-style FF, maybe even with a fixed-rotating team like in FF IV, where all the monsters and enemies are Pokemon. Still a new story, some mechanics to take advantage of the elemental weakness/strength stuf, but I would really like that. With a fitting story, please.

1.) An open world Batman game with the art style of the 1990s animated series.

2.) A new Rogue Squadron-style game. I'm not picky about what era of Star Wars it's set in.

3.) An action RPG based on Avatar: The Last Airbender or The Legend of Korra.

A standalone remake of that one GBA version of Mario Bros. that was in all the Super Mario Advance games (and Mario & Luigi) for the Nintendo Switch. Use the superior resolution to fit the entire play area onscreen, have local and online multiplayer, and tone down or remove the constant "Hey look at what the GBA can do" voice clips.

I feel like this idea is just floating around the general zeitgeist right now, but I want to see some sort of FF7 parody with cryptocurrency mines instead of (or in addition to) mako reactors.

Heavily customizable mech action-rpg where your pilot gains experience and you can buy/tweak/upgrade gear. Basically MS Saga meets Armored Core.

Sailor Moon as a Persona style RPG. Or any magical girl series, really. Even an original story. Just no sleaze, please.

What's Shenmue?
On 2.0, someone (I think it was Octo) suggested that Die Hard would work well as a metroidvania, and I haven't been able to stop thinking about it. As if John McClaine crawling around in the ventilation shafts and pilfering items from his enemies wasn't enough, the glass shards could be the equivalent to high-temperature rooms… with a pair of shoes standing in as the Varia Suit.

Another that's been foisted onto me is Etrian Picrodyssey. I am not entirely sure how this works— maybe something where the picross puzzles reveal part of a labyrinth map— but even so, it's too good a combination to not fixate on.

So is this thread for games that have never been made or would it also include games that the industry has gotten close to delivering on?

Would it have the original voice actors from the show?

If the game doesn't exist, it fits into this thread. This includes games that nearly got made, games that got made but weren't sold and games that have once existed but are now gone.

Basically, if you'd like to play a game, but think that there is no way of getting such a game, this is the thread for it. Ideally, someone tells you that, actually, there is such a game. And then, everyone will be happy.

Ideally, yes! The Rocksteady Arkham games were fun, and their voice acting was mostly quite good, but I found it really off-putting that most of the character designs were either steroidal slabs of muscle or creepy fetish objects. Using a cel-shaded style that looked like BTAS would have solved that problem very nicely.

Assuming the tone was also more at TAS levels instead of the whole "These games would've been M-rated before Arkham Knight if WB let us" deal I would also be interested in this.

I mean, it's a serious show, but still nowhere near as bleak and gruesome as the graphic novels and a lot of the modern comics. That's a big part of why I still like it decades later.

Oh, yeah, definitely. I should have said that explicitly.

More Wario games!

I always thought it would be cool to have an open-world Wario game that really put a focus on his superhuman strength. Something along the lines of the mid-2000s Incredible Hulk games, but with more environmental puzzles, especially ones involving lifting and throwing heavy objects.

I feel like a lot of what Wario can do would translate well to a 3D space. He could create makeshift platforms by slamming rocks and trees into the side of walls. I could see him using that crazy shoulder-button bull charge from WL 4 to travel around the environment quickly, possibly even running up vertical walls by approaching them at the right incline with enough momentum. Maybe he could slingshot himself over long distances by climbing a tree and bending it to the ground (kinda like those spring poles from Mario Odyssey and Bowser's Fury). Also, he should keep the piledriver and spinning swing moves from Wario World just 'cause.

Shit, I really want to play this now :(

I dunno how close it is to what you're looking for, but the Doom mod Treasure Tech is provides a taste of Wario Land 4 in 3D:

I was a big fan of Jump Ultimate Stars, a DS fighting game with Shonen Jump characters. They've made Jump fighting games since but the DS game was in the Smash Bros mode and that's a lot more appealing than the style they use for Jump Force and the Naruto games. So I want one like the one they made 15 years ago.

This got me thinking about the 1989 MechWarrior game. I would love a Mech game that was more RPG-style with some clunky non-twitchy combat instead of the FPS style of e.g. MechWarrior Online.

A Final Fantasy VIII prequel starring Laguna, Kiros and Ward. I first realized that I wanted this when FFX-2 was announced, and imagined it in that style, but the modern FFXV or FFVII Remake style would suit it even better.

How 'bout all them Xenogears sequels/prequels/interquels that never got made
I thought they wrote themselves into a corner with Xenogears, and Xenosaga was an extended reinterpretation, or something. Where the ideas from the prequels and sequels also was included, in some way?

The problem was that Xenogears was supposed to be part 5 in a series, but Square owns it, so when Namco let them make Xenosaga they had to not directly connect it, then Xenosaga was supposed to be seven games. But then episodes I and II of Xenosaga were intended to be just the first game, and episode III was a hyper-compressed version of *the other six*.

Sarge

A new Gargoyle's Quest. Also, I like to imagine what a 16-bit Bionic Commando would have looked like.

Oh! I forgot a couple!

4.) A remake of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. They don't even have to change very much: just the same game with redrawn, high resolution sprites would be great.

5.) A sequel to Arcanum, the steampunk RPG from the creators of Fallout. The game is set in your standard D&D style fantasy world, with elves and dwarves and wizards and so on, but one that's a few decades into an industrial revolution, which is throwing a wrench into everything. The up and coming power in amongst the traditional fantasy kingdoms is an industrial city state dominated by robber baron capitalists, and the elves are really angry that this city state is cutting down their forests. To make matters even more interesting, Arcanum assumes that magic works by weakening the laws of nature, while complex technology locally strengthens those laws, so there's a magic vs. technology divide that affects character builds. The first game had a lot of great ideas, but it was a little unpolished, and I'd love to see a more refined follow-up.

A JRPG in the vein of PS2 era mechanics / style and none of the protagonists are under the age of 25.

(One of the big reasons I liked SMT: Strange Journey is because everyone in the game is an adult, a demon, or both.)

I would do *so much* to get an Arcanum sequel. It deserves one, it's amazing, it's just... clunky. I'd kickstart just a remake that removes some of the jank, even.
